2.
Lovely little basses these with a proper precision sound. I've recently loaned my 60s CV precision in blue to my best mate and I'm missing it already. He keeps offering to buy it but given I paid £190 for it what's the bloody point in selling?
Soloschenko, Never sell it!
  3.
Well done on a great choice of bass, colour and model. DV24/7 have always performed well with me in the past, I've just got a Tech 21 Sansamp VT Bass pedal from them yesterday and it arrived an hour ago. p.s.: I have the same squier as yours as you can see in the pic carousel in my signature line.
Nice. The CVs seem to be selling extremely well. Whoever in Squier who decided to make these beauties should be on a nice bonus. I absolutely love it. Steve.
  4.
I have severe gas for the blue one... aargghh!
Go for it, I've had a blast now i'm home and absolutely love it. Presumably a blue one one should sound just as good. Steve
  5.
Nice, but the rules are no pics, no bass
Hmm, OK I'll sort it out although my IT skills are limited. Steve
  6. Hi all, Ordered a Fiesta red Squier Classic Vibe 60's Precision on Monday, and it was delivered to the office today. Obviously I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet, but it's beautifully set up and in perfect condition. The finish is flawless, including fret ends. I owned a squier P as my first ever bass back in 1985, so it's nice to time travel, except that the quality of this new bass is so MUCH better than the oldie. They look even better in the flesh than in photos, and I can't wait to rehearse with it tonight. I used Digital Village (DV247.com) and have nothing but praise for them. Reviews on the net were very mixed, but I can't fault the service I've had. The price was also attractive being £100 cheaper than my local guitar shop. Iam one happy man. Steve.
  7. My first ever 'public' appearance was my mate Gareth and me playing to a bunch of kids in the street who'd gathered to hear our racket. I'd gone around to his house for a practice, and ended up playing 'Sultans of Swing' from a little balcony. I had a sunburst Squier Precision back then, played through the ubiquitous Carlsbro (Scorpion??) bass combo. The year was 1985, probably in the Summer hols. We went on to form a band called 'Headland', where our peak was playing the 'Riverside' in Newcastle a couple of years later. Steve
  8. Wedding function for our drummer, everyone up for it and dancing all night. The best gig our 5-piece function band have ever done (and with a dep drummer too!) PA and lights took ages to set up, and we only had five minutes to soundcheck but everything sounded great. Here's to the next one in Stirling in a couple of weeks. Steve.
  9.
Costello - Pump It Up Foo Fighters - Monkey wrench currently being worked on for a new line up
+1 to the Elvis Costello tune - What a bass line...! Steve
  10. Santana - Smooth Deacon Blue - Fergus Sings the Blues Two cracking songs, they'll hopefully go down well for the wedding coming up this Saturday.
  11.
Ive got a takmine "g series" 4 string electro accoustic 3 band EQ 4 string but Im Rochdale, lancashire. any use to you? how soon do you need it? W Oops should have been a pm!!
THanks anyway but Rochdale's a bit far to travel.
  12.
An acoustic does sound a lot more like what your after than elec with a combo,I have an Ozark 4 string and at least you can get the drumming noises and you can tap along like a drum etc to get a rhythm going that you cant get on an electric. You are welcome to lend mine too but as above Im midlands so probably too far away I guess?
Cheers, but you're a bit far to travel.
  13.
I dont have one unfortunately, but have you considered using an electric and a small combo? IME it should sit just as nicely in the mix as an electro acoustic (I think to really get a proper acoustic bass sound, you need a double bass!) with the right EQ
Cheers, that's what I'll do if there are no offers. I'd love to try a double bass sometime, but the transition will no doubt be a tricky one, having only messed around on my daughter's 3/4 size cello up till now. Steve
  14. Hi all, I'm North East England based - Anyone feeling generous to loan me their electro-acoustic 4 or 5 string for a one-off function my covers band are doing? We'll be without a drummer (for the first time) so it seems like the ideal opportunity to go acoustic as it were... Obviously I'll treat it like royalty, and supply something as security if you wish. Anyway, PM me if you can help - Cheers. Stevie C
  15.
Saw that a few people weren't so impressed with Stevie's performance at Glastonbury. Check out this cover of Chick Corea's Spain on his tour in London a year or so back. His band are so, so good... the Trumpet/Sax/Drums and guitar are out of this world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nL-KvRXiOyY and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-13YKaqiik...feature=related
Absolutely brilliant! I'm seriously looking for this to buy on DVD. Steve

    The Blockheads
Im lucky enough to be supporting The Blockheads next week at The Robin 2 in Wolverhampton. Thursday 8th April. Any BCer's planning to attend? I'll be near the bar enjoying The Blockheads after our support. The beauty is I would have been going to see them anyway. I think it's what's known as a "win win" situation.
Woah! I think that's what is known in the biz as a result... Well done I for one am rather jealous. Steve
  18.
A gig at an O2 Academy.. nice one!! These are great venues.. I wish I can play there at somepoint in the near future! Best of luck mate.
Hi Civictiger, Chris, our lead singer/guitarist is a persistent so-and-so who pestered one of the 02 guys in London. Apparently you have to register an interest in a support slot, then if you're lucky they'll give you a call to see if you're interested. Mama's Gun sound really good so it'll be a good gig I'm sure. I'll be battling nerves to make sure I savour the occasion. Back in 2000 I played the Metro Radio Arena here in Newcastle to about 5,000 people as part of a millennium event. I've just about forgotten the day as I was bricking it as you can probably imagine!! Steve
  19. Hi All, The Intervals (Vocal+guitar, drums + me on bass) are supporting London band Mama's Gun at the O2 Academy, Newcastle upon tyne on Monday 29th March 2010. We're a trio playing funk/rock originals and are REALLY looking forward to it. We'll be on about 8.00pm, and if you could make it along that would be great. www.myspace.com/theintervals Cheers for reading this. If you do come, please make yourself known to me. I'll be the one looking relieved that it's over Steve
  20. Hi Musicman, May I add to your dilemma a Sandberg California MM 5 Stringer. It's Jazz shaped, bubinga faced with two MM Humbuckers. Mine sounds great, is a joy to play and isn't too heavy. Should only cost you £1200-£1400 quid. Stacks of tonal variation in the 3-band controls as well. I'm local to you so PM if me if you fancy a bash. Steve
  21.
1. Being asked to provide a backline for all the other bands except the headliner on a 4 band bill, but your band are on first before anybody arrives.
+1. As it happens, the gig organiser has bumped us up from second on the bill to third as a 'sweetener'. Practically speaking, i'm glad my Phil Jones amp has two channels. Channel 1 is set up to my requirements, and channel 2 can be used by the other bassists, set as they want. As I say, I don't mind other bassists using my gear, but I can't imagine ever turning up for a gig without my amp in the hope that someone else has; a. Brought one. b. Is willing to let me use it.
  22. Afternoon All Excuse the rant but what's with bands who turn up without their own bass amps, guitar amps and drum kits??? We're playing another gig tomorrow night with three other bands. The promoter told us earlier this week asking if it would be OK if the two bands on before us could use our backline, as they didn't have any. As it goes, we don't mind, but how do these people practice or gig on their own? Is their own gear so bad that they daren't show it in public? Or is it that they just can't be bothered? Don't they care how they might sound? The last time we turned up for a gig, the band billed before us didn't even know if we would be bringing any gear with us. What did they think they were going to do? Lots of questions but here's to a good gig tomorrow night - with my very own gear!! End of Rant... StevieC
  23. Ian, I really appreciate the reply. You're doing something a lot of us on this site and in the wider bass playing world would love to be doing! The Never Forget show must have been good fun to do. Steve.
  24. Anyone heard the U2's The Edge playing his guitar solo on 'Party Girl'? - Its on Live Under a Blood Red Sky. Shocking series of bum notes to which Bono tries to joke by calling him a Guitar hero... Cheered me up no end as a beginner bass player back in the 1980s. Steve
  25.
Yes his user name is Kingbassist. Nice chap. Uses this place to offload bits of kit.
Cheers Crazykiwi - much appreciated. I'll look out for him. Steve
