Stupidly Easy Tunes Which Are An Absolute Pleasure To Play

band guitarist problem are we being unreaonable
johnnylager replied to peety's topic in General Discussion
while i'm on the subject what are the best places to advertise in peoples expeience obviously we haven't been in this position before ?
f*** him, move on & keep practising with the rest of the band so you're tight as when the new guy comes along - it will make it easier for him to integrate musically. You could try Bandmix, Forming Bands, Partysounds, et al. I found Bandmix the best & Forming Bands sh*te, but YMMV. And good luck. -
Top day all round and many, many thanks to all involved, particularly Nik & Colin for all their hard organisational work and all those who presented workshops - you know who you are. Special thanks again to Nik, for driving the Magic bus up from the south coast. My personal gear highlights were - Nik's BC Rich David St Hubbins' JJB Precision Boo's 30" SX Jazz Dave C's Gibson SGZ & yet again, Stingrayfan's G&L It was also nice to try out the Digitech BSW I recently acquired, as I am currently ampless! Most thanks however, must go to Mrs. Lager, who foolishly let me go to the Bash, despite moving house on Friday afternoon. I think I may have to get her some chocolates or flowers or something. Unless she settles for the mic I won...

The Landmark, Pompey, 10 or 15 years ago - my midweek sports specials' fella turns up at my gig, having found out what his bird & I got up to on 'uni scuba club' nights and dragged me off stage for a panning. One brief scuffle later, he was thrown out & I was back on stage finishing the song - 'Kerosene' by Big Black if I remember correctly. Happy days. Similar vintage at the Black Prince, Pompey - the drummer kept getting fiddled up by the landlord, so we felt bound to intervene on his behalf. After a while of watching it unfold, anyway. La Cage wine bar, Havant, 20-odd years ago - packed the place with punters, barman tried to offer us some derisory sum of money, came back the next day to speak to the boss [Butch], ended up stuck in an alleyway with said [very hard] Butch and 3 of us were saved from a right battering by a timely beer delivery man. We graciously accepted the derisory amount.
Either a money's no object, or if you're short on cash and can only afford a single cab, which would be the best use of that one box for all occasions?
Can only comment on the latter & chose a Barefaced Big Juan. Presented with the former situation, I'd get another or maybe even commission a Double Big Juan ™ to sit under the Matamp I'd also commission.

Anyone Ever Been Too Drunk Or Stoned?

Yes, frequently. -
Encores (the last few numbers in your set, not the brand)
johnnylager replied to OldGit's topic in General Discussion
Our encore is a song called 'f*** Off' and the audience always shouts for it as soon as we take to the stage, before we've even played a note to him. We got some audience participation the other day too - we shout 'prick', they return with 'w***er'. It's a Pompey thing. -
Did a few gigs in Holland some years ago with limitless free lager & skunk. Seeing it all off on the boat home was fun too. EDIT: Allegedly.

Hey Al, maybe a VT2 Twin? That would give you the option to use the balanced out to feed the balanced in of the MarkBass, ie - bass > wireless > chorus > VT2 > amp. Then you only have one unbalanced run, from the wireless to the chorus. The blue channel should tick the warmth & grit boxes & use the red channel for some boost. I think they're great bits of kit, I'll have one at the bash.

Does it have to be valve emulation, or could you look at a valve pedal? They need a PSU and can be bigger, but in my expeience / opinion they sound more, er, valvey. Dave Hall does them with DI out too. Cant comment on the Voxiness though.

Distortion? Try trawling through here. I'd recommend the Ashdown Hyperdrive or the Bass Big Muff I replaced it with after stupidly selling the Ashdown. Both are cheap and good. I sold the Ashdown on sale or return and it didn't come back - make of that what what you will.

I settled on a DHA VT2-Twin-EQ-Bass after owning BDDI, Paradriver & Microbass II and deciding they were only pretending.

Those with big fretboard inlays - Spector, Jazz, Ric, 80's Aria, Gibson, etc.
With enough power behind it it's quite unstoppable!
Yes, a kW will do nicely. I've used the Big Juan at a couple of obscenely loud rehearsals recently & it's time to report back. First occaision with with guit & drums in originals band and managed the heady height of 3 on the LH. Bit of B&T boosted on the LX, DHA & LH flat and well loud enough to be heard articulately. Last night was with 2 guits & drums in the covers and got to 4 [very loud rehearsal] and remember the LH takes off at 6. No problems with clarity & volume there either. I stupidly forgot my ear plugs & me ears are still ringing - that's not clever kids, remember yours. Thought I'd see what it could do on the low end front & cranked the bass on both Tone Pump & LH - it coped fine. Well coped isn't the right word - coped makes it sound as if it could only just do it - I feel there was plenty more to give and the woofer isn't broken in yet, but have now relocated a signal generator from work and will give it a few hours of 20Hz over the next few days.

The DeArmond is supposed to be good & uses a 1M linear pot. Schematic link in here - http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showp...mp;postcount=16
My guess is that you guys just like to tinker around with this stuff because you're either control freaks with lots of unresolved bass OCD issues and/or you've spent your bass maintenance budget on more gear!!
I really need to find someone who actually reaches the limit of the Big One on a gig though, it seems we're a long way from that happening with current users.
Working on it.
Errr... hello. I would be extremely interested in trying some monster Barefaced cabs and very much suspect that at my gig volumes I would need something bigger than a Big One.
I've had the LH-1000 above 6 [where it really gets loud] a couple of times with me Big Juan, but I haven't as yet found a suitable venue for an extended play at these levels and the other bands tend to complain in the rehearsal studio. Quite fancy 2 Big Juans X-fired though.
