NBD (X 2) - Spector Legends 4 & 5 Classic *Audio Clip 2*
Damonjames replied to discreet's topic in Bass Guitars
Personally, I wouldn't describe the tone on the recording as what most people describe as "a spector tone", that is typically a little more mid prominent and quite growly. Most people however never fully utilise the preamp, they, much like stingrays, can be quite versatile. I think you have for a great sound out of that bass mate, it sits really well in the mix. Wondering if changing the emg pre in mine to a tonepump is the right thing lol -

Try a fender then mate, they have a 19mm spacing at the bridge. I find the spector and the stingray 5's really comfortable, but the fenders are just too wide. I think most of the super jazz basses by the high end guys are same spacing so you have plenty of options!

What was it that didn't do it for you about this? It ticks a lot of boxes as far as I'm concerned. It's weakest point is the preamp which is easily fixed!

Well played Mark, it takes some nuts to play over Bernard Edwards and post it in a bass players forum!!! Not too shabby fella, and that spector sits really nice in the mix, lucky for you I had already bought my NS2000/5 or I'd probably have had that one off you!!! -
Thanks for putting the pics in Mark!!
He doesn't do two single coils a la Jazz?
He does, but generally only in limited runs. If you look at cetera's collection there is a white NS2J, Czech made bolt on neck j/j spector. I'd love to play one! There is also a drool worthy limited edition Czech made neck through 5 string j/j euro In blue which is stunning! -
It's everyone's favourite, new gear day!!! Well sort of anyway lol. Mine is a Christmas gift, but I got it yesterday and "had" to try it out to make sure it's ok!! It's a Spector NS2000/5 and it's is stunning, I'll get a dodgy photo up, but here is a link to the gear porn page with some pics of it http://basschat.co.uk/topic/78081-how-about-a-spector-thread/page__pid__2600828__st__180#entry2600828 I hope you don't mid Jeff. I have probably done things the wrong way around, my first spector was a euro 4, so expected the NS2000/5 to be a step down, but in ititial impressions are that it's not that big of a step back. Here are some thoughts on my brief play on this bad boy Pros: Fit and finish are great, although it does feel different as my euro is satin finish. Balance is good, not too much neck dive Curved top and bottom on body look nice Brass nut, and frets Are in great condition Very playable neck, reasonably thin front to back and not unlike my stingray 5 35" scale much more manageable than I expected Sound is good, about what you would expect from an active bass at this price. Low B string g is a killer!!! Cons Weight, this guy is pretty heavy which I wasn't expecting, my euro is quite light Body shape, although a minor thing, I was expecting g it to have the "spector shape" but the top born is slightly longer and thinner (no biggy) Sound is a little thin, as it has HZ's in it already, it's a prime candidate for a tonepump or aguilar preamp upgrade and should sound killer Overall I'm really happy with it, had I not had a euro to compare it to if imagine I'd probably be raving a little more than I am, but at the price I got this, it is an absurdly amazing bass for the money. With a 100quid preamp upgrade I'd imagine this could go toe to toe with May high end 5 strings worth a lot more money. Now I just have to live with I knowing it's in the wardrobe until Christmas!

I am acquiring my second spector today, so expect a NBD post later, but agree totally. There is nothing that beats used spector for value for money, although they are not to everyone's taste which is why the used prices are so low, thankfully. I really like the look of that 5 string, I havnt seen that pickup arrangement in a legend before, nice work mate and welcome to the spector club. Before you know it you will have sold your fenders in search if a USA NS!! -
A GK MB series head and GK neo cabs of any variation (I run an rb1001 and a 212 and 115), but personally if run a small board with a tuner and sansamp vt bass deluxe. It has 6 programmable settings, so you have your gk for a great clean tone, and then can add varying degrees of svt tone as required.

The above NS2000/5 is now mine!!! And it's on it's way to join what I hope will be a collections as I already have a spector euro 4lx. When I can find one ill fit a tonepump pre to try and make sound a little more "spector" bit I just hope I can get on with the 35" scale!
they all seem to pale in comparison to a Lakland 55-02.
You take that back! Lol
I had a metal plate in my left wrist but had it took out to help with the movement last year, it didn't though. Stingray5s for me and my duff wrist work well, come and join the dodgy left wrist and Stingray gang
I was wondering how long it would be before you showed up pete! I still think my USA SUB 5 was one of the most comfortable basses I've ever played, and the stingray 5 I played at pmt felt just as nice. If my current love a fair with spector doesn't last, I'll be right back to it?

Hypnotic straps are about 20 quid and I love Mine!

JT played an active Aria, so I reckon the fernandes would be worth serious consideration. It's on my bucket list of basses, I have missed out on buying the bass Patrick now has 3 times just due to not being able to move one gear. I would be really keen to try one.
-
Also, Patrick has a fernandes for sale at the moment, and if i remember rightly, he is partial to spectors.....
-
Gave you thought about a fernandes gravity deluxe 5? They have neck through construction, 34inch scale, emg j pickups with FGI preamp, but not 100% on the string spacing.
-
What a shame!! I would have bought your rebop if I could, but have just bought a spector ns2000/5 as I love my euro 4 and want a 5 string again. If I was to buy anything else it would be a USA stingray, nothing else I've played compares to it, they play and sound amazing. The USA 5's have a little more tonal variety too with the coil tap switch. What sort of music are you playing??
-
Modern player will be a bugger sound Jay, It's got humbuckers instead of single coils. I would fancy it will sound like a jazz, but with higher output, more bottoms end and no buzz which is an advantage. I don't like the fender style 5's as I can get on with the neck, 19mm spacing if a 5 is too. If for my hands to manage. I had a USA SUB5 that I sold to buy my specor euro 4, and I do regret it, that was an amazing bass. If you could get a stingray 5 (USA) I don't think you would be disappointed as they are a quality instrument and despite what some think, can be quite versatile if you work the eq and vary your right hand technique. Why are you selling the rebop? They are know for being an amazing 5er, and have one if the best low B strings around due to the 35" scale, I think given the price you have it listed at now, you will struggle to get a better bass for the money.
