Anyone for a Steinberger "replica" made from two Spectrums stuck back-to-back?! Edit for a PS: How do you get above A (14th fret, G string)? The C64 is kind of in the way!

Gotta say, I don't like any of those posted above For some reason, it's just not cool when EBMM do "funny stuff". I like the original iterations of the 'Ray (2 or 3 eq), 'Ray 5, Sterling and even the Bongo (4/5 HS and HH). But all this Reflux and Toasted Neck and Big Al stuff just misses the mark somehow. Don't really get all the HS and HH and "classic" versions of basses that were better just the way they were. Strangely, it seems entirely appropriate for Warwick to do what ever the hell they want to any bass they want, and it just seems ok. Like I said, I can't explain it!!

I like. But it needs a matching headstock (ie; white, not lefty!)

My day job is very physical. I do not want for strength in my hands at all. In fact, I struggle to achieve the required speed/deftness/lightness of touch in my right (dominant) hand. No issues with my fretting hand, mind.

Keep it simple. Find a dealer/shop with [i]plenty[/i] of basses you might like, and perhaps some you've never heard of. Some less than your budget, some within and some beyond. Play them ALL. Buy the one you liked the most, or at least work out if you can afford it and feel it's worth the (extra?) money.

FWIW my sweat makes brass/copper and "gold" hardware turn green. Phosphor Bronze strings turn black when exposed to my perspiration... Zero frets are the way to go, although they're not [i]exactly[/i] the same as they're often hardened to offset the increased wear that they experience. This is caused by the fact that the strings are always pressed against it, whatever note you're fretting.

Um.. Yes. Back on topic! I had a SD MMHB in my Iceni Zoot. That didn't rust/corrode at all. SOME polepieces seem to be machined rather than ground. Some of mine have borne concentric milling marks. I wonder, do some manufacturers coat/seal their polepieces to prevent corrosion? If not, why not?

Whilst it has nothing to do with look, I'd say that the sound that emanates from the instrument is the most important factor. Want cool? Buy a fridge.

Should work in some way or another. I used a Marshall footswitch with both a Trace AH300SMX and with an Ampeg SVP Pro, and it worked fine. Also a 1/4" TRS plug, BTW.

Fans. All rehearsal rooms should have at least 2 fans. And not the adoring groupie kind. One for the drummer, and one for the rest of the band. Just as good in the winter as in the summer. Better parking, storage, access and security will encourage bands to bring their own gear, so you may not need to invest so heavily in amps for the rooms. Naturally, you'll still need a drum kit and PA for each, though..

Does the polepiece material differ from model to model as well as the magnet material? My SR 5 had AlNiCo magnets and didn't rust at all. My Ibanez polepieces rusted like mad, so I reckon not all polepieces are created equal... Solution? Silver nail varnish ?

Not a great fan of either. Don't mind it. Suppose I could play it, but never had a reason or inclination to. Same goes for Jazz, too.
