1. I was 16 in 1984 and my favourite bands/artists were Gary Numan/Tubeway Army, Big Country, Red Guitars, The Specials.
2. I usually take a spare bass and have it on a stand by my amp. It's quicker to change a bass than a string or a battery. I've never used public transport to get to a gig, so it just goes in the car/van along with everything else. When I play keys, I usually have two in my set up, so I'll be able to cover if one packs up.... although that's never happened...yet!
3.
The band I was in at the time supported you there a couple of times and somewhere else round there too once. Mark Pearson was in the year below me at school, is he still doing the Numanoid thing? Don't know if he would remember me, Julian Moss, from school, very short, long hair, then! Cheers.Jules
Would that be The Big Boat? Yes, Mark is still with the band.
4. They are out there. You just need to know where to look. Check out Electro 80s. They're very good Also...I play keyboards in a Gary Numan covers band, and we're approaching our 30th anniversary
5. White Squier Precision. Bought brand new from the Ealing Music Centre in December 1988. Didn't really get on with it soundwise and traded it in for a Tokai Jazz about 4 months later.
6. Not a Precision, not a Jazz, not a Mustang, not a Jaguar. Looks a little like the Bass V https://www.thomann....0707928_800.jpg https://www.thomann....nature_bass.htm
7. Heroes, Rebel Rebel, Boys Keep Swinging. And one cover - Sorrow
8. I'd like to say that Tony Butler and Louise Howard (Red Guitars) were influences, but unfortunately my playing is nothing like theirs, so they'll go down as inspirations. Paul Gardiner, Jamie Stewart and Simon Gallup are influences who have already been mentioned in this thread. I'd also include Rob Jones (The Bass Thing) from The Wonder Stuff, Nick Chown from The Bolshoi and Jackie Jackson from The Maytals.
9. I've definitely still got the following: Gary Numan - Warriors Tour - 1983 Red Guitars - America And Me - 1986 The Bolshoi - Three different ones from 1987 The Planet Wilson - 1988 They're all a very snug fit these days!
10. I know exactly where you're coming from Ad....
11. My old band used to state "timewasters welcome" in our Melody Maker ads
12. Mike Peters isn't singing with Big Country these days. Simon Hough is on vocals now. And Derek Forbes is playing bass for them.
13. I'm a big fan of music from the 80's, and I feel that there are too many lazy generalisations made about it. My favourite album, Gary Numan's Telekon, was released in 1980. Yes, it has lots of synths, but the main instruments are piano, bass and drums. Does it sound like a "typical 80s" album? (if there is such a thing) It took less than a minute to come up with this list of bands who released some great stuff between 1980 and 1989 , and I could make it a lot longer. The Specials Big Country Red Guitars The Cult The Beat Madness The Cure The Bolshoi Fun Boy Three The Wonder Stuff Jesus Jones The Skids The Bolshoi The Planet Wilson Japan Level 42
14. I'm recording that weekend, but will pop along if we finish early
15. I play keyboards and 2nd guitar in what is quite possibly the oldest Gary Numan covers/tribute band. (we formed in 1986)
16. I'm currently using a Behringer Eurolive B210D as a keyboard combo. It's light, loud and costs less than £150.00. One of my bands is a 7-piece with up to three guitars, and I have no trouble being heard. The treble and bass knobs work well, and it's the ideal monitor on bigger stages. Here it is in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTDm3XXvHuY http://www.behringer...ucts/B210D.aspx http://www.dv247.com...-speaker--71192
17. I bought mine brand new in 1995. It's been my No1 bass ever since. Plays great, sounds great. And mine has never had that problem with battery consumption.
