1. I was in this situation (sort of) when I joined one of my bands back in 2007. An album had been recorded, but not yet released. Babar Luck from King Prawn played bass on the album, but was never a band member (he's our singer/guitarist's brother) I made the decision not to copy the recorded basslines because Babar is a better bassist with a different style. The new album is all me.
2. We're the main support at Bristol, Cardiff and Manchester. Contact me if you want to come along, we've still a got a few concessions tickets left.
3. The promoter is a mate so I'll be showing my face. I'm playing a gig myself but we're on first, so I should be there before 9:00
4.
Would you say it's worth the extra money over a Squier Vintage Modified 70's jazz? The difference is about £70 in Norway.
It's all a matter of personal opinion. I considered the Squier, but I really wanted a Jazz width neck and twin humbuckers. I'm happy with the build quality and was happy to pay the extra.
5.
Looks great - how's the tone vs. a 'standard' J?
To my ears tonewise it's like a "standard" Jazz , but it's "bigger" It's a bit smoother, a bit rounder, but is capable of a bit more edge and bite when you wind the tone up or solo the pick-ups. Sorry for being so vague. As soon as I played it, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for.
6.
He's too busy playing it nicely.
A couple of quick snaps
7.
There was a sunburst Jazz in Wunjo's today. It played very nicely.
It played very nicely.... so I bought it. Pics to follow

9. I tried this bass last week, and I would have bought it if my boiler hadn't died the following morning. It's a lovely bass.
10. I don't care what they call it, a Jazz with twin humbuckers is what I want. I prefer Jazz necks to Precisions, which is why I never went for the Blacktop Precision. Coda Music are advertising the Jag at £336.00, the Tele at £400.00 and the Jazz at £400.00.
11. And a Jazz too... http://www.musicstore.com/en_EN/EUR/Basses/4-strings/Fender-Modern-Player-Jazz-Bass-RW-Olympic-White/art-BAS0005852-000
12.
I heard he played bass for zappa, am I wrong? anyways getting back to Clunes, I seem to remember his character in ITV's "William and Mary" had him as a Bass Player. he did guest with Gary Numan on one gig playing "cars", or so some bloke down the pub says. Steve Coogan once asked me if he could play my bass once ( he was "inspired" I said no )
The bloke down the pub was right, I was at the gig.
13. I tried one in Wunjos a couple of weeks ago. Very nice indeed (Candy Apple Red) I want one!
14. Ok, This is how I'm hearing it. I hope it makes sense as I'm doing it from memory. I was unsure about a couple of things, but Nalle from the band confirmed them for me. There are basically two sequences: A C#m7 D/F# Dm/F for the verses (the last line of each verse doesn't go to the Dm) D A D A D A E for the chourses (the E is held for a couple of bars at the end of the 2nd and 3rd choruses) The verse sequence is used again towards the end "Everyday is getting heavier and heavier" The outro A C#m7 D B D A
15. Nobody Told Me is one of the best songs I've heard in the last 20 years or so, and it's definitely in A. I've seen them 8 or 9 times since April and have been fortunate enough spend some time with them. Great band and great guys too. Rick Barrio Dill has a fantastic bass tone. He was using a Marcus Miller Jazz (run passive) through an Aguilar rig,but he's just got a Fender endorsement and is now using a very nice White Blonde Vintage 57 P-Bass (pics will follow when I get home) Vintage Trouble Vintage 57 They should be back in the UK next month. Definitely worth seeing.
16. Two instantly spring to mind : Duck Dunn Rick Barrio Dill (Vintage Trouble)
17. On the hip to (upper) thigh-high. Primarily because it looks better.
18. I went to see Booker T Jones last night. Not with the MG's but the band were impressive. Bassist Jeremy Curtis had some big shoes to fill and did so very well with a nice Precision/Ampeg set up. A really enjoyable gig, my personal highlight being the 7 minute version of Time Is Tight that closed the show. Not far behind was the following introduction... "This is a song we recorded in 1962 when I was 17 and a senior in high school. It's called Green Onions" I know what I was writing as a 17 year old and it wasn't Green Onions! Oh yeah.... They managed to slip a couple of verses of Mustang Sally into Chain Of Fools
19.
I just think his voice is really limited... good band, though. Modern soul? Flip knows who else is in the running... I'm so out of the loop. I do know that if he's one of the best, we're in trouble...
The voice of modern soul? Ty Taylor of Vintage Trouble! 20.
I saw them a couple of times in the late 70s, early 80s, twice with Chas Jankel and once with Wilko. They were a combination of a brilliant band and a compelling, edgy front man. You couldn't take your eyes off Dury. He always gave off a slightly scary, unpredictable "What's he going to do next?" vibe. Saw them again on his final tour, a few months before he died. He had to be helped on and off stage and spent the show leaning back against a large flight case. On one level it was desperately sad, as it was clear he didn't have long. One another it was life-affirming. There he was, this frail figure, ravaged by cancer, aware he was dying but still on stage, singing his heart out, refusing to give in and go quietly. There were a few tears in the audience I can tell you, along with roars of appreciation and affection. Cheers Graham
I was at the London Palladium for what was his last ever show in Feb 2000, and the atmosphere was exactly as you described it. The support act that night was Kirsty McColl...
21.
Never knew he was in The Blockheads til I watched this. How on earth that passed me by, I just do not know!
He introduces himself on the intro to "I Want To Be Straight"
