1. These are real nice cabs and for £550 the pair (or less?) a real bargain. I had the same set up and FWIW I actually prefered the slightly (4lbs I believe) heavier non neo version.
2. I agree the price it will sell will be around half the cost of the parts, maybe a little more. If it is as you say a real good bass I would keep it as you never know when you might want to go back to four string sometime in the future. It would be a shame to let a bass that you really like go for peanuts only to spend a lot more later on chasing the very thing you offloaded.
3. I've got a number of myguitar effects from Musictoyz: http://www.musictoyz.com/blog/ Great service every time.
4.
The Markbass CMD112p will take some beating in the size/vol stakes I played through one recently and all I can say is WOW !!! (I don't WOW easily)
I have one and it certainly handles rehearsals/small gigs with ease - would also be good for bigger gigs with an extension cab.
5. Most of it has been said.Tthe notable things that caused the bad reputation are weight ( a lot of mid/late 70's fenders are very heavy), design changes like the three bolt construction and the fact from 1973 they increased their production from around 40,000 instruments a year to around 150,000. You could figure that with such an increase quality control is likely to suffer, whether it's sourcing good/consistent quality woods to less attention in the build process. On the other hand, P basses from 1972 have a great reputation as they changed to a slimmer neck profile that year.
6. I'm a big Stingray fan - much prefer the two e.q. model though
7. If you are not on a budget go and try out the TC Electronics RH450 - you won't even need your Mig Muff anymore! Amazing lows, very loud and great flexibility.
8. I've got a little Markbass CMD112 combo - very small and light but a a very big and loud sound. It's my go to rehearsal amp and have used it at gigs on occassion and it more than holds it's own. Also use their TA501 and F500 heads for my main gigging set up coupled with a couple of Bergantino 112's - very clean, loud and bags of character from the TA501.
9. Gigged my RH450 and Berg HT112/EX112 and the sound was huge and really deep. Volume of the amp was louder than either my Markbass TA501 or F500. Also, seemed to go deeper than my Eden WT400 although I've not gigged this for a couple of years so mught haul this out for a side by side comparison.
10. Just got the Nash from Clarky. Great person to do business with - as cool as a penguin eating a popsicle.
11. I found a way to get the 4001CS without selling my beautiful NS4 - which means it is no longer for sale
12. The EBS multi comp is nice. But something like the DBX160A is so much better than any pedal. If you are looking at built in compressors you need to hear the TC Electronic RH450 as this is something else
13. My CMD112 is an ideal rehearsdal/small gig combo and reckon this would be the same
14.
Thanks As we both have mark bass heads, how does the RH450 compare power wise? I would not want anything less than what I get out of my littlemark, which is a decent volume and punch without pushing it This perhaps is my only concern with this head, don't want to buy then find I push it (like to keep the right side of 12 oclock) Any ideas, no its hard to say until its gigged
I have a Markbass F500 and TA501 and the RH450 is definately 'louder' and 'punchier' than both these amps.
15. Nothing to see here - no longer for sale, and boy am I glad as this would have been like the Alembic I sold - regretted that ever since, so not so my beautiful NS4.
16. Would be good to know what sort of music you are playing and the type of sound you are looking for - maybe by referencing some bands/bass players who's sound you like
17.
...and he's even wrong about that! Serial no. and tug bar suggest it's a '73.
Serial number puts it squarely in 1975: http://home.provide.net/~cfh/fender.html#serial
18. One other word springs to mind: WANT
19. I like the look of the NY604 cab - a little pricey but horn loaded
20.
Whos got that Sadowsky NYC P btw I want it!
I traded the NYC with Lee-Man
21.
Are the combos that bad? the one i played was sound. Got a CMD102p on the way
I can't get on with the piezo tweeter - drove me to distraction and on the CMD121 there's no attenuator to turn it down/off, which is why I disconnected it. I think my CMD121 is very nice and use it all the time at home and for rehearsals - but the TA501/Bergantino set up is in a totally different league soundwise
22. I wouldn't have thought so because the SA450 is physically larger than LMII. One other thing to consider is that the piezo loaded Markbass Cabs sound very 'spitty' to my ears - so much so that I have disconnect the piezo tweeter in my CMD121P. The sound is so much better but if you do want a more forward high frequency in your sound you would be better off going for the horn loaded 1x12 extension cab. If you want to stick with the ultra compact NY121 then try the combination first at volume to make sure you are happy with nature of the piezo tweeters. Taking 'homer's comment on board I would agree that although the ultra compact Markbass stuff is good (I have a CMD121P after all) you should also consider other options. I think their heads are so much better than their cabs and I have been using a Markbass TA501 head with Bergantino HT112 and EX112 cabs as my main gigging rig for a year now. Very easy to carry around and stunning sound.
23. It's arrived - but I won't get round to putting it through it's paces until the weekend
24. Difficult question to answer really as Markbass were at the forefront of switchmode power supplies being used and their vision certainly paid off giving them a great marketing tool that made people go out and try their amps. I reckon that the majority of people with one of their amps would not have purchased Markbass if they didn't sound good, but equally people with perfectly good amps are unlikely to have bought one to replace their current equipment if they didn't the weight benefit. It is likely that Markbass caused us bass players to spend more on equipment than we would have done had there not been this revolution with true good sounding lightweight gear. It's interesting to note that they have retained their reputation and status (and probably sales) when the competition has got a lot stiffer with Eden/EA/Ashdown/Genz Benz et al got into the game.
25. Read through as many of the pages as I could on the Talkbass thread(s) and the net result is that I have just ordered one from Mark at Bass Direct. Seems that I have an ever increasing bass amp collection to to go with my bass collection!
