1. Totally agree - A good drummer really improves my playing. I think there are a couple reasons for this; I want to do justice to his (they've all been male) talent. I feel more musical (if that makes sense), and therefore put more into my playing. The originals indie/prog trio I play in is blessed with a fantastic drummer, so I always enjoy playing in that band, whether it's a rehearsal or a gig. The guitarist/singer is also very talented, so playing with them has improved my playing dramatically. The covers band is a different matter altogether. That drummer played very simply with no emotion whatsoever, so it was difficult at times. As it happens, he left last week citing a need for a break, so we're looking for a replacement at the moment. Here's hoping we find a great drummer soon, who knows a shedload of 60's/70's/eighties tunes... Steve
  2. Newcastle upon Tyne Contact Phil @ Insangel Promotions - He's always on the lookout for new bands and deals with some decent venues like Durham Live (in Durham City), The Three Tuns and Pumphrey's Cellar Bar. Also 2 Far North, they promote nights at the Head of Steam and the O2 Academy in Newcastle as well as loads of other venues. Hope this helps, Steve
  3. You can't go wrong with a levy's strap - I've used them for a while with no issues. Steve
  4.
I've got a pre-Ernie Ball Music Man leather strap that I've had since 1981 and it's still going strong.
Priceless!!!
  5.
Long story short, I should be touring quite heavily with my old band who want me to join again. I need a nice budget bass I can take to Europe and possibly Canada that I dont have to worry about! Basically, which CV model screams 'awesome'?! I know they are both great, but which really nails it?! Im thinking Fiesta Red P as I love Fiesta Red!
PM me if you like, I have a fiesta red CV precision you can test drive, no probs. And I'm local. Steve
  6.
They look awesome, and they've got loads of comparison videos on the site that I'm looking forward to watching! I can't seem to find the prices though...
I checked out a few of the demos of the bases by Dave Marks. They sound absolutely gorgeous and look pretty tasty as well. I must say I had never heard of Frudua before. Although I knew of Dave Marks, I had never heard him play before either. He's some player - Very versatile... Stevie.
  7.
Thanks, I will give it a go. Reckon I will end up with the VM though as I'm looking for maple fretboard. You are right I really should check it out, I don't want to end up with a dud and ,although people have lots of praise for them, they cant possibly all be great for less that £300!
I have a Squier classic vibe 60's Precision (£280 new on line) and believe me it's superb. Can't fault it.. Steve
  8. Reading this thread I'm actually quite pleased that my MIJ 'Fender' Jazz Marcus Miller 4 is in fact a Tokai. Just goes to show things aren't always what they seem... Steve
  9. The BBC site is my homepage; I like to know what's going on in the world. BC is of course one of my tabs... StevieC
  10.
Thanks man! Any pics/sounclips of yours?
This is mine.. Not a great photo but there you are. It's also in my sig. Somebody in another Sandberg post said that they (i.e. Sandberg basses) tend to get lost in the mix. No so as far as I'm concerned. Steve
  11. Well done iam, Nice choice. I'm the proud owner of a Sandberg California MM and love it. It's the bubinga-faced 5-stringer and it has a lovely low-mid punch which sits nicely in the mix. Steviec

    Album Launch
Evenhand are on an album being released by the laboratory project, Pash our guitarist/singer is exec producer. The album launch is Oct 30 at FAC251 The Factory in Manchester. Other bands on the album (is this even the right word to use these days? ) are Drama King, Our Day Remains, Osiris, Fez and Helvelvn II. As a teaser to the launch a few of the bands are playing at PMT in Manchester (Salford) this Saturday throughout the day. I believe all are acoustic-ish sets. It kicks off around 1pm Sat and I think the idea is a band an hour, 20 min set. If anyone is interested come on down. If you want to get into the gig on the 30th PM me, I can get some tickets but need to know how many in advance.
Sorry, too far for me, but I checked out the Evenhand Myspace site and love your stuff. A massive variety of styles if I may so so! Cheers, Steve
  13.
I played one of these the other day, really nice bass, great neck. Half tempted to buy it. Are the original pups no good?
HI Stinson, The original pick ups are fine and to my ears sound like a precision should. There will no doubt be people who'll tell you that retro-fit pick ups sound tons better, but taken as an overall package, the CV is a great buy. Steve.
  14. Looking forward to tomorrow night's gig at a new venue for us. Had a blindin' rehearsal last night at Base HQ studios, and raring to go... Would be great to see some fellow basschatters down there from 9.00PM. StevieC
  15. 10CC were the first band I ever saw live, back in 1982ish. Went with my Dad to the City Hall, Newcastle. It was awesome.
  16. A 1993 German made Warwick Corvette 5 bubinga/wenge with Overwater active upgrade. Sold it when I was very skint...Aaaagh! Steve

    Delacroix Gigs
My new band in Newcastle are now ALMOST ready for our gigs. So far, we have 2 planned in, with one other pending. Firstly. we are support Boy Jumps Ship at the Newcastle 02 Academy (2nd band on I do believe) - 09/11/2010 - £5.00 I do believe. Secondly, we are playing my home town, Grimsby, at a venue called The Matrix - 04/12/2010 - Im guessing this will be no more than £3.00 on the door. More details when they get here. We have no demos, but they are being planned in for December, so you cant hear us until you see us. Id describe it as: Modern, fast (double time) melodic punk rock, with a few nice progressive technical parts to liven things up. Think A Wilhelm Scream crossed with Hot Water Music.
Hi Musicman20, Ignore PART of my PM - I should have read this first. Good luck with the new band - if you haven't played at the O2 yet, it's a great venue. I played there earlier this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Steve.
  18.
Im on this site quite alot as i love my gospel and soak up all i can get... just spotted this guy...its not his playing (which is great anyway) its his advice through the vid...especially at the end... i think this is relevant to most music, although maybe not in the same capacity... groove is central... http://www.gospelbasslines.com/ throughout this site if you look at the vids they are very informative......
Cheers, I could listen to that guy all day - Very nice feel and tastefull lines. Steve
  19.
+1! It looks great too
Hi - You are not wrong sir.
  20.
Need to get this sorted for a wedding very soon? Anyone got an accurate tab, tried the ones on the normal sites but struggling with them. One option may be a simplified version. Thanks
Hi all I can say is good luck. I bought Queen Greatest Hits 1 a while ago (after having it on vinyl years ago). Listening to the bass line on that track and some of the others like bicycle race, I realise how much of a talent John Deacon is. The lines are beautifully contructed and extremely well played. Proves you can get decent note definition with a P bass too! Steve
  21. No complaints from me - I play a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision and it's spot on for the money. Steve
  22.
Like buses these things - nothing for ages and then two come along at once! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-Bass-Guitar-B...=item19bf40caed
Have another look at the listing...'Never been to a gig' Poor thing, someone should take it and show the bass what it's been missing. Nice bass, would quite fancy one myself. StevieC
  23.
I currently own a CV Jazz 60's that I am very pleased with, however I would like to have a P bass as well. Would like a Fender, but finances don't allow. Does anyone own a CV P bass and if so what are your thoughts. God or bad.
Hi aceuggy, They're brill - Have a gander at these threads below (as an example) http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=101891 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=101162 Cheers, Steve
  24.
Nice bass. As i own a CV jazz i can relate to the comments about fit and finish. My CVJ is very well made and put together. Im tempted to get a CV P now but really not too keen on the colours. I do like the VM P though, especially with the maple neck. Steve, how doe the neck feel?
In a word - fast. I have a (70's-based) Jap Marcus Miller Jazz and it feels very similar. I'm no expert so I can't give any comparisons with other generic bass types but it's pretty narrow with a shallow C profile which makes for quick and easy movement. It also came set up very nicely with a low action; in fact lower than I have my Jazz and Sandberg Cali MM set up, but I played it last night in rehearsal like I'd played it for years. I'm aware that I've been gushing about the CV, but it's incredibly 'playable'. By the way it looks very pink in the top photo but it's much more red. Steve
