1. Hi folks, One of my favourite albums is 'Strange Kind of Love' by Scottish band Love and Money. Bobby Paterson is credited with the bass duties - if you get a chance to hear the album, take it - There are some great basslines on there (very funky) and it sounds superb. The bluesy lead guitar work is also awesome. Finally, the band split up not long after making that album - If anyone knows what Bobby's up to these days, I'd be interested to know. Cheers. Steve
 2. For what it's worth, here's my California MM 5 - I love it! Steve
 3.
it's personal opinion really, but i think my opinions on 'relic'd' basses is well voiced on here. Though i do want to try a sandberg out, one with mm pickups specifically.
Hi BB, I'm the proud owner of a Cali MM 5 string (bubinga top) and I absolutely love it. A very versatile instrument (tonally) and easy to play with reasonably narrow string spacing. If ever you're up in the North east, you're welcome to try her. Steve.
 4. This week I have mostly been learning... Bohemian Like You - Dandy Warhols Black and Gold - Sam Sparrow Long Train Running - Doobie Bros Don't Stop - Fleetwood Mac How Sweet it Is - Q Tips Yes, you guessed it - we have a wedding coming up. Steve
 5.
That being said, I am auditioning next week for the "Dad's band" at my daughter's school, which plays Rhythm and Blues covers.. Still, gonna stick with using your Warwick Streamer for that one, so should be quite an amusing look. (not been too tempted by the sunburst option tbh!) James
I had to laugh hard at that one - I formed a 'Dad's Band' after I suggested they might like some real music at the 2005 barbecue instead of the CDs they used to play. We've since played at local pubs, charidee dos and have a few weddings booked. ALL covers mind you (including the Beatles, natch) and we're having a great time. Nothing too serious - If we don't all like the song, it doesn't get learned or played. AND I play a sunburst Jazz and a natural Sandberg California MM so I fit the stereotype perfectly. Steve
 6.
Animal by Toto took me about a month to crack so I didn't get flack from the drummer. Found the best way was to just listen to it (without playing) about 30 times so it gets in your head.
+1 to that! I'm still wrestling with Animal. (so to speak) It's got some lovely bits of funk and jazz in it which are hard to follow. Definately one of those tunes that you have to break down into sections to learn properly. Finally, the guitar solo is blinding - one of my faves of all time, along with Extreme - Get the funk out and Another brick in the Wall - The Floyd Steve
 7. I'm in, but on holiday from 26th Feb so a bit limited as to the date. Steve
 8. Yes, but you may know that us Newcastle fans are hopeless optimists so we'll win the next one..LOL
 9. Welcome WHUFC, good to have you on board. A West Ham fan by any chance? Part time Newcastle fan myself... You'll find a brilliant community of bass fanatics on here, and answers to every question you will ever ask. (I'm not kidding) Some nice basses you had there - I used to play a Corvette 5 myself and wish I still had it! Anyway, have fun and make sure you log in regularly - there will always be something on here to entertain. Steve
 10.
Hey Stevie Is your Sandborg the one the GuitarGuitar had in for a while? Tried that one a few times and I really liked it. The Bubinga PM5 they have in sounds good as well but its a bit bling. WOT - meant to say I was on the same bill as the Caffs a few weeks ago at Durham Gala Theatre - shame you weren't on it or we could have hooked up. Regards John
Hi JD1, Aye, it's the same rig that was in GG. You and I must have the same tastes as also I tried the other Sandberg but went for the MM pickup combination in the end. Mind you, having listened to WoT's precisions, I'm not so sure now...Bling? Bring it on! You should see my Marcus Miller Jazz, with it's block markers, bound 'board etc. I also tried a 3-band Music Man in amber finish in GG at the same time - It sounded amazing but I didn't like the colour. (Shallow I know) Steve
 11.
Awesome lads, cheers for the vids, too. I really like the sound of the PJB. Top basschatting all round, and good to put a few faces to names. Christ on a bike BigAlOnBass is a huge chap!! Cheers ped
Ped, Cheers - It was an enjoyable night and the guys were great. Glad you like the sound of the pjb - I have to say the other two main rigs sounded better in the flesh (we are talking high-end gear after all). I gigged last night with the Sandberg and pjb rig and I got a great, articulate tone. It was one of those nights where I was playing fills that I can't normally manage in rehearsals! Steve
 12. To add my twopenneth, Cheers lads for an enjoyable few hours. I was great to meet you finally, and try some gear that I wouldn't normally be able to get my sweaty paws on. It all sounded great! Here's to the next (bigger) NEBB. Steve
 13.
No worries about arriving late but I do have to stress that kicking out time will have to be 21:00. I'll PM folks my Mobile number and the address/post code after the weekend then I can hit everybody with the same mail-shot rather than loads of random PMs
Mr. Hunt, Thanks for organising this. I'm looking forward to meeting the faces behind the posts. Steve
 14.
You've answered the question yourself - it was the SMX series. 12-band graphic EQ, dual compressor, UV light, variable valve/solid state input stage. Nice amp! Though, being a "350SMX" suggests it was earlier than a 1996 build, as by then the 350 was called the 400...
Thanks Merton, I kinda thought I was answering the question myself...but it was the series number I was wondering about and more specifically whether mine was regarded as a good 'un. The Bass Centre may well have had the amp lying around a while by time I bought it. It was a fab amp, and as I say, I sincerely wish I still owned it (and the Warwick Corvette bubinga/wenge 5 I played through it!) Steve
 15. I'll bring the lot as listed below. I'm looking forward to trying out some of that great gear and having a good natter. How far's the chippy? Steve
 16. Hi all, Can any Trace experts tell me what series my 1996 AH350SMX 12-band head was? It was built like the proverbial outhouse, with UV lighting and the older style dark grey vinyl covering. Weighed a flippin' tonne... The cooling fan started getting noisy and I couldn't get a replacement fan at the time. Ended up selling it and a matching 4 x 10 cab for silly (cheap) money. DOH! Wish I had it now.... Steve
 17.
Fab! It is TBC - I'll post here tomorrow morning to confirm one way or the other. That's what mine says, but she's usually watching Eastenders or summat at the time.....
Cheers. Mine's busy watching Bridget Jones on DVD at this very moment...'nuff said. Steve
 18. Hi, I'll turn up on 27th - It sounds like the community centre is still to be confirmed - is that the case? BTW - My other half's calling me a saddo. Let me know the score re a venue and I'll turn up with all my stuff (and the usual low level of talent - Don't let me use it all up as I have a gig the following night) Steve
 19.
Sounds like fun..
Yeah, I'd be up for a North East Bass Bash. Neil, you're welcome to try my Phil Jones Suitcase rig if you fancy widening the quest.
 20. I'm enjoying this thread, since I currenly own both a Fender Marcus Miller jazz 4 and a Sandberg MM5. Can't praise them both highly enough! Steve (Feeling smug)
 21.
We already do "I Want You Back" and "Disco Inferno" both go down a storm and great to play ( although I have to be honest and admit to playing them "in the spirit" of the songs rather than note for note ) More cheese required !!
You want cheese, my band does Disco inferno, Oh What a night (Late December back in '63) etc AND That's the Way I like it! They all keep the dance floor filled... All great songs for bass players, although I sometimes have a mental block about the starting run down on Disco Inferno. Steve
 22.
Glossed dark rosewood is about the darkest. Looks almost black in certain light. Some cocobolo finishes are quite dark as well. Here's RetroRon's new rosewood KingBass from Stati.com & my cocobolo SII... Rich.
Oh Mannnnn, I just love that SII - I've dreamt of owning one since I first started playing in the eighties. Steve
 23.
Well, that's a rather fun little ditty to play! (Just wanted to share that, 'cause I'm really chuffed at being able to play it! ) As you were.
Well done- that's a tricky old line to play - Growing up in the eighties, that was one of my favourite tunes and bass lines. Bedders came up with some excellent stuff. Steve
 24. Cheers Woodster, I might give them a call. Notice you play a Marcus Miller - What do you think of it? Steve
