1. hi,anyone now where you can get replacement scratchplates from.want something different from the plain white or black etc.cheers.
2.
Cheers all, Went to Anderton's today and tried the Mark Bass Little Mark II and one of the 102P cabs. Fantastic piece of kit and the staff at Anderton's were really helpful. Decided to have a think before buying, esp as the two would have come to £1k, but really liked the Mark Bass sound. Cool, will listen to some new Stranglers stuff for the A'down. Do you know if they use that rig live? I saw them a couple of months ago and the bass did actually sound pretty awesome. Iain
mostly jj burnell uses ashdown gear has done for a couple of years or so.go on ashdowns web site there are a few stranglers tracks on there also you will see what other bands use ashdown.dont know what markbass after sale service is like but it would be hard to beat ashdowns!(if you ever needed it of course.)
3. i'll just put my usual opinion in,secondhand i would go for trace 300w 4x10 combo, loud, punchy but a bit heavy, but its the sound that matters at the end of the day not if you can carry it with one hand!either of the ashdowns i would say, obviously the abms are the better of the two hence the cost difference.sound wise just as mike has said earlier so i think the mag would suit your sound.saying that listen to the latest stranglers sound as they use abm gear as well as loads of other top bands.but for £800 the choice is endless.
4. the abm heads were made in the uk until march 2006 i believe.ive tryed both and must admit that the uk made one sounded better and louder they were both the evo11 model.i emailed ashdown about this and they said there should'nt be any differance.i might swap my prc one for the english model allthough its a year older!like other manufacturers they ship out to china to keep their costs down which in a way is not good for our economy, only good when youre buying one!
5.
They don't half have some suction as well don't they (I am sure there is a joke in there somewhere )
6. cant hear the fans on mine must be the tinutus!
7. i wouldnt go for the marshall personally dont now about the others though.if buying new then ashdown eb 15-180 evo11 would be ideal + £100 to spare!also ashdowns service is second to none if you ever needed it.secondhand i would look at a trace combo great sound and well inside your budget.
8.
+ 1 I love my rig but gotta say there are times I wish I had a combo for smaller gigs and rehearsing and this looks so sweet http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?ID=181
nearly bought one after trying one out but could'nt raise the cash at the time.pity cos it sounded awesome.
9. thought we'd all been here before on the ashdown wooliness!agree about the 15's but not the 10's,are not the majority of large 1x15 cabs a bit wooly?i know peaveys were.
10. ashdown klystron 2x10 combo!
11. i knew the manager well and he knew i was interested in a fender jazz which i bought so that was probably the reason he lent me one.
12. will have to tell him,i know when i had a guitar repaired sound control lent me a cheapish one, must have been lucky i guess.
13. my mates amp went wrong ,he took it back to pmt who said they would send it back to the manafacturer as it was still under warranty,ok so far,he was told it would be a minimum of two weeks so he asked for a replacement of some kind while his was away as he had got a couple of gigs and was told pmt's policy is not to give customers a replacement of any kind!is that normal precidure or are they out of order?
14. i would go for the 4x10 then you could add a 2x10 or another 4x10 if you wanted.couple of 4x10's on here at a good price.
15.
Youv'e heard me put a downer on Peavey cos Ive stated in this thread among others that I don't like them. As for EBS, Eden and Mark Bass etc its unlikely that they will be slated as much because for one: they are not used as much. The more lower & middle priced cabs and amps are going to sell a lot more than the higher end of the market so their are bound to be more comments about them. Secondly people who spend a lot of money on equipment are going to be more reluctant to admit they don't like them. I am not saying for one minute that Ashdown and Hartke are better than GK, Mark Bass, EBS, Eden or anything else. I am merely pointing out that its down to personal choice what you like the sound of. as for trawling through posts to see what other people think of them, thats pointless as I want my sound and not theirs
agree with you totally ,youre not going to spend loads of money on a rig and then slag it off.not seen many bad reviews on harmony central apart from the cheap gear!must say theres an awful lot of people who love marmite!
16. agree with some of what you say as for the abm's sounding wooly i cant agree on that more like classic vintage sound.i wouldnt call jj burnells sound wooly!
17. all seems a bit complicated!so bassists who have been using 15's and 10's together for years have been waisting their time and money and belting out a c**p sound?must get on to the manager of my local music store who tryed to flog me a 1x15 to go with my 4x10 cab then.
18. get down to your local music store and try everything but remember what you hear instore and out gigging or jammin is worlds apart.the old trace gear is better than the new(not just my opinion)so for £600 you could get a great secondhand rig, also lots of ahdown gear for sale on here as well as others if you decide not to buy new.
19.
Go on, just buy it. More speakers means more girls!
really!
20. christ if only you put this up 6 weeks ago and just down the road as well!cant justify having two of these though, good luck with sale.
