1. Thanks for the responses guys!!! Yes, I understand basic rhythm notation, but I was more interested to see if anyone else had a method that had worked well for them. The chord chart is probably closest to what I need though. I want to start depping, so will need a book full of songs I can call on at short notice, and want to keep it as simple as possible, then just add in specific lines where needed to jog my memory.
2. Hi GassBass, when I saw this thread, I was going to say either a USA SUB5, or if you found someone willing to drop their pants, maybe a USA RAY5 or a Spector euro 5. Given you have had both and got rid, I don't know what it is that you are looking for!!!! Both the euro (with a third party pre or a trim pot tonepump) and the ray5 are exceptional basses, and would own both in a heartbeat. Personally know you have tried a few basses since, I'd revisit them before buying anything else in that price bracket.
3.
Toss-up between Tool & Opeth. Neither really fit my playing style, but phenomenal music & stupendously good drummers. Metallica for the $$$$ is tempting but I'd end up slapping Lars twice. Once for being a rubbish drummer & once for being Lars... Jon.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! +1million!
4.
Have half the bands being mentioned done anything even vaguely interesting in the last 15 years? Or are you all just after an easy life churning out popular songs to an adoring but ageing audience? There's plenty of new bands from the last 15 years that I like but few with bassists. So, for me it would have to be the Birthday Massacre, or failing that I'm perfectly happy with the musical choices I've already made.
Does muse not count?
5.
Metallica did not, does not and will not ever have Stones money. blue
If 175m ain't enough, then nothing will be!!! (Taken from James Hetfield net worth, as opposed to 360 of Mick Jagger) Metallica also have 20 years worth of music work and other investing to do before you can draw an accurate comparison Rob trujillo's measly net worth of 15m will do this little metal head anytime!!!
6. Hi guys n gals, just a question regarding notation, I can't read (yet, it's doe things hope to master one day) but wondered if there was a general way of notation, besides tab. I just need a simple method that can be easily read on a poorly lit stage that could show the chord progression and rhythm in a quick and easy way? I know I'm asking a lot! I just remember reading that rob Trujillo has a version of notation that is similar to Pino Palladino's but neither of which I can find. Any advice appreciated!
7. I have just picked up a custom world guitars maple fretless neck of these pages and am waiting on some more bits to complete the build. It was dumb luck I got it really cos I prefer rosewood!! Very keen to see how it sounds!
8. I think the real issue here is communication, or in this case, lack of. It's not really enough to take orders and let the customer work out what is happening... If they had been on the front foot and put a warning notice on the checkout page that due to Dahl strike there will be delays, you have the option to not place the order. Then once ordered they could send out an email with confirmation of order AND advice on delays and expected ETA, with a general update every 2-3 days. I work in sales, occasionally there are delays, but bad news is always better than NO news!
9. Anyone else find that they REALLY enjoy playing songs that they don't particularly enjoy listening to? There are a few artists that I don't particularly like to listen to, but as fear fun to play!
10.
Queens Of The Stone Age
Or this
11.
Foo Fighters
Or this
12. I think Metallica were auditioning around 13 years ago, that would do me nicely thanks! Enough $$$$ for you blue? I would have got 1million just for turning up!! Ahhh, dreams.....

17.
Fingers crossed for all of us then. Darn cheese-eating surrender monkeys!
Hahahah, just what I was thinking!!
18. Guess I'll have no birthday present to open on Friday!!! Still showing is in Koln grrrrr
19. I don't see them collapsing... The sad reality is that until listeners begin to once again place a value on music, the payment for it will continue to fall.
20. Bumpety bump bump
21. EB fivers have a 6 bolt neck, but it looks alright!!! I'd love to know what they play/sound like
22. Sold a octave pedal to Rik, great comms and prompt payment. Great guy to deal with! Cheers
23. Some interest but still here. bump
24. Great article, I'm in a slump at the moment, and there are some great points in there I'll use. Focusing on a particular thing for only 20 mins is a good one, it's easy to get to involved in something and then the night is gone!
