I think it will depend on the size of your cab. You could download WinISD and see how the figures stack up.
Well, the exact text of the ad is this: And I'm struggling to see anything I'd describe as "clever" there - is it just too sophisticated for my walnut of a brain? J
I think it's my walnut sized brain Jon. I thought I remembered it as having the 'brand new' bit at the end. -
Small cheap and cheerfull bass amp for college.

Small, cheap and decent? My first thoughts were Peavey as well... -

Hohner Professional Steinberger Copy Bass
Musky replied to yorks5stringer's topic in Repairs and Technical
You cab still get the EMG Select passive pickups for these things if thats what you want to do. Or rather you can still get EMG humbuckers, but whether they are actually identical to the ones in the B2 I wouldn't know.
"Brand new", too. DeLorean? As far as Columbuses go, this less-plywood, maple boarded & less expensive example looks much better: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=130281767884 It's not new, though. J.
I'm not sure if that ad was just badly writen or very cleverly worded. I think he's talking about the case being brand new. -
I agree but I think with all the sigs on Fenders books, there should be a JJ model.
Just a thought, but has Fender ever made a signature bass for someone who no longer uses them (apart from the ones that died)? I'm not sure what Geddy Lee currently uses...
I don't just mean vintage ones, i mean brand new ones, to me a brand new USA jazz is just another passive jazz bass like the rest.... And i always wondered what NOS meant, now i know.
In that case, welcome to the world of brand snobbery.
I had the pleasure of playing a JV Jazz around 5 years ago (wasn't mine though) and it was sublime. I'm not 100% sure of the full story, but I believe that the JV series were being produced at a point in time when Fender USA weren't producing anything, hence the Japanese guys really went all out to show the world that they could match their USA counterparts. More gen'd up fellows on here may correct me as I heard this story a while ago, and it may have vital details missing, but I do know that the JV series guitars and basses are revered by top players, and again, the one I played was superb. PS, sorry to kind of move off the price subject guys.
Fender USA didn't stop production until the move to Corona in '86. Actually, strictly speaking they didn't stop production at all as a handful were still being turned out during the move. Fuji Gen didn't really have to go all out to show what they were capable of as they'd been doing that for years - many of the parts that turned up on JV's were in fact identical to those fitted on their Fender copies, so Fender were in fact just one of many companies using their services. I'm a little dubious about the 'Fender US parts' story (or at least in as far as that Fuji Gen did little more than just assemble the things) as real evidence seems to be negligible other than the use of US pickups. Unless anyone would like to clue me up.
Weird really in the states you get the impression peavey are the working bass players amp of choice. Must admit the late 80's early 90's torquise lettered front's look nasty
I think being US manufactured for years helped them on the other side of the pond - there seems to be more pride in domestically made products over there. And before Far East manufacture became the norm they would have been more competitive than any overseas gear. I've never owned a Peavey amp, though I had a MegaBox for a while. They're decent amps (even if they do weigh a ton ) but have probably suffered image-wise due to not having a high end bass amp that has taken off in the way the 5150 guitar amp did.
They still manage to give some excellent gera away tho.
Though of course they don't give the gear away - the distributors do. They pay for the competition as much as if they'd paid for a more obvious advert - in fact if I remember rightly it advertisers usually pay more for a competition page than they would if they took out a standard one page advertisement. I don't trust the reviews in mags any more, ever since I realised that Bassist never gave anything a bad review. You always had to read between the lines and spot when the superlative count was down. The only one I gave credence to was the Guitar Magazine. I still remember that Marshall acknowledged the Guitar Mag's opinion that the then new AVT range's speakers weren't up to the job as correct (and upgraded them), whilst Guitarist was slinging around ridiculous superlatives like 'perfect', 'greatest SS amp ever' and 'indistinguishable from all valve'. Quite honestly I value the opinion of the good burgers of basschat over any magazine anyday.
mmm ... I think I'll pass on that ... if there are no willing collector type buyers out there when I list, somebody will get it for £20 or something silly. Would work for things that are being sold all the time (pedals, strings, 3-10 yr old fenders etc).
In my experience the converse is true. I find that with things that are common there are plenty of them out there (obviously!) and multiple auction going on at the same time. On the other hand there are plenty of people looking for things that are aren't so common that have set up searches to look for keywords. I've made the mistake more than once of bidding higher than was really sensible on items that I'd spotted when they were cheap as chips.

The Eastwood Classic and the DiPinto Belvedere Deluxe might hit the spot, as well as the Italia Mondial, Torino and Rimini. Depends on how bright you want them.

Yeah, 4005's go for silly money really. I've never been that sure why - rarity presumably.

I can't help to too much I'm afraid - I could never really get along with the foot tapping thing either. Though really I don't think it's that important as I just kind of feel the beat, which it sounds like you are too if you're consistently hitting the one. And of course in band situation a rigid metronome-like approach won't be as useful as listening to the drummer. Unless he's all over the place. What was the link incidentally? I seem to have missed that thread.

I think I'd leave it until after pay day - January seems a quiet month for business all round IMO.
Can you point me to a thread about god etc? After being on TB for about 4 years i really haven't seen any of this. Quite interested to though. Cheers.
Threads on religion are banned on TB, hence why you'll only see references in signatures. No idea when they banned it, but there maybe old threads in the archives. They banned discussions on they country of origin of gear a couple of years ago as well (I think it was around the time Ampeg outsourced their manufacture to the Far East).

Thought I'd bump this thread because I've just come across an ad for a studio in Kilburn. Can't recommend it because I've not used it, but it seems cheap enough for those on a budget.
Hello! I'm new here, just checking things out. This forum seems to have a lot of potential! I've been following TB a few years, so I thought I'd share. I use TB primarily as a resource for gear, theory, technique, and recording and I must admit I've learned a lot. It isn't perfect, but I think that it's a great forum given its size. After all, it is mostly bass related and it's full of bass loving folks - how can that be a bad thing?? Most bassists are laid back anyway IME. It is heavily moderated and PC, but there are a bunch of young kids that use the forum, so that might have something to do with it. I recently started to participate a little more. I'll check the latest posts 2-3 times a day and post a reply whenever I can help someone out. I think that the gear obsession can be a little much at times but as someone mentioned it's all in good fun. As far as cliques are concerned, who cares? There's over 100k members! Personally, I post a message and then forget about it - then on to the next thread. I can't control how/when/if someone responds to me. I mean TB has hundreds of posts a day! I've never seen a post about religion, but then again, I only go on there to talk about bass. It isn't as pretty as BC, but I think the subject matter/wealth of info make up for all that. And with a little bit of tact, you can easily avoid the mods... but if you're one of those people who like to stir up a fight, then best of luck with that. For all those that can't stand TB, I recommend giving it a second chance (or third). Over the years, TB has gradually become one of my top bass resources which is something I never expected. Cheers from New Orleans
Welcome to the forum. I pretty much agree with all of that. TB can be a great forum, but to my mind it's a victim of it's success. I just can't keep up with all the posts. I guess the key to it is being a bit more selective with what you read.

If I were you I'd get myself along to your nearest friendly guitar shop and pick up a couple of boxes that basses are shipped to them in. One triangular one and a second larger rectangular to put the first box inside. There's a thread somewhere on here about boxes people have used for shipping - I seem to remember that boxes used for bicycles and ones for plasma TVs were two solutions that other have found.

The headstock shape looks a bit wrong, but is that not a classic vibe?
I bought this bass and can confirm that the neck is dated 72 and stamped J Torres, the pots are 71's and there is the usual paint stick in the neck pocket showing the finish to be original. Its a great little bass and weighs in at less than 7lbs
Great result and what a bargain!

As far as I know the Beatbass has a 30" scale. A quick search reveals Acidbass has got one, so maybe you could drop him a PM to check.
Harley Benton Beatbass. The Hofner copy. Very light, 32" scale (I think) and very playable. Funky looks too. Have a look here.
These were the first thing I thought of when I saw the title of the thread. They were quite flavour of the month for a while - I seem to remember that several people from these boards (or the earlier incarnations) bought one after glowing recommendations from others.
