hi

Hi and welcome
2. Not me....
3. Molan, account for yourself, do you really have one of these!!!!
4. Now I'm really getting interested: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=569739
5. Great song and the very sound that is at the top of my list, hence my love of P Basses
6. You said you were looking for an upgrade so I would have thought that you really need to understand what you want from a bass and get the best one that suits your needs and not focus on colour. IF, however, the colour is the most important thing on your checklist why not get your current bass resprayed?
7.
We always turn up without any backline. Normally we've requested the promotor to supply a long list of specifics..... Easyjet's excess baggage charges prohibit taking backline with us.
When touring abroad we had always specified the backline requirements to the promoter and expected it to be there. That is very different from expecting other bands to provide the use of their equipment. Gigging in the UK I have always brought my own backline, mainly because I've played in bands with just one other guitarist and it is important that I get the sound I need to fill out the sound of the band. I have done a few gigs that, after turning up, I have been asked whether the other band's bassist can go through my rig and I have not been precious about it as I can get to my settings pretty much without thinking. On all these occassions it's not been because the other bass player did not bring his own equipment, but generally a request from the soundguy or the fact that the other bass player liked what he heard and wanted to 'try it out'. Amps and cabs (used sensibly) are so reliable nowdays that I don't think it an issue - for me anyway.
8. I'm amazed that this is still not sold.
9. Welcome.....and nose away
10. These come with a hefty price tag at £2299 yet I notice that two of the three that Mark had in at Bass Direct has sold already. Yamaha are claiming some form of wood treatment that I assume is some form of artificial aging and there is some innovation in the diagonal thru body stringing. However, they are also stating they have a new way of putting together a three piece body that resonates as well as a one piece, but for this price I would have thought a one piece piece of premium alder would be within scope in any event. As with all these things, the proof is in the playing and if these are 'great' sounding and playing basses then the price tag will justify itself. Has anyone got one or played one and are they 'great' basses?
11. These are excellent cabs and at an excellent price. Good luck with the sale.
12. That's a seriously nice 4001 Donny - don't do it!
13. Welcome aboard
14. I've always used compression since I got rid of my SVT head back in the 90's. I find most pedals do muddy the sound, although the EBS is pretty decent on the troband setting. My favourite compressor for bass is the DB160A which gives yoiu both compression and limiting, although the compressor built in the TC Electronics RH450 head is really nice. I also like a well designed valve compressor and can recommend the Summit TLA 50 and the built in compressor to the Markbass TA501.
15. It would be interesting to try one out but weighing in at 25lbs I don't think I would go there personally. Ever since I got my Eden WT400 plus back in '99 the days of lugging the heavy amps around has gone for me.
16.
Instrument leads aren't designed to carry anywhere near the current an amp head puts out, if it's a powerful head, it could melt the cable and completely bugger up the head. I think.
Worse, instrument cables (especially longer runs) will load the impedence and may well damage the amp.
17. Took the TC out agains last night and mated it with my Thumb bass. Seems like I'm getting the hang of this head with my active basses now. Definately not a plug in, line everything up flat and play amp if you want to get the best out of it.
18. Not a single cut person myself
19. But the Warwick is shiny...
20. Had a good gig although the venue was a little quiet - probably around 100. The manager came up and apologised afterwards stressing that everyone who turned up had a great time and he heard lot's of compliments about the band, which is something....i.e. for nthe manager to apologise for the lacl of audience and not blame it on the band!
21. I have heard lot's of great things about both the shop and the Manson brothers.
22. I've been eyeing up the CS '62 Jazz Bass with Brazilian 'board for a few months now..... http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars.asp
23. Bored reading this thread, guess I ought to get back to my bass now......
