1. A vote for #1 as well. Assuming we are talking Fenders here, it's worth bearing in mind that due to the 'parts bin' nature of the bass it might not have been made with parts from the same year. For instance I think it was in 1966 that Fender bought a huge amount of pots and they turned up on instruments for years after. And then of course it's impossible to verify if stuff like the original tuners have been replaced with period correct parts (and quite honestly I'm not really sure it would make any difference). So although #1 would be the strictly accurate answer, unless it had been owned since new how could anyone know that all the parts were factory fitted?
 2.
I have a spare 5-string set of La Bella Deep Talkin' Bass Strings 760FM if anyone is interested. That's B=0.128, E=0.109, A=0.089 , D=0.069, G= 0.049. They were the unused spare set for my Corvette fretless, and I kept them when I moved from the Corvette to a Yamaha. I fitted them to the Yamaha, didn't like the sound and took them off after about an hour. The Yamaha is a 35 inch scale bass, and the strings have been cut - about 4 inches beyond each tuner head - for 3+2 head, so you should have plenty of slack, unless you have a 4+1 head. £15 posted to any UK mainland address. David
You've got a PM.
 3. There are a few suggestions here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=35958

 5. There's usually dated inspection stickers on the PCBs if you fancy opening them up.
 6.
what does the expression pedal do? How much does the pedal cost as a stand alone item?
No idea I'm afraid - I've never used it with one.
 7. I've got one. They track well and make the usual kinds of synthy and squelchy sounds. Easy enough to use as well. Some people seem to prefer the Deep Impact, though that may or may not be connected with the fact that Chris Wolstenholme uses one - I've not tried one to compare.
 8. Too late to the party! Doesn't look like he was running it as a business either, so probably no chance of more being offered.
 9. First bass - a Kay precision copy ( KB-24) from 1980. Cost then was £70, which is £243 now. It played and sounded rubbish. Interestingly the new Precision I bought a year later cost me £250, which at £737 nowadays seems marginally cheaper than the cost you can get a USA P Bass now. The case for it cost £50 though - that's almost £150 now.
 10.
Yes folks - far better not to sign it just in case it isn't genuine. Incredible!!!  IMHO.
There have been plenty of cogent posts stating the truth of the matter: The law has been in force for 9 months. It doesn't make noise control compulsory. The 70 dB limit is nothing to do with this petition and is quite frankly a red herring. The only thing incredible is that people are still signing the thing. Now, I'm off to start a petition against the Government's proposal to limit pub opening hours to 8pm to 10pm...
 11. If I remember rightly from university, you can copy a chapter or article without any worries so long as it's just for you. My uni had to stop leaving reference copies of articles in the library for students to read. Having said that, they been doing it for years before anyone cottoned on.
 12. Has anyone else noticed that Grolsch washers seem to have changed over the years? I copped a load on a night out about 6 years ago and they seemed to be different - more plasticy than the rubbery (if that makes sense) type I'd grabbed years before. They don't seem to grip the strap button quite as well as the older ones. A case of the vintage ones being better?
 13.
Our band uses IAF as a cheap back-up when we can't get our preferred rehearsal place - Z1 Studios nr Camden (more expensive than IAF but bigger space and better amps)
Ah I know Zed One very well - I did the electrics for the place. It's very nice in there and quite competitive on price but I didn't mention it because the OP was looking for something as cheap as possible.
 14. That really is great service, especially as they seemed busy preparing for NAMM. A good job all round.
 15.
I thought the whole thing was just to do with protection of staff, just like the whole no smoking thing. The way most places got around this was just to supply ear plugs free of charge. The only places I've ever played with a limiter are older and more respectable buildings. If it was brought in as law then surely all gigs would become a thing of the past???
+1
 16.
theres not even 600 signatures on it yet! If it doesn't get to atleast 5000 very minimum they won't even look at it! -Jake
That figure is up about 50% on the number of signatures it had when the thread started. A month ago (after it had been up for 11 months) it had less than 50. As Bremen points out, the person who originally posted the petition has got his facts completely wrong and was petitioning against legislation that had been enacted two years previously. The simple fact is that noise limiters are far more likely to be in place because of local government stipulations in the venue's license. So people would be far better off writing to the council of affected venues rather than getting hot under the collar about an act that does NOT make limiters compulsory.
 17.
No it's real check my link in my post above.
Oh it's real alright. In case any missed the point of my previous post I'll make it simple - This petition was submitted in January 2008. It refers to the Noise Control legislation that was enacted in 2005, and came into force for music venues in April 2008. We've been living with this evil, pernicious legislation for the last 9 months. Edit: Sorry if that sounds a bit patronising...
 18. OK, I've just ordered petitions on the website by 'date submitted': this one comes in at around 4693 out of 4807. Petitions can stay on the site for up to one year, and this one ends on 23rd January. Let's see if we can guess the date when this was first submitted?
 19.
Okay, I've found an article from November 2008 which vaguely fits what the OP described, and it may be the article that he was referring to. Sound Limiters...... Who knows the laws surrounding them, and what you can do to beat them! Key quote: S.P.
I've done a search and all I can come up with are the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, which that article seems to refer to. It came into effect in April 2008 for entertainment venues. I wonder if someone somewhere along the line is getting a bit confused?
 20.
I'm a bit dubious about a front firing 4x10" with such a high SPL. If its correct them put me down for 2. +1 on the dull black box - my Schroeder 1212L has the blue rhino finish.
Yeah - I noted the specs on the 1x15 as 102dB -3dB at 45Hz & 15kHz. Besides the fact that giving an SPL at just two frequencies is pretty pointless, I'm highly dubious that it can achieve that kind of volume at 45hz anyway.
 21.
Yea some of those old Peaveys are cool. There was a keyboard amplifier at the practice studio which sounded great with bass. Must have cost about a tenner, too!
Peavey in general I think. I'd always had it in mind that they were cheap tat to be avoided until I tried a TNT combo at a rehearsal room and was pleasantly surprised. By no means the best gear available, but fantastic for the money.
 22.
So then...... emailed the seller, who advises that eBay removed the listing with an hour to go, because he had described the bass as being in 'as new' condition, yet had selected 'used' in the drop down menu to describe the status.
WTF That really takes the biscuit. I don't think anyone with even a basic grasp of the English language would be in any danger of being confused by that. Ebay just seems to make up the rules as it goes along.
 23.
Just a random observation / whinge... Why are cab builders so intent to make anonymous black boxes? Surely a little flair won't hurt...
It's not anonymous black boxes that piss me off. It's anonymous grey carpet covered ones...
 24.
I'd like to know if anyone else reports that the volume is somewhat lacking...
I'm wondering if that's something like the Warwick, where it seems like you have to disregard the clip light on the input.
 25. My first thought on this was 'great idea!' But it does rather split things up a bit. There are plenty of threads from beginners that are of plenty of use to more experienced players, especially when you get people asking about some of the more expensive equipment out there, or stuff like "I'm new to effects - what's the best distortion to get?' Even technique questions often throw up interesting threads. I know there's quite a bit of replication of threads at the moment, but might not another forum give rise to the opportunity for more of this? And then there are the people who have been playing for years but have a question that others might think is quite basic (I'm sure we've all been there ) I feel that if there is a dedicated forum it might have to be quite focussed to be useful beyond what is already covered. Maybe a beefed up wiki or a forum of archived 'useful threads' might be a better answer.
