1. Welcome
2. I purchased this exact bass from the Bass Centre back in '03. The woods are Claro Walnut, maple stringer with a Mahogany back. The neck has an ebony fretboard. If I could afford it I would take her back.......alas,
3. From your description of events Thomann did not accurately describe the goods. You choice will be to send the item back for a refund or decide to keep and repair it. You could try and get them to pay for the repair but typically large stores have a return only policy as it is too much hassle chasing after and assessing whether the cost of repair reasonable.
4.
At the risk of getting a lifetime ban from these forums I have to confess I use an old sock... Dont worry, it went to the laundry first!
Is there any tone difference before and after the wash?
5.
Thats a good deal. I paid £70 more than that...but saved a bit on other bits n pieces, incl the cabs.
I paid £879 for the amp/bag/pedal. But I still consider it a great buy which I've had a number of gigs from already
6. Hi
7. Hello and belated welcome
8. Welcome - better late than never!
9. Hi, welcome and enjoy your stay
10. Hi and welcome. You should also look out for a second hand BB614. The active eq is very powerful and this would help enomously dialing in a sound that will sit in a mix. I've seen then sell for £200 in great condition and well worth the extra.
11. I love my P Basses - on their own they sound OK but they just work in a band situation. I've been looking for that 'special' Jazz bass for ages but not got there yet. My Thumb Bass NT gives me the growl that I associate with a great jazz bass and also punches through the mix. But I still would like to find that 'special' jaxx bass......
12. This is ever so tempting.......
13.
It's the Classic version he has for sale, not the RH450. Great if you're "set and forget" without all the bells and whistles of the rh450 (tuner/presets/foot controller).
The sound of the amps are great, but it's the bells and whistles that elevate it above much of what's out there.
14. I think it is a combination of the quality of the design, craftmanship, materials, reputation and desirability. As others have said, they wouldn't sell otherwise. I reckon the last two probably put a 50% premium on their price but that is what happens to things that are both extremely good and highly desirable.
15. I certainly won't be complaining about some of the regulations that are imposed on venues.
16.
What if it's "the one" in April and not by October? You'll have lost three grand at least when you sell it.
If it called out to me I doubt if I would be selling it on. I still have the P Bass my dad got me in '75, the Stingray I got in '79 and the Warwick I got in '00. I've moved on a number of basses but not that many. Thing is, if I want it and can afford it, I would buy it. Would I buy a Gus, probably not but I haven't tried one so I would never dismiss buying one. The point I'm making is that often people criticise others for spending what they consider is a lot of money on something they wouldn't, or couldn't afford to. I look at the Gus and know that there is a lot of time put into making these instruments, and they are unique. I would think anyone buying one would be in it for the bass and not the investment potential. Not sure how you would value a second Gus as I've not seen/noticed any come onto the market. Got me thinking now......
17. Well, the roadworn series is Mexican and these are selling for 850!!! http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/Fender-Road-Worn-Bass
18. Thought I'd give this a little bump again, just in case
19.
Whether you think this is wrong or right is another debate/matter but the seller CAN'T leave the buyer negative feedback even if they wanted to! I personally think that if someone had lived close enough to go and verify what exactly this is, then it would have been fine for them to decide whether to bid or not. However, for someone to bid so high on something that is in doubt (cheap mind if it is what it 'could' be) shows recklessness or greed and they now have to make that decision as to what they do. I have to say that the seller gave all the warning signs in the listing that this probably isn't a pukka late 70's Jazz so I'm not sure that you can lay blame at their door, the seller is certainly guilty of being economical with the truth, enough to leave it ambiguous to draw in the unwary... though if anyone had read this thread in the lead up the end of the listing they'd hardly have been unaware of the potential for a big fat FAIL!
I agree. That's why I steered well clear of this auction myself.
20. It will sound totally oldschool and if that's the sound you are after (think Free) you will be onto a winner.
21. Played another gig with my RH450 running through my Bergantino HT112/EX112 cabs. The amp really sings with my P Basses, and at home with my Ricks. I still prefer my Mark Bass heads with my active basses (Thumb NT, Spectore NS4 and Avenger Clover 5). The one active bass I have which sounds better through the RH450 is my '79 Stingray. I will keep experimenting but I'm glad I have both options.
22. Kinda like a rebadged Status S2
