1.
I'm pretty sure the Bronco* and the Mustang are the only Official short scale basses from Fender, any others you see are put together abroad from other models. Some shops make a series of guitars they put together. Japan and places like that, this makes them rare and you might only see the odd one on eBay or something. They wont have serial codes. Stick to the officials if you ask me. Correct me if i'm wrong
Fender Musicmaster is short scale
2.
Gonna say it again, baring in mind you seemingly haven't played the bass that containt the pickup you're looking to replace, what elements of the original are you trying to improve upon in a gigging situation?. That will help to narrow down the field a bit! Si
+1 on this. I'm not sure that a quiet pick-up is an issue on any modern amp as this should be sorted by properly adjusting the input volume. It's the basic sound of the pick-up which would be the reason to make any change and it's only until you have tried the bass with stock pups are you going to know whether you need to change it, and why.
3. That sure is striking
4. Don't know about heaviest as I have always used 45 - 105 on my P Basses. I tend to go LaBella flats but also like Elixir Nanoweb strings. But there are so many brands and it comes down to what you like, both sound and feel.
5. Hey Charlie, good to have you on board
6. Got my Thumb NT back in '00 and she has seen plenty of action.
7.
What an awesome collection! Just missing a Gibbo... (ahtough I guess they pribably dont fit in with the rest!). I too love that finish on that Spector.
You know, I have my eye on a '60's EB3 - takes me back to the '73 Bowie gig that my brother took me to see when Trevor Bolder used one. In fact I was fortunate enough that my brother was well into music and took me to the most memorable gigs that shaped my life: Gig 1: My Mum and Dad booked a Valentines weekend coach trip to Paris and needed to offload the kids - it was 1970 and I was 9 at the time. My three sisters went to my aunts house and my brother got the short end of the straw and I was sent up to stay with him. He was at Leeds University at the time and had a room in a large 5 bedroom house with the living room and back rooms making bedrooms 6 and 7! Also in the house was Peter Hart who I think was one of the people on the entertainments committee that booked the bands. I remember everyone in the house going to help unload the equipment for the gig, which happened to be the The Who Gig 2: David Bowie at Hammersmith in 1973. My brother and his friend bought tickets to the Earls Court show which was cancelled. His friend couldn't make the new date so.....I remember this better as I was 13 by then Gig 3: Bob Marley at the Lyceum in '75. This was the gig that made me want to play bass. I found a band at school looking for a bass player, my dad got me the precision and I've never looked back
8. I'm still looking for that elusive jazz bass. Until then I will make do with.............. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=67103
9. Looks OK from the photo's. Have you played it, if it feels/sounds good then get it. Many 70's Musicman basses are heavy which is a no no for me. I picked up my Stingray in '79 and it weighs in a tad over 8.5lbs, which is light for a Stingray. Had from new and still love it:
10. Markbass make some real nice heads. The TA501 is simply superb. I have a few amps but my TA501 see's most action now days.
11. It's strange what some people do, and we will never know whetehr it was greed or some form of desparation that caused him to do this. Whatever the reason, a rip off merchant is one of the worse forms of life in my book - especially those that play of the decency of others.
12. Welcome
13. Hey back up to you from a southerner
14. I'm after that elusive Jazz Bass - cycled through a couple but none were 'the one'. I will keep looking.
15. Great for touring and travelling abroad, buit for general use they are a pain. I still have my flightcases from my touring days in the loft and they came in handy when I went to the 'states for three years in '05, si I'm glad I kept them.
16. I agree. The one's staright out of Woodstrock are amongst the finest craftmanship to be found anywhere.
17. I played an Eden WT400 traveller plus exclusively from 1999 to 2008, at one time doing three gigs a week. I bought it as I was fed up hawking my SVT around and, at the time, 15lbs for a genuine (i.e. loud) 400 watt amp was a revelation. It has a great sound with a lot of low end thump and never gave me any trouble - changed the preamp valve once and that's it. I still have the amp although in '08 I got a Markbass TA501 because the on board valve compressor is excellent. I have also picked up a TC Electronics RH450 recently, but I will never let the Eden go. IMHO the WT400 was the best sounding amp they ever made and reliability has been faultless - I'm gonna get the old girl out at the next gig now you've reminded me!
18. Yep, it's a hard market at the moment for sellers. I put my NS 4 up on this site last month as I wanted to get Stacker's 4001CS. It is immaculate and with an amazing buckeye burl top. Had it up for 2250 and not even an enquiry. Fortunately I got the 4001CS without having to sell my NS4 and I feel a lot better now I can keep it.

Phil Jones amps seem to be well suited to amplifying acoustic instruments. I had a pair of EA CXL112 Cabs and these are relly transparaent cabs.
20. Loud is good, I like loud..... Seriously though, the 400 - 500 watt amps with a couple of Berg 1x12's seem to have the headroom that I need and I have a lot of bottom end dialled in. At bigger gigs the only thing we mic up (apart from vocals) through the PA is the kick drum.
21. Welcome aboard
22.
GAK can be very slow. If you want to buy from them I suggest you call them up first and make sure they have a bass physically in stock.
+1 on this. I ordered a cab which they stated was in stock. I called to chase the order after a week and was told that the one in stock was their demo model and they were waiting for the new shipment which was due "any day now". Unfortunately, any day now was a long time coming so after two weeks I cancelled my order and went elsewhere.
23. My first set up back in '75 was a Dan Armstrong DAN4 amplifier (100 watts with graphic eq) which sat on top af an HH 2x15 cab. My forst bass was a '62 P Bass. Now, I use either a Markbass TA501 head or TC Electronics RH450 heads on top of Bergantino HT112/EX112 1x12 cabs. I also have a Markbass F500 and an Eden WT400 Traveller Plus which I got in '99 and I don't think I will ever part with. Still got the '62 P Bass and a bunch of other nice basses that I picked up on the way.
24. Very nice
