1.
Why would that be? They are all though neck and through strung, pretty much ideal for resonance, and the slotted headstock gives a steep break angle over the nut.
Well since some of them barely have wood on 'em and exist of mostly holes -.- Which doesn't really do much good to the resonance now does it? ^^
 2.
Wishbass. Ain't no good having a fancy bass if I can't afford it.
Well... They look great ... Really great... But the resonance must be like crap with some of them... :S
 3.
Of those that I have experience with, I'd have to say Conklin. Beautifully made, exceptionally well playing, and fantastic sounding instrument. A bit on the expensive side though, probably a result of market demand.....
Wauw... Those look... Well... They have more of an "impact" and "WOW" effect then any other bass guitar I ever saw... (except maybe Gene Simmons's base the first time I saw him when I was like 8 years old ) And if they sound even close as good to how they look... Well Then I might consider buying one since the prices aren't THAT high... They are high all right.. But still affordable...
 4.
I have to agree with lozbass. I had an Alembic Stanley Clarke and it was amazing, but the price !!!!!. Sei basses take a lot of beating though, and are my favourite. I'm onto my 4th one now, the others were all bought used, but the one I have now was made for me. It's coming up to its 1st birthday next week and I really can't see me ever selling it. Its construction is 2nd to none and it plays and sounds great, if I fell out with something about it then I'd just ask Martin to change that something.
OMG!!!! You don't say... I'm not even sure if I can believe that my eyes are seeing that price... it's it's .... o.O I mean CMON!!!!!! 18000 ti begin with, a simple custom inlay costs 6000 more... Serieusly... I can't believe any bass would be worth like 30 - 40 thousand... (or even less) That really can't be taken serieusly...
 5. Simple as the title suggest... What is your favorite Custom Bass brand??? !!
 6.
I played quite a lot of metal the last 10 years and i guess it also depend the type of metal you plan to play. For prog metal , death/math metal or heavy metal you ll be looking at pretty different type of sound, +1 for the 1x15 + 4x10 or 2x10 combination btw i got a 4X10 Mesa boogie diesel with electrovoice for sale here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=42564
Thx ^^ But I live in Belgium So that's not an easy solution ^^
 7. Hello all, What is in your opinions a great setup for metal? Just metal in general, no specified genre. The price: £850 -- £2000 or something... Any ideas are welcome. If you need to ask something, go ahead of course! Thanks in advance, Ward
 8.
Take a look at this, Gothic... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=41553
Thx! =)=) Made up my mind tho... In 4 months or so I'll have enuf... I'm gonna go for a Vampyre NT Custom... Still need to work on some of details but it's pretty much set... Now I'm starting to look for an amp Was going to buy myself an Ashdown 300W or something... But I think it might be worth spending a little more on it... Else I'd have an unbelievably good bass with a 'so so' amp wich kinda makes no point O.O ... So now looking into that... ^^ Doing some research and testing some stuff
 9. Well... I deffinitly think they are overrated... Not only do they charge to much for what they are... They are verry limited to what they can imo... I mean, they are great jazz/blues basses... No doubt! But that's all.... Imo you can't play metal with Fender's, and some hard rock isn't great either -.- That's personal opinion but still... While Washburn and Warwick... They make basses that are great for metal, rock and still able to play jazz/blues ! Fender's like Gibson... Fanboy madness... Great stuff... But way overpriced
 10.
Well if the Vampyre has caught your eye then go for it. Voltages - As I understand it higher voltage will mean that the tone controls will have more ability to shape the sound - the extra voltage being needed across a larger circuit. 2/3 band - 2 band gives controls for the high/low frequencies, 3 band gives control of hi/mid/low. Simple! Pickups - Generally on a bass with 2 pickups the neck one will add low end to the overall sound, whilst the bridge pickup will add the higher frequencies. Also, there is also a different quality to the sounds produced at different points along the string, so each pickup also provides its own "sound". I'm sure the pickups on a Vampyre will have been configured with heavy music in mind. Neck types - If you mean the wood, I personally love the dense, exotic woods (ovangkol/wenge/bubinga) that Warwick offer. Looks aside, they give quite a dark tone that works for me, so that's why I play them! Important tip - If you spend alot of money on a bass please do not try to repaint it with a bedroom custom job - you'll kill the resale value if you ever want to trade. It may sound like a cool idea at the time, but believe me it won't be and you'll regret it. No really, you will.
And that was my first idea.... But Warwick has wicked paint jobs so I'll leave that... And if I'd let someone do it... It'll be a freagin Airbrush proffesional I wouldn't want to f*** it up ^^

If I get the whole Custom Pricelist thing right the cheapest Vampyre NT is 4,100€ O.O So I'm checking if I'm not mistaking I hope I'm not at least :s Would be stupid to... Since their oldor Vampyre models the "Dark Lord" and "SN" cost about half of that but are discontinued...
 12.
A resounding +1. If you don't know what you want go for the "used" option. You can keep buying and selling until you know what you want. You will probaly like the neck from Bass A, Body of Bass B, Pick-Ups from Bass C, then you can have the ideal bass built. If you go custom and can't decide what you want then the chances are you won't like the end result and will lose a load of money if you want to sell it. It will be a Bass built to your spec and no-one else may like it. I have just ordered an ACG Re-Curve 5-String from Alan and it took the best part of an afternoon just picking the wood. If I hadn't owned and sold a load of Basses over the years I would not have had a clue where to start when you start getting questions like. Bolt on or Through Neck? Asymetric Neck Profile? 34 or 35" Scale? String Through? Which Pick-Ups? etc. etc.
Well... I do know what I want ^^ I'm just not great in explaining it... And I can't afford to go buying and selling basses for 2 - 3 years... My parents would KILL me I could try to explain em But they most deffinitly wouldn't understand xD ^^
 13.
Thw Warwick Vamp and the Vigiers will definitely give you the really modern active growl that you're after for (nu-) metal. Also have a look at Spector NS basses. They're brilliant for metal. Here's a dude playing his spector US NS4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1JbqC0DiD4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yltJaHqR_a0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_GvfOlV0EA And here's Doug Wimbish getting funky on his... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f35NVX_PU0
Yeah, I've been asking round and I especially hear alot of Vampyre O.O And they look... well unbelievably xD And Vigiers doesn't make neck-thru anymore... And well... When I pay £2000 or more for a bass I don't want a freagin bolt-on xD -Warwick Electronics - Few question tho! Difference between 9V and 18V, what will the difference be in sound? What's the difference between 2- and 3-band? Last one bout this: Is there a big difference between the configurations?? -Have no idea wich pickup to pick either, is there a way to find out wich one is better? -Any neck type you can suggest?
 14.
What sort of a look and sound are you after? Something conventional? Something Classy? Something outrageous? When you say rock can you be a bit more specific - it's a wide genre after all!
Yeah ^^ Well... Something not to conventional deffinitly... To give u some ideas: I really don't like ANY Fender model O.O Just not one Warwick Vampyre - Looks GREAT Vigiers Arpensomething Good looking! Marleaux Gallery Well... Really don't like the first group but from then on they only get prettier. Also... Color isn't a big deal since there's a big chance I'll let someone painbrush it with a custom design... And the genre... Well... I have a Gibson SG... And it's like good at playing just any rock... And also bit more heavy stuff... I'd like something like that, that's good in a broader area. But mostly for just heavy metal - Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Guns 'n Roses... And still able to handle nu-metal like System of a Down, Korn & stuff for when I get a bit better. I hope that's a bit more information? Not easy trying to explain xD Also, now I've been looking more at custom made ones I've seen much more kinds of wood, a lot of flaming maple to... Is this any good?
 15.
There are some very nice European basses that you may do better with the exchange rate... Marleaux (Consat 4 is very nice) Warwick (take your pick- they wil all do rock but the Vampyre is awesome!) Clover - Avenger or Expression 4 (Yummmie) Vigier - Arpege 4.... VERY nice.... Or as said above get yer backside to the Gallery in London and chat with Alex.... He'll be more than happy to liberate your money from you!
Thanks! That's a real great help!! I'll check all those options out Hafta go to London somewhere in the vacations anyways ^^
