Turn It Down – too loud behind the bar!
bassmansky replied to andrewrx7's topic in General Discussion
we had this in a pub before we even started to set up.the manager said "keep the noise down tonight because we had a loud band here last week"why didnt he tell them there and then to turn down?the stage is only a few yards from the bar so what does he expect! -
i cant get a reading on the meter must be a duff one!
I'd be very worried about the amp! Can you get access to a voltmeter/multimeter? If so, plug your lead in and , with the amp on, measure across the tip and sleeve of the end you'd plug into the bass. With the meter on a DC voltage measurement range (start on a high range and work down if no reading). If you see anything above a few millivolts then I think you've got a problem. If I had to guess it may be an input capacitor gone short circuit letting the pre-amp supply voltage (12v-ish) through to the pickup. Can't think of any reason to check the bass if it's totally passive thanks for that.but why would it do it to the squier pup and not on my jazz?have to see if i can get a meter from somewhere.

-
think markbass have had issues with there reliability as well in the past!little giant 1000 with the superfly cabs how light do you want!sorted!

tried the jazz through the amp no probs.must say the smell is hardly noticeble now when playing.if i get really close to the pup there is a faint smell even when the bass is unplugged.will have to see how it goes in the next day or two.under warranty so no worries.
I think there is already a thread about warm pups. I would suspect this could be something quite bad, if you can get shocks through your amp earthing via your bass, this would indicate such a problem would allow current to pass through your bass, in this case, if its going via the pup, it would get warm as a thin copper coil is very much like a heating element. I'd get a new amp. If they do just smell plasticy, does the smell fade, when it isn't plugged in?
the smell fades when its not plugged in.i will try my jazz through the amp but never had a problem before.
Don't worry what they smell like - did they get hot?
no dont seem to be.
-
just bought a squier cv 60's p-bass.started playing through my practice amp and after a little while could smell something like plastic getting hot.on inspecting the bass i found the smell was coming from the pups.i had taken the protective film off but ive never known pups to smell like that before.is something wrong inside?
I've got one and love it. Great P-bass tone, lovely neck and a cool colour too! I had gone in to get a MIM P Bass as I like my MIM Jazz so much, but the Squire just felt nicer to play i tryed a mim p-bass last time i was in there and thought it was ok,but no better than the squier and at least £150 more exspensive!

went into pmt just for a look around and had a go on a couple of squiers.first was the vintage modified telecaster bass.not a bad sound apart from the e string.that was as dull as dishwater.whether it was the string or the set up i dont now.probably a minor problem though.nice neck and looked good but not for me.next i tryed the cv 60's p-bass, which ive tryed before.well that was in a different league to the tele.lovely sound, great neck.superb vfm(£249)only thing i can fault is the tuners seem a bit on the flimsy side.anyway so impressed i bought it!could not really afford it but there you go.the manager told me that he expects fender to increase prices again in the near future so get in their quick!

bought this bass new in january 2008 and its seen a few gigs as it was my only bass.has the s-1 switching option which is hidden inside the volume control.lovely fast maple fingerboard which also makes it look better imo.their are the usual scratches on the back of the bass as well as a few on the front above the pickguard.no paint chips or other dings though.c/w original lockable fender hardcase which has a couple of light scratches on the lid.overall a lovely looking bass which is a joy to play.only reason im selling it is i am switching to a p-bass.l £580 part trades welcome. offers considered. p-bass type trade or amps 300w+ considered also neo cabs. this is for sale again due to non payment .

Finally compared the Peavey Tour450 and Trace heads...
bassmansky replied to andrewrx7's topic in Amps and Cabs
trace are loud for their stated power.i had an old trace 1x15 combo 300w and i dont think you would find many new combo's that will match it for volume.wish i never sold it,great sound imo. -

HELP - I want to play bass but i dont know what to buy!
bassmansky replied to lukethebassboy's topic in General Discussion
for the guitar buy a squier vintage modified jazz or precision,if you are lucky you can still buy them new for around£200/£240.go for a amp/speaker combined,(combo)this will work out cheaper.new you will be limited to what you can buy from the rest of your budget, plenty of practise amps around but if you want something now to gig with you really want a 300 watt combo.lots to choose from on here or the bay secondhand. try the guitar out first as you might not like the feel of it.good music stores will have a good selection of basses in your price range so try them all.the bass i recommend will more than hold its own gig wise.as for the combo everyone has their favourite so expect lots of reccomendations.mine, ashdown or older trace elliots .bit heavy to carry about though so be warned. -
I've got a Peavey Minx 110, and to be honest I doubt you'd find it lacking for tone or power. Great little thing! I was amazed...
+1 very loud!

squier vintage modified or squier classic vibe series are great value for money.although the latter might just be out of your price range.
