Budget s/h blues-rock rig that sounds good?
bassmansky replied to skankdelvar's topic in Amps and Cabs
trace 1x15 combo with a 2x10 cab,you should be able to pick both up within your budget as their are a few about at the moment.plenty loud enough and fairly easy to lift around. -
Wow - that is rather inexpensive - and I quite like SoundsLive! I'll have to think about that one. Obviously I've heard of Ashdown's unreliability but as someone else mentioned, it's always been about amps, not speakers. Apart from that, I like the look of the 2x10 as well. Thanks
i know a guy who plays a double bass through a mag 1x15 and 2x10 and has never had any problems with them so i think you would be ok.
Bear in mind Ashdown's reputation for reliability isn't much better than Behringer.
think thats a bit harsh!cant put them in the same league even the mag range which behringer try and copy!buy the mag 1x15 sorted!

I may be wrong, but Ashdown 'Woolliness'...
I only really notice the dull sound on my E string, and I wont go stright into swapping the valve just yet, but it was more of a general query. Could swapping the valve give me more gain, a clearer sound, different tone depending on what tube I replace the stock one with?
i would play around with the eq a bit more,i have to on mine as sometimes my d string is a bit duller than the rest, especially the lower i go.just a slight fiddle can make a differance! -

I reckon it doesn't. I know the original ABMs were badged as Ashdown Bass Magnifiers but this isn't one of them. Anyway, I contacted the seller to let him know but he says he can definitely see some sort of valve in there. Can anyone shed some light on it? Also, it's missing the front grill
should it be 4x10?bit pricey for that!
I was at the Isle of Wight festival this weekend and saw two Ashdown examples up close. The first was JJ Burnel's rig that was made up of four ABM 4x10s and two what seemed to resemble the Mark King Ashdown Labs heads but in black, not sure what these were. Also, the backline for the unsigned stage was two of the Neo 4x10s coupled with one of the Klystron valve heads. Both these rigs in a band situation sounded superb - crisp, clear and defined and put the masses of Ampeg rigs to shame. And I'm a fully paid up Ampeg Club member. I was very impressed and if I had to choose right now I'm preferring the Ashdown!
whats going on all these good comments about ashdown!
Love my Ashdown rig it beats my old SVT rig in every department, wonderfully full and defined with loads of grunt, it makes me smile every time I plug into it, and there's just something about buying British with huge cooperations and companies swallowing others on a daily basis one that is independently owned that makes great amps, and is based in a farm in good old Essex just makes me think 'Good work Ashdown'
could not put it better myself!

good thing we dont all like the same as the world would be a boring place!

am changing ampeg svt 4x10 he cab for the ashdown.dont like the ampeg sound, each to their own!why do people knock ashdown so much?is it cos they are british owned,as we tend not to back our own manufactures or what is it.not everyone likes ampeg(me included) thats the way it is just it seems only ashdown gets knocked on here.after all they cant be too bad as a lot of top bands are now using them!so yeah bye bye ampeg!

tryed a abm 4x10 cab with my evo11 head tonight and got complimented on what a great sound i had and that was from a fellow bassist!not a wooly sound whatsoever.just got to play around with the eq a bit,so its bye bye ampeg!also the ashdown cab is louder, result!
that would probably be the ampeg cabs, really does depend how the cab is tuned. though the ABM's do have a 'different' tone to the mag, certainly alot less bright and punchy
think you'll find ashdown and ampeg dont really go together,i cant get a great sound out of a evo11 head and a ampeg cab.trying a abm 4x10 out tomorrow night so will see what the differance is.
well how much you after? if i can sell some of my gear i'llbe pretty interested... out of interest what head would you recomend to use with it? i'm planning on selling all my gear and staring from a fresh you see. (obviously not the ampeg head!) ben
ampeg should go together i think if you like that sound.ive used a ashdown 500 evo11 head with the cab and i cant get the sound i want but to others it might be right,it sounded good in store but not so hot gigging.im trying a abm 4x10 cab at the weekend so if i like it thats what i'll have.£420 for my ampeg cab but it depends what i think of the other one but i dont think id keep it anyway.local store said they would do a deal with me as i have not had it long but if you got the cash its yours.
