although my squier is not in the £100 bracket i personally think ive got just as good sound now as i had before with a more exspensive bass.

i would say you will need 300w just to make sure.too much power is better than not enough.go secondhand more watts per pound!
Thanks all. Seems to be a general consensus that the older gear is the stuff to look out for. If, indeed, I decide I can't live without it. Redstriper - no idea, I am afraid, but I'll ask the guy when we go there again next week. Alexharvey - yes, I had a little peek myself - but with my eyes closed. There is a full rig on Fleabay as well... again, not that I am looking.... but, yes, I will do that exact thing next week - hire the rig again and mix and match the elements of mine with it to see if I can narrow down what gives the sound - the head or the cab. Stevie - a heavy head is fine, it's those monster cabs I worry about. Nick - that is what was so cool - the eq was flat. I think there were a couple of buttons pushed in, no idea what they did, but there was no fiddling on my part. Plugged in and Wow! Exactly how I imagined I should sound. Keep 'em coming guys! So how much is a 6 month old, gigged once Mag C210 EVO II 300 combo plus slighly older but good nick ABM 210 ext cab worth these days?.... not enough, I fear.
i have a abm 2x10 for sale at the moment but have not had much joy as yet.mags will sell on ebay but might not make what you want for it!as for trace gear, very good imo.i had a 1x15 combo.7215c was the model i think and it was a nice sound.let me down once however but only cost £20 to put right.not that heavy either!go get one!
To be honest the specials on Jools Holland arn't the best reflection of sound, seen as it is mixed for the TV.
agree with that but what a good mix it was,as always on jools! -

phatbass would be the one to give you an answer if he was on here.i watched the specials on jools holland and their bassist was using a klystron head with two classic cabs and it sounded good to me,but then not a true reflection i suppose.watch it on youtube. -
Just purchased my Ashdown Little Giant 1000, £300 from reverb with an extra 10% off for Easter so £269 for 1000 watts of smallness, even with the sh*t buttons that is a bargain! Here it is with my new cab (Cheers Pete)!
that is a bargain,enjoy!
Can anyone give their opinion regarding the Ashdown Classic Series cabs? Any tone diffferences between those and the ABM series? Thanks!!
there is one or two users of those cabs on here so you will hopefully get a reply.i will also be interested in the outcome. -
some say there is no difference between a klystron head and an abm soundwise.having only tryed the klystron instore i couldnt say either.imo the klystron 500wamp looks cool and you may find not much difference price wise online if they were to be on offer.hopefully i will be upgrading to a classic cab sometime mainly due to them having neo drivers and higher output.just a shame that i cant really try them first as most stores round here dont stock them, but as someone will hopefully tell you they are loads better than an abm cab.
-
they are a good price so you cant expect top of the range knobs and controls i suppose.dont know why they didnt keep to their original blue colour would have looked better imo,and done away with the giant symbol!i thought it sounded good when i tryed it especially through superfly cabs.take a look on reverbs site they might be the cheapest.
Ask Ashdown. Their products may suck but I have heard their customer service is great.
thought it had been a bit quiet on the ashdown bashing.
If you keep an eye out you can score the Ashdown 8x10s pretty damn cheap, and more is better, if you don't like 1, try 2. yes you can pick the abm 8x10 cab up at a good price now, also 4x10's are cheap as well so pick up two of those instead!
-

-
well second gig for my cv p-bass and what a joy it was.best sound i have had at this paticular venue, not all to do with the bass i now but really enjoyed playing it with the gloss neck.nice and light as well no more aching shoulder for me.money well spent imo.

OMG the Sub-Harmonic thingy actually works! - Ashdown
bassmansky replied to Clockworkwar's topic in Amps and Cabs
i only have it on slightly if at all.i can never hear much difference anyway.our guitard thinks it sounds boomy and told me to turn it off the other night, when i told him it was'nt even on i think he blamed the acoustics of the room or something!so my conclusion is only non bass players think it makes a difference and some bass players know it makes a difference, and the others could'nt give a t##s!
