The one on the Grassmarket - Red Dog? I'm sure it is a mistake. They had a Fender Mustang next to it (Jap reissue I presume) for £499 which seems about right for a shop.
i knew they had gone up but not that much! at least they got the mustang price right!
Bridge, nut, pickups, body wood, neck width, frets, and neck finish are the differences as donated by the spec sheets on the Squier website. Bridge -> VMP uses the old bent tin and the CV uses the new HMV. Nut -> VMP uses plastic, CV uses the superior synthetic bone. Pups -> Both using AlNiCo 5 magnets apparently, one is a Fender one, the other is designed by Seymour Duncan. Neck Finish -> VMP has a satin neck, CV has gloss. Wood -> VMP is agathis, CV is basswood. Neck Width -> VMP is slightly slimmer at the nut with a 1.625" compared to the CV's 1.65". Frets -> CV uses vintage frets, VMJ uses medium jumbo. Spec lists: Classic Vibe P Vintage Modified P Take your pick of what you prefer, or go to a shop, pick up and play. Find a good one. Buy. Personally I'd say the CV has an all round better spec and I'd look at that first.
thanks for that, unfortunately there isnt a vmp in my local store to try so for another £30 i think the vibe will get the vote.
-
the squier vintage modified pbass against the classic vibe 60's pbass. is the only difference the bridge?cant make up my mind which one to get.the VMP is cheaper and has good reviews but i have not had a chance to try one.the CV 60's i have tryed and was very impressed but is more exspensive and not sure im keen on the orangey colour head!so if the bridge is the only difference i could buy the VMP and upgrade the bridge at some point as i think this guitar looks better than the CV.decisions decisions! this question has probably been asked before so apoligies!

its classed as a 300w combo or dont you understand!i played with a 300w trace combo ,oh sorry about 200w without extension cab ,and it was more than loud enough.
-
a 300w 2x10 combo should be loud enough for most small ,medium size gigs.as suggested try it against another one .
-
i posted on another thread that fenders prices have gone up a hell of a lot!theres still some old stock at lower prices but its harder to find now.
I have a VMJ with a Mighty Mite neck and it's alot of bass for what I paid. I was very impressed with the Classic Vibe Jazz that they had (for a short while) in my local shop. I'd like to try the Precision basses but they don't tend to hang around on the shelf for long.
the 60's cv p-basses seem the most popular.they were £259 at pmt now the new stock is priced at £299.i suppose they are still VFM.
-
only trouble is they are not so cheap anymore.fender have put prices up twice in the last 2 or 3months.
-
rotosound strings - need some advice please :)

i used the swing bass type and found they lose there brightness fairly quickly.also they are quite rough on the fingers!but something for nothing ,go for it! -
I tried both and thought the complete opposite. I thought the Squier was really heavy even for a P, and thought it felt rather cheap. I may just have picked up a bad one though.
unless i picked a good one!prices gone up again on the squier at pmt now £299!not such vfm!i also had a short play on a mexican p and it was alot better than the last one i tryed,so it seems no two are the same!
-
tryed one out this afternoon and thought it was ok but not for me unfortunately,so it looks like a squier cv 60's p-bass is the one i shall be having when i get round to it!pmt had the mustang priced at £499 which i thought was a bit much considering the squier is £259 and is imo vfm!
I'm thinking about selling my tobias and my current amp head (running an ashdown EB180) which should give me £400, enough for a decent used head i think. I've seen markbass LMII heads going for that much and they seem really good, i've tried the jeff berlin combo a couple of time and it sounded really good, but how would it sound in the mix for metal? I'm after something really punchy that will cut through and really bring out the growl in my warwick and musicmans. Any other suggestions? I was also thinking something along the likes of a GK 700RB-II, an ampeg SVT-3 pro or an ampeg B-2R, B-2RE or a B-1RE. Also, would any/all of the above sound significantly better through my ashdown MAG 115 and 210T cabs until i can scrape together enough money to upgrade them too?
why dont you try a abm evo11 head.pick one up on flea bay and have change left over towards some cabs.very close soundwise to an ampeg imo.
You're right, and it wasn't the reason I went for it. I liked the tone and the flexibility of both being able to drop the eq out quickly and also the couple of Bright and Deep eq settings. which give me a reasonable set of quick changes of tone when doing covers. A footswitch would be even better but the budget didn't get me into the ABM range new, and - with the comments on here about Ashdown reliability I wasn't too keen on 2ndhand.
i hardly use mine on my abm, couldnt notice much difference with it on or not,pre 07 abms are usually pretty reliable as are the new ones,it was when ashdown first shipped prouduction to the prc that they had a few problems ie april 07.

this cab is only 8 months old.it is the newer model with the square black carrying handles instead of the round silver type.comes with a ashdown cover.this has been gigged about 6 times coupled up to my 4x10 so has not been overworked!not really needed as the 4x10 is plenty loud enough and don't think i would use it on its own, delivery/pick up could be arranged around cambridge area as well. £220 or swap /trade for a compact 1x15.
Hey folks, I've been musing over selling my old Ashdown ABM 500 but I have no idea what to ask for it! It's one of the original EVO's which I've owned for around 7 or 8 years now, it's an amazing sounding amp that's never let me down, but I'm thinking of getting something a bit smaller. Basically it seems to be getting heavier and I'm getting wussier with age! I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, I didn't want to put it in the for sale section as I haven't convinced myself to sell it yet, but if anyone has any idea of it's worth then please let me know... Many thanks!
you won't get as much for it now as you would've 12 months ago!ive seen them go for £300 ish on the bay, they sell as well as a newish one, probably because it will have made in england on the back!hang on to it unless you need the cash.
Shame they don't import the california blue ones though I think mine looks alright in vintage white with with aged pearl pickguard though. I didn't like the original tort pg much.
not much choice of colours, red or vintage white!bet the blue ones look good,i would go for the white one over the red as yours JLP looks cool.
My CIJ one is my no 1 gigging bass. It sounds deeper & punchier than my precisons (all using TI flats - the 'tang has a 32" set), but I really love it for the super slim neck and excellent playability.
thats interesting to know that its deeper and punchier than a p-bass,sounds good!
-
err yea ok think i now what you are saying, it would i suppose sound very much like a p-bass because of the pup.might have to try one out,be like starting out again with a short scale bass!
-
am i right in thinking that the mustang is really a precision but with a shorter neck?
