That's one of those Wesley thingymabobs. I think Jon picked up one of these (well, the four stringer) and was a bit underwhelmed.

Seems to be a bit of a recurring theme with the LG350. I think the jury's still out on exactly why they sound quiet - have you tried contacting Ashdown?

Just a quick update to this thread. It would seems Water Rats have changed their policy on booking bands - they now require the bands to pay upfront for 60 tickets at £3 each. Sod that...
....You express yourself pretty clearly here , why not write your own ad ? There's be other musicians down the next street in exactly the same position as you. I'm willing to bet too that there's loads of opportunities to join in with other players at colleges in your area without having to join the degree course.
+1 I don't know what Manchester is like but I regularly see ads for musicians who just want to jam on the London Gumtree. If you don't see any ads that fit the bill just put your own in. Edit: Like this ad.

Cheers for that. Looks like I can rule warwick out then.

I've been looking around for another gigbag and have been checking out the Warwick Rockbags. Some of these have the Warwick Guitar-Saving-System (with the Neck-Saving-System! ) and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this as the Warwick website isn't exactly forthcoming. Is it something beyond the usual padding (like a more rigid frame) or just the usual marketing speak? As I'd like something that offers a little more protection than the usual soft gigbag any info or recommendations for other makes at sensible prices will be gratefully received!

New all Valve Amplifiers- the current batch
Musky replied to orangepeelneil's topic in Amps and Cabs
back in my day it where all fields. know what you mean, but build quality must improve through the years, no? i could be very wrong....
There's no reason why build quality couldn't be as good, but unfortunately cost cutting comes into play. Quite simply, it's far cheaper to automate the build using pcb's rather than the hand wired vintage amps that were about. While older amps often used quality ceramic valve sockets solidly secured to the chassis, a lot of newer valve amps use cheaper sockets mounted directly on the pcb. There's a limited demand for very pricey valve amps built to high standards, especially when they are in competition with cheaper builds that sound as good but might not have the durability. The old Hiwatt and were infamously wired to military specs and were bullet proof - I'm not sure how even the current ones stand up to that. -
Bloody hell theres more than i realsied in this budget range. A good mate asked me to find him a Bass for that cash & i am looking to upgrade as well. simular budget but i always say set a budget & then stretch it to the best you can lol I am more looking for something with deep tone that i can then make nice & clanky (Fender Jazz sounding) for the funky bass lines, to be honest i'm more into what a bass sounds like than looks (Although there are exceptions). My mate on the other hand is looking for a easy Bass to play, so i guess a thin neck & light body. I'm not that fussed as long as i sounds nice & i wont be looking to change anytime soon then i would be happy Again people thanks for advice & pointers, it's really appreciated. I'll e-mail me mate see what he wants to do & start budgiting for my own purchase.
A fender Precision Lyte may well hit the spot for either of you.

Now there's a blast from the past. What's the odds that they're D.O.A.?

Use a tuner pedal?
Hhahahahah!!! £500 for a bolt-on neck, ply body!!! He's 'avin a larf........
He probably saw the one that sold for £560 the other week. edit: It's the same seller - obviously didn't go after all.
The cheapest Electros go for about £300 these days for the early one. Molan (Barrie) just sold one, but I think BigBeatNut has a five stringer he's been interested in shifting for a while.
You're kidding! I don't really have any interest in them but these were expensive basses when they came out. That's a hell of a drop in price and a bit of a bargain if they're your sort of thing.

Jon highlighted one of these a little while ago on the Rickenfaker thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...hine&st=700 Certainly the most convincing 'faker about at the moment.
Hiya lads, about 11 years ago, I saw a very odd bass in what was then known as A1 music in Manchester. It was a solid bodies Status bass guitar, but it had one F hole carved out of it. It had rubber coated strings, and just two knobs, volume, and tone. I have never seen one since, and it was really nice to play. They wanted £600 for it, as A1 was closing its doors, and everything had to go. I just wish I had bought it, as it made me sound like Herbie flowers. Do you chaps know what guitar I am talking about, and if yes, do you have any info/pics??
That would be the electro. There's some pics in the status thread in the Gear Porn Forum.
Hi. Forgive the stoopid question but...... am planning to get a 15" cab to go with my Peavey TB RAXX /Classic 120 head. The Peavey Classic 120 is a 120W mono valve power amp with 2, 4, 8 and 16 ohm outputs. Thought I would go for a Peavey cab (seems good value for money) but am wondering whether to get the 4 or 8 ohm version. Am assuming the 4 ohm option makes more sense as it will draw more watts from the amp. Am I right? Is this a good basis for my decision. Ta
Nope. Valve amps always put out the same wattage - that's what the output transformer does. You just need to match the transformer tap to the impedance of the cab as it it can be disastrous for the health of your amp if you don't. There might be other benefits to using a particular impedance (which maybe someone more qualified could comment on), but you won't get a higher wattage from it.

Academy of Sound had a new LH1000 on ebay which ended last night - 99p start. It sold for just £250 (which seems to have been the top bid by two people). You might have thought if there was really the demand for these it might have gone for a bit more.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that image isn't just about the clothes you wear. It might be an idea to video some rehearsals to get an idea of what you all look like from the audiences perspective. If the rehearsal room you use isn't that big you'll probably have to book yourselves into a bigger room - there are places that are mirrored but I've found it's a bit weird looking at yourself play in a mirror. It's well worth thinking about how you use the space on a larger stage as well.
Acoustic in an "Unusual " finish! ---- YUK. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/semi-acoustic-bass-g...1QQcmdZViewItem Will.
That one rings a bell - I'm sure that's been up before. It wouldn't surprise me if that goes for good money, seeing as how there are no production copies and the real thing would set you back a fortune.

For that kind of money you could have something custom made for you.
This seems to be another statement that is being used so often that it is blindly taken to be true. If this is true how has the whole world of rock has been choosing and buying amps like this for over 50 years without too much trouble? I have always made my judgements in the shop and I've never had a problem on a gig because I chose the wrong amp or cab. I'm never that lucky so the sound in the shop must have a bearing on the live sound! With some bands playing so much louder these days the shop vs live argument might be relevant, but if you aren't loud I don't see why shop vs live should be so out of step.
I don't think anyone is really suggesting that it's always the case, but it can be true sometimes. I've certainly found that my ideal sound when listening to the bass alone needs re-EQing to work in a band context.

The price hike on the LH500 is down to Hartke rather than Absolute - RRP up from £249 to £395, which obviously isn't just down to the drop in Sterling. You've got to wonder if Hartke haven't shot themselves in the foot in the current economic climate. I wonder if we'll see the RRP drop later in the year?

The brands mentioned in your thread about combos are good ones to keep an eye out for. The Ashdown Little Giant 350 can still be had for £200 new as well. As for cabs, there are several in the the for sale section that will fit within your budget - there's a tidy Ashdown lookalike available at a good price at the moment.
And here's another wonderful chance to spend £560 ... Yeah, I noticed that earlier today. A bit of searching reveals they still seem to be available for £250, though you might have to be quick.
Hartke LH-500 and this?
The LH500 seems to have had a huge increase in price recently. It might be available somewhere for the £200-odd you could get them at before, but mostly they seem to be going for £249+ now.
