I just bought the Squier Classic Vibe 60's Precision today in sonic blue. It's cost me £220. Not a lot in bass terms, but why? This thing is the best playing and sounding Precision I've ever played, and that includes the [rather expensive] 08 American Standard I had last year. It has the trad P bass sound with a more modern zing with it & a great slap sound, too. The neck is very close to the average jazz neck thickness & the build quality is utterly stunning! Rich.
+1(still not bought one yet tho)if these had been out a year ago i would have saved myself loadsa money ! the cv jazz is as good as my fender imo.

i would send an email to ashdown telling them what you found.dont think they would be to impressed with their own qc.whether here or in china.ps its unusual they have not replyed to your request.
-
good review.think the lg1000 will be more popular tho, as you said for another £100 you get 3x more power.i would like to see ashdown bring out more 4ohm cabs especially a 2x10.they could do a 4ohm version of their classic neo 2x10 cab like they do the 4x10.this would give us more of a choice if we wanted to stick to an all ashdown rig!(other makes available!)
-
they had a problem with the prc models a while ago but they have hopefully been ironed out.lets not forget ashdown are not the only manufacture to experiance problems, just that you always hear about them more.maybe its because of the amount they sell?anyway my abm 11 head has been ok,but it is a uk one!
-
anyone used these cabs?have not seen any reviews on them yet.i know the superfly amps had reliability issues, but what about the cabs?they sounded ok instore but so do lots of others!
I personally don't think that the USA basses are worth that kind of money. There's a lot of choice when you come near to the £1k barrier.
+1 i paid £800 for my mia fender j bass, not much difference in that than a £250 squier cv j bass!
-
dont now anything about harley benton. personally i would'nt buy a behringer so i would reccomend ashdown, peavey.trace elliot or swr.lots around and its a buyers market.
The LG1000 effectively is 2 x 500w amps, each capable of running at 4 ohms. So you can run 2 4ohm cabs with this head IF you plug them into separate outputs on the amp - this is the best way of using the amp, letting you get the full 1000w out of it. Don't daisy chain them off a single output as that would give you a 2 ohm load and probably bugger it!
i thought perhaps it did have 2x500w amps.so with 2 x 8ohm cabs you could either daisy chain them or one into each channel but you would only get about 500w out of it either way?

Squier 60's Classic Vibe P Bass v Fender Highway 1.
bassmansky replied to aceuggy's topic in Bass Guitars
tryed both out a few weeks ago ,close call between the two i would say.you are more likely to get a good price for a highway pbass if you decide to sell it later on than you would the squier.thats one thing in the highways favour!both good basses imo.but the highway £220 better???? -
hope they have got the QC right on these though.

tryed the LG 1000 out this morning at pmt.first tryed it with a abm 4x10 cab using a squier cv 60's jazz.sounded good lots of different sounds to be had out of this.seemed better than my abm head imo.secondly tried it with 1x15 and 2x10 superfly cabs using a highway 1 p-bass and this sounded much better,a cleaner and clearer sound.didnt realise till i looked on ashdowns website that the superfly cabs are all 4ohms.so can you use 2x4ohm cabs with it?wont do a full review on the amp i'll leave that to someone more experienced!as has been posted earlier this amp will work best at a 4ohm load, bit quiet with one 8ohm cab imo.still they are small , light and cheap. ashdown on to a winner with these i think!

What's the most over-rated bass, or bass related product???
bassmansky replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
I have to disagree, having owned a lovely Epifani 210 combo. I currently have an Ashdown combo and have tried plenty of Mag and ABM gear in the Gallery. The Epifani made every bass, passive or active, 4, 5, or 6 strings sound great. The Ashdown makes every bass sound like the amp is inside a wardrobe at the bottom of a well. They also look crap imho. No, I don't know why I bought it either, apart from it being cheap! [/quote neither do i if thats what you think of it! -
Whats with all the Ashdown hate? I had an epifani and it was crap compared to my ABM head and cab, Ashdown has loads more balls and works so well when driven, they are only wooly if your a muppet and cant use EQ or you shove a P-bass through it ( I can say that I used to own one)so much better IMHO!
+1, yes theres alot of ashdown haters on here, dont now why.a very popular brand(apart from on here)i have no problems with mine whatsoever and yes you do have to twiddle with the eq,but once you get that sound it will imho blow lots of their competitors away! But each to their own as they say! -
ashdown little giant 350..........will wait for reviews first i think. ashdown classic neo cabs.......dont think i will be able to afford them. squier classic vibe 60's pbass......see whats in the cash pot at end of this month. all this will probably change in a few weeks time anyway!

Choosing a bass cabinet (With a tight budget)
Why not go with your original choice of the mag 4x10 you will probably get more volume than from a 2x10 and you could add another cab later on?
+1 ;the 4x10 will be better on its own than the 2x10 to start with.you might not even have to add another cab to the 4x10. -
I've just had a test run of the LG 350. Very impressed with the sound quality. My only moans are the quality of the little selector switches ie active/passive, eq in/out etc and the claimed output. It's rated at 350w at 4 ohms. The cab i tried it with, an Ashdown Mag 8x10 was rated at 4 ohms, so was expecting be blown away, but wasn't. Maybe my ears! The amp itself is about the the same size as a ream of A4 paper, and weighs about the same.... I have put a deposit down and hopefully pick it up on saturday. Stay tuned. ps. In comparison to a MAG head, the sound is a lot more focused, and less woolly, reminds of the EVO amps a bit.
hopefully trying one out this weekend or next.

i might be able to get hold of an affinity for £80,+£50 for pups.£130,how much for a standard squier?if i had the cash for a cv 60's pbass i would get one tomorrow!but i see what youre saying, bit of a gamble i suppose.dont think a affinity would be the sound i was after without some modifacation.
-
LG 350 available from ebay,£219 +£7 postage.anyone got one yet?
-

-
Squier - names of their ranges and quality ?
bassmansky replied to BigBeatNut's topic in Bass Guitars
i tryed a cv 60's pbass a few weeks ago and was surprised how well it sounded, great value and well made.its the only one i have tryed though so cant help on the others.would definately buy one if i had the cash.am thinking of buying the affinity and upgrading the pups if i can get a secondhand one at a good price. -
am thinking of buying an affinity squier p-bass and would want to change the pups for wizards.does anyone now if they would be a perfect fit or a little modification is needed?also would it be worth it?just seen some seymour duncans on flea bay, same question on those as well please. thanks.
