For a slightly shorter scale (32") Aria CSB380 the fretboard to the inside of the nut is 603mm and a further 190mm to the end of the headstock. I note you say "the smaller Fender scale" - I don't know exactly which Ibanez you've got but it's likely the same scale as the Fender (34"). Like Happy Jack says, scale and neck lengths are different things. Scale length is the distance from the bridge to the nut and is most often 34". <Quick edit for noob-like mistake :blush: >

Another common complaint is about their habit of putting two separate bills on in a night - the first having a habit of over-running and screwing up bands, punters and promoters on the second bill alike. I decided I wouldn't be playing there a long time ago.

The keyboard player in my band is first and foremost a bass player, and whenever he picks up my bass at rehearsals it always sounds totally different to when I play it, even with exactly the same settings.

I'm sure umpteen million of these things were turned out and it wouldn't surprise me if Fender used different suppliers for screws. So even if there was a way of identifying an early seventies screw there would be no way of knowing if it had ever been near the Fender factory. I'm sure there's something in what Chris says though. I originally clicked on the listing because it said Fender parts, not a solitary screw.

I posted about this guy in the overpriced listings thread, but it seems that his first attempt has been cancelled. I might just list a screw from my '74 P bass at a bit below his asking price, just to wind him up.

Actually that's not far off what I've read in an interview with a Fender employee. She said that Fender went through a number of different ways of stamping their parts, apparently in quick succession. Unsurprisingly this led to some confusion on the shop floor, and could vary from shift to shift. That was the gist as I remember it - stupidly I didn't bookmark the page. -

The way it's usually done with a band all recording in the same room is to use baffles around the amps and drums - you do get some spill like this but it's all pretty manageable. The only problem for you is that most rehearsal studios don't have baffles laying around. Though thinking about it, Zed One studios in Camden don't use their recording facility at weekends so if feasible they might allow the use of their baffles if you book a rehearsal there. In fact they use the recording studio for rehearsals then, so if you booked that room there'd be a drum booth - obviously you'd have to check with them first whether it would be ok, but I'm sure something could be arranged. Like the Funk says, you can get very good results with just stereo mikes (I've used PZM's with execellent results) but you'll need a decent sounding room to start with.

James[/quote] That's not really a problem when recording - the idea is to capture the sound of the instruments on different tracks and mix them to your taste rather than the sound in the room. My band has done this (powerbook/cubase/fostex usb mixer). The Fostex could only handle two tracks at a time so we ended up putting the drums down with the rest of the band playing as quietly as possible and overdubbing the rest of the instruments. There was just enough spill on the drum tracks to use as a guide without screwing up the mix. Not my favourite way of working, but it did the trick. Edit: Just checked and it was actually a Tascam 428, not that it makes any difference really.

I've played the Windmill a few times. It uses out of house as well as in-house promoters so obviously the billing can vary, but whenever I've played there it's been reasonably well matched. I'm struggling to remember what they used for backline which kind of suggests it didn't blow me away. The PA/engineer is ok out front, but last time I played there the monitor mix wasn't brilliant - probably because we didn't get a soundcheck. Vibe is good IMHO - it's a smallish venue, and being long and narrow encourages punters to the front if they want to see you. The Windmill has a reasonable reputation as a venue, with some decent small bands with a bit of a buzz playing there - enough to encourage people into the wilds of Brixton anyway. But like any venue in London there is no walk up crowd (well next to none anyway) - it's the bands that pull in the crowd, not the venue. As for tricks to get industry people down there, they are the same as pulling in punters. Realistically, you're not going to get any industry types there unless they've heard of you and think you sound interesting.

No, it should be fine as long as it's been stored somewhere dry. Like I said, I've got a Laney DP300 which is older and it hasn't missed a beat since I got it. I loaned it to a mate for a while when he started up a rehearsal studio and it came through unscathed, so reliability wasn't an issue with that particular model. Soundwise the DP300 is naturally clean sounding - certainly not a great amp but not crap either. How the G300 compares I wouldn't know.
