Giving my newly refinished GBIV a workout @ the weekend..... Rock crowd pleasers with more challenging basslines
We did that, but it seemed to fall pretty flat with the crowd so we dropped it. 'No-one Knows' is quite fun to play.
Really surprised to hear that! Always gone down a storm in my experience -

Don't Stop Me Now? Superb JD line that's great fun to play & Definately fits the 'crowd pleaser' tag -
I second the J retro solution. There aren't many sounds you be unable to get with that. I have one in my Jazz. Costs £195 and will take you 15 mins to install.
+ 2 Have one installed in my RW jazz & it's the bizz!
I thought FM had most of the artistic input and control over the final arrangements.
Nope, it's fairly well documented in various interviews, biog's etc.....they were a full on working band of 4. The writer of the song (and as all four wrote this obviously applied to all of them) had the final say on arrangement, sound etc (including vocals). May & Mercury were responsible for the majority of output up until the 'Jazz' album of 78 when Taylor & Deacon started to contribute more (in a writing capacity) Again a truly unique band (in which the input of JD should not be underestimated) and the like of which we will probably never see again. I make no bones about being a massive fan and was lucky enough to see them live from the 'crazy' tour right up until the final show @ Knenworth in August 86 (the show @ the NEC in Sept 84 being a particular highlight)

Derailing the OT slightly but if you want an example of a great RT drum sound c. 2013 try this:) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=knjh9TrnLOw
And keys player as well. Electric piano on Your My Best Friend is JD. And he wrote it!
There's actually a funny story behind JD playing that electric piano part on that song. As you say he wrote the song and knew that was the piano sound he wanted. When he presented the idea to FM (who he assumed would play/record the part as the band's 'keys' player) FM told him 'if that's the sound you want then you play it because I'm not touching the fcuking thing!' Top, top player (& writer) btw and was an equally essential part of the bands success (& creative output) as the more 'celebrated' members (his playing on 'A Day At The Races' being particularly sublime)

How do you enter the stage..so to speak...at a gig?
pnefc42 replied to Jigster's topic in General Discussion
Enter Stage Right. Exit Stage Left. Simple as YYZ.
As long as you're not in a rush.............(I'll get me coat) -
To get the inline effect with the modern circuit, Bernie simply puts the pots on flying leads instead of soldering the posts direct to the PCB.
Yep, that's exactly what he did with mine (mine was built back when the circuits were different as you say, but I wanted the rumour circuit with the 'in line' layout
-
Not for me, gigged last night (home about 1am, bed by 1.45 after a cuppa!) Up this morning @ 9ish & out for a long (14mile) Sunday run by 9.30 - rest of the day doing the other 'Sunday' stuff (gardening, shopping etc) b4 work 2moro!
Gorgeuos daphne blue Spitfire. Is that a standard GB circuit? I don't see them with a stacked pot too often..
No it's a rumour circuit - when I ordered the build from Bernie I asked if he could put in the full rumour electronics but married to the 'in line' jazz style control layout as I think that looks better on the spitfires rather than the 'rumour' control layout. Of course being a custom builder, he said yes! (It does mean a stacked bass/mid pot though as the other 3 are pup pan, volume & treble)

A song you have always wanted to play live......
pnefc42 replied to Jazzneck's topic in General Discussion
"White Wedding" (Billy Idol) for me - no idea why I've never been able to sell this to rest of band
Weird isn't it, I get to play this tune practically every gig (actually played it last night)......great crowd pleaser though:) I've always wanted to play 'Don't stop me now' but never been in a band where the singer could do it justice (and I've been in a few!)
