1. Would you? It's great to stick with the "right" thing to do, but let's face it, we all generally go with the choice of best pay. It costs a shed load to tour nowadays, living in a tour bus for 3-4 months every summer is not something the top end guys are prepared to do. That why they all play festivals! It's the perfect scenario, someone takes care of the the venue, PA, lighting, stage, facilities, security, and insurance, and you just turn up with some back line and your crew and play for 45-60 mins and probably take home an easy pay check. Don't get me wrong, I think Dave grohl is a top bloke and great musician who's heart is in the right place. His genuine love for music makes it hard to hate him, it would be nice to see home do a more fan based show though.
2. Wow!! As long as you aren't giving any personal details away, I'd go for it, stranger things have happened!!! Just be careful mate! Even though you have shipped my bass, I'd hate to hear you wound up in a ditch somewhere!
3. Haha, ok I'll get back I my box! It's always the same with bands though, I always think of the Simpsons when Bart is at the spinal tap gig, and the bass player goes "nobody rocks like (looks at gaffer tape on back of bass with town name) Springfield!!! It's clever see, it makes us feel special!
4. He did though!! I thought he was just having a bit of banter, I do think he would have played all night if they would have let him! Finished on time with a great version of "best of you" I got goose bumps when he stopped and the whole crowd were singing the "whoa, whoa" but!
5. Welcome to the dark side bubinga, it's always nice to have newcomers!!! Don't feel guilty, just enjoy!!!
6. I was also there. I spent 4 years doing stage lighting for major concerts and productions like this, so along with being a musician, think I am somewhat qualified to comment on such things... In terms of the front of house sound, it was pretty bad to start with (not the worst I've ever heard) but it did improve as the night went on. The job was made incredibly difficult by the conditions, but both the placement and setup of the delay stacks wasn't great, I agree with the out of phase comments from the OP, plus I had I delay stack smack in the middle of my line of sight to the centre of the stage. From a lighting and AV point of view, I thought it was below what you would expect from a band the size of the foo's but wasn't appalling. The performance itself was really great, loads of energy from Dave, although it left him breathless at times, but Nate isn't the most animated of bass players.... The industry is changing so much now, that the big bands can't make "enough" (I use that term loosely) money by playing arena's anymore which is where they would blown the roof of somewhere like the MEN, so they have to go to open air stadium tours instead. it appears that they don't have the experience to pull them off with much conviction though. Personally, I bloody loved it, but I'm a dirty rock n roll fan so can deal with a performance that is a little rough and ready if it's delivered with a bunch of energy. if they looked they couldn't be assed, I wouldn't have tolerated it, but after 20 years playing these songs together, they seem to genuinely still love it and it makes it all the more enjoyable to watch!
7.
I'm not convinced there would be that many of us at $100 a show...
I didn't mean it literally, I just meant in an attempt to smoke him out as it were
8. Anyone else want to join the party and message the Facebook page? It seems as though the band itself IS legit, just the authenticity of the email is in question. Surely he would welcome a bunch of "European" bassists beating his door down?
9. I'd be all over that mike Kroeger dig personally!
10. Sorry Bobby K, I was pretty sure I was going to take it, but Seeing one in action last night clinched it. To rub it in, the photo's don't do it justice, it's stunning in person :-)
11. This one also has the Spector logo, as opposed to the SSD logo. Never been a fan of the SSD logo myself. Cetera should be able to confirm the details though as he is the oracle of all things Spector!
12. Wow, what a stunning bass! At this price, I can't imagine it will stick around long. As you mention the NS4CR's have the solid maple wings and are apparently more true to the U.S. Spector sound, but have never had the change to compare myself. GLWTS
13. Always wanted to try one of these, great looking basses. This seems very reasonably priced too, it's a good job my needs ah e somewhat changed of late!!! GLWTS
14. Hey JapanAxe, it's fitted to my Spector euro, And I got the pots from waveydavey so I'm Not sure as to to the make
15. I always found that full vol on both pickups on my jazz (before o changed to dp123's gave a poorer output than favouring one pickup, it has to do with the outputs being I phase or something technical (I Annan electrician so should know this) so always favour one or the other
16. Hey everyone, just a little though here as I feel like I have had a lightbulb moment. I have just swapped my vol/vol controls on my bass for vol/pan and it's awesome!!! I can't imagine why you would want it any other way.... I always have at least one of the pickups on my p/j and previously my jazz fully on, so to tweak the mix meant two knobs needed fiddling. Now I just leave the volume maxed and pan between the two to get the blend! Anyone have any negative is this approach?
17. Oooooh, now that IS nice.... Damn you now I have GAS, but not enough money!!!!
18. Would make a great preamp pedal....
19. Personally, the idea of being able to rent gear sounds quite appealing, it could cure GAS. The thought of renting my gear out is far less appealing however, and if I had to pay a large deposit to rent, is sooner take a punt and just buy. I could imagine some people may be interested though, so good luck!
20. Well, it's nearly home time mate... Finger crossed all is ok!
21. I'm in a "grunge tribute" band called smells like Seattle, playing all the big hits from the era eg nirvana, pearl jam, Alice in chains, sound garden etc. really god fun, and to be honest, it's a far more technical genre than I had given it credit for.
