Hey pete, slight thread drift, but how do you find the dean markley's? Thinking of trying the blue steels out. I currently use RoRo sound swing bass on my passive basses and going to change stings for the first time on my spector, so was thinking of slinky's?

Despite the prestige, musicman are still a production company, they churn these things out like hot cakes. Much the same as fender, gibson or any other production company, they churn out in the most part at least the expected quality instrument. Occasionally you get a "lemon", but this is a personal thing. What one deems a lemon is another mans master piece. I've learned the hard way to try before you buy, but you would expect that this beast of yours would churn out a certain tone. I hope for your sake it's just the batteries and you will be away. Playing devils advocate though, did you not wonder why a special run like a 25th Anniversary has not sold from new in 5 years? Keep us posted mate, I know was numbed when I plugged my musicman in for the first time And was unimpressed, it's a heart is king feeling. Luckily for me though, my young bloke had been in my practice room and mucked about with the eq on my amp, so a quick dial back of the bass from full and the hi and mods from 0 and it there it was, stingray in full!

Cheers for the feedback guys, will probably wait until after Christmas and see what I can do. I like the sound if the mini mac though I think!

I love mine, my only criticism is that it doesn't have a tonepump, it's been fitted with an emg 3 band by the previous owner. Guess I'll just have to get another one then! I also have just found some cool passive pickups, the seymour Duncan NYC, they are the same size as the emg soapbars, but are milt tap, so you can set them up as singles or humbuckers! I was Wondering how to get a great passive jazz tone out of a spector!! DAMN IT!!!

I still haven't had a chance to get into mine, it's wrapped up and under the tree!! Bring in Christmas!

The author of the worlds best self motivation book, Napoleon Hill, suggests that there are two different types of imagination :synthetic, and creative. Synthetic imagination is taking existing ideas and reconfiguring them in different ways to come up with new ideas. (I'll come back to this point). Creative imagination is used to create something entirely new, and is much more difficult to achieve. This is how we assume all of the best musicians write all their best work, but it may not be the case. I recently saw a clip on youtube by a guitarist who was talking about writing songs, and how as part if his degree, he was challenged with taking old jazz standards and changing them just enough to make a new song. This may sound like plagiarism, but if you stop as think about it, there are only 13 notes, and in most scales there are only 8 out of those 13. Reduce again the number if chord progressions that sound pleasing to the ear, and the same ones seem to keep coming out. He draws a really interesting comparison between the red hot chilli peppers song "scar tissue" and the Beatles "blackbird", did frusciante mean to do this? Maybe, maybe not who knows, but this is My challenge for next year is to start writing and this will be the process I use to start with. If you think you aren't "creative" try taking one of your fave songs and "tweak" it to turn it I to something else!

Ok, so I know this is an old argument, and there is not a lot of difference but I need some specific advice. I have a 2012 iMac as the family pc, which would be the ideal machine to use for home recording. The trouble is it sits in our home office, not My practice room! I have spoken to the mrs about me hijacking it but she is obviously Not too keen. I was in asda the other day and they have laptops for a couple of hundred quid, would something like that be enough to do a couple if live and some virtually tracks? I could use the iMac when needed, but just thinking in a more permanent basis. I would look to use the focusrite Scarlett or something similar with the free protools/cubase or whatever it comes with in both the laptop on and mac for working on projects. Cheers for advice!

FYI, I think you will find it is spelled "aspic". Having no clue what it was, and not wanting to feel stupid, I google "arsepic" and got bombarded with Kim kardashian's "arse pic"!
....and unheard of in London as well.
Well, let's face it. London is one country, everything north of Watford is another. I'm convinced downing at thinks it just part if Scotland!

Leigh based, we cover all the big hits from that epic era if grunge music, and have a laugh doing it. Check out out website www.smellslikeseattle.co.uk or our Facebook smells like Seattle UK for some reviews. There are also some vids on youtube to check out.
I suppose a lot of this is down to sale and demand factors. There does seem to be a load of very competitively priced used Fenders out there, but then there also seems to be tons of new ones about as well. From my experience of two other brands Gibson and Rickenbacker - the frankly ridiculous front end pricing (along with UK availability) of basses made by these companies is understandaby pushing prices up in the secondhand market. That said, it's like houses. Why should I sell one of my basses for less than the market price?
The market price is dictated by what the market is willing to pay and how badly you want to sell. You COULD wait and not sell it below what you deem to be "market value", but in the wrong market you could wait a while. That is why there have been houses on the market in this country for over 18 months in this country, something that is just unheard of in aus. Ask anyone trying to sell a used spector if prices are rising lol

This is a other great review mate. The thing that stands out as you have said is the power of the tonepump. It's a pretty full on bit of gear that, you can hear it just wants to take off. I guess that's why it has such a bad reputation, and I think is ill Definately hold off for a trim pot version although it still won't give you the full use of the range if the pre without an output sacrifice. This wouldn't be a problem if you are a set and forget kind if guy, and you only use one bass in you set. For me, I tend to tweak the pre to suit the song and also I change between two other basses in my set, so keeping the twiddling on the amp to a minimum is preferred. I like the gold hardware on the black cherry, it looks stunning. And thankyou for for taking some decent photos, I will never turn one down now based on this colour, I can't help but feel bad for Cosmo....
I got the impression that the neck is chunkier than a Jazz but not as chunky as a Precision. Mind you, I haven't actually played a Precision for ages and don't own one at the moment - and I haven't had a Jazz bass for months either, so you could be right! The neck definitely doesn't feel thin to me, though. I'd say it's definitely not as thin or narrow as an Ibanez neck, for example.
. No, you are correct. But I never said it was either ;-) Is ANYTHING as slim as an ibanez neck? They are crazy thin, and narrow spacing as well. The thing withe euro's and rebop's is that they are hand finished, so there is some variation between basses. The rebop's tend to be chunkier also. I have also edited my original post, it should have read "can't", meaning I think most people will find them easy to play and find little objections
Congrats Mark, that's a beauty! I'm gonna have to own one of these at some point, I love my NS2000! Enjoy!
I have a euro 4 and an NS2000/5. I have also played a korean legend. I think the gap between the legend and a euro is big enough to justify the additional spend, the NS2000/5 however is much closer IMHO, with it being neck through and curved top.the electronics in the NS2000 is probably it's weakest point, ad that's only being picky as it has the EMG pre.
I nearly bought this bass from Mark but decided against as I didn't really like the colour. Your pics are making me regret that decision.
From the pics I've seen of black cherry prior to this I'd agree. This looks stunning though!! With regard to neck profile, when I jump between my fender jazz and my euro, the jazz feels slightly more to handle. I cant imagine many having issues getting on with the euro, unless you have a bunch of bananas for hands and can only really feel comfortable on a baseball bay sized neck.
