1. Can't go wrong with Barefaced, my wee Midget handles a low A without any issues, not too expensive either.
2. Good to know they are that helpful if I ever have problems with mine. I have had good service from EBS too in the past, emailed them about the spec for the bulb that goes behind the valve in the Fafner and they sent me two new ones from Sweden for free.
3.

Yup, sitting up till the middle of the night to bid on weird basses pays off.
4. Can't afford it, sorry, but I can attest to the quality of these basses. Probably the most versatile and playable instruments I have come across. Whoever does buy this will not be disappointed.
5. Keep sharing them, it is those opinions that keep them niche and cheap for me
6. Keep and eye on ebay, 6 strings don't seem to go for anywhere near as much as their 4 and 5 string cousins. I got my 6 string Dingwall ABI on ebay a few years back, mint condition, for only slightly more than you are budgeting and they are over £2400 new!
7. That list looks like a slightly shorter version of the mod I linked, always good to see people agreeing about what changes to make.
8. I have a Boss CS-3 pedal lying around at the moment doing very little good since I find it sucks a lot of bass from the signal and can be a little hissy. I have heard good things about mods such as this one and I was wondering if anyone had tried it, or something similar, and had any advice. I was also wondering about the best place to get components and if anyone had advice on what to get or avoid. Capacitor wise are these any good for what I am needing? With the resistors should I be looking at carbon or metal film or does it not matter? Much appreciated. Dan
9. Damn you poverty *shakes fist*
10. Wizard Pickups are pretty damn good and not too expensive. Drop em an email explaining the kinda thing you are looking for and I am sure they can point you in the right direction or wind something to your needs.
11. Lovely looking bass, as I say go for it, I would never listen to drummers and singers for advice on instruments or aesthetics any how
12. Practice practice practice, obviously don't overstretch things to the point of pain but I have utter midget hands and I play a 6 string Dingwall with no major issues (37" low B!). Don't be afraid to use 4 fingers across three frets round about the first fret if you have to, for octave stuff round there I still find index and pinky easier than index and ring.
13. I love having a 6 string, as you say offers a lot more versatility, particularly if your singer is prone to switching keys for songs. Get the odd weird comments but most folk think it is pretty cool and some how makes me a better bassist (little do they know). That said I have just finished putting together a precision copy for one of my bands because 6 string really doesn't look right for folk punk. I would go for it though mate, what bass was it you where thinking of getting?

15. Terror Bass + Barefaced = Awesome I run a Terror Bass into a Barefaced midget and is such a tiny loud rig with a great flat sound. I agree about slightly using slightly lower gain tubes, makes the DI more useable and gives a wider range of warm valve sounds before it all gets too grindy
16. Just bought Thom's Stagg EDB, was unable to collect it in person but he was good enough to take it down to a gig whilst my mate was passing on tour. Seems a really nice guy and great to deal with.
17. These are actually pretty good basses for that price range, I had the Milestone IV for a while (P bass version). Should get a nice bass out of it.
18. Open to offer so if £70 seems to much drop me a message
19. I have a Rockcase RC10613B acoustic bass hard case, like this. Bought it and used it for one trip to London but no longer have a need for it because I broke the bass it was for (because I didn't use this case). Very good condition as it has lived the vast majority of its life in the corner of my living room, still have the key for it and everything. They are near as dammit £80 plus £10 p&p from Thomann, would like to make most of that back, does £70 incl p&p (or less if you can pick it up in Glasgow) tickle anyones fancy?
20. It isn't MDF, by the looks of it its cheap mahogany or similar (not an expert on woods but it is that style of grain). Might try gluing and clamping then adding splines as recommended in the "Guitar Player Repair Guide" but I don't hold out a lot of hope. Going to get a Stagg EDB to replace it anyhow since all this was ever meant to do was sound a bit double bassy.
21. Right, saving funds for a new bass. Swithering between a new acoustic or a cheap EUB since the one I broke was fretless and was always meant to sound double bassy. Might still try and fix the Harley Benton myself at some point, nothing to lose but time, and if that fails I am sure I can smash it for some super cliche band pics

23.
Id be tempted to either buy a new one, or use parts off that one to 'make' another (although Im guessing this might not be possible?!). What was the price when you bought it? Anything under about £150 and id just not bother.
They are bout £125, I actually didn't pay anything for it, swapped it for an old battered peavey cabinet I couldn't off load couple of years back, so doesn't owe me much. Thinking this might be the perfect excuse to buy a 5 string acoustic instead.
24. Came back from 2000 trees last week and I just opened my back to find the head has snapped off my acoustic bass! My own stupid fault for not taking the hard case but we couldn't quite squeeze it in the car with all the band gear and Glasgow to Gloucestershire is an uncomfortable enough journey as it is. Do you think the damage is fixable? Thinking about trying it myself with the help of repair books and a helpful tech in the engineering department at uni rather than paying too much since the bass is a cheap Thomann job and not worth a big repair bill.
