  1. The neck through Epi`s are really good, I would go for the Gibson pickup version rather than the active version and if you get a good 2nd hand one then someone else has already taken the depreciation hit before you.
  2. I`m still waiting for mine to clear customs, it took less time to get from Australia to the UK than it`s taking to get from the South to the North East!
  3. I love my Alpher that much they're building me another 😁
  4. Latest update, i`ve found a chippy who sprays and will fill the bridge holes, rout the pickup cavities and spray it! Just wish it was out of customs now.
  5. Yup that was me 😀 As much as I`d like a pro paint job I can`t justify what Dave would charge for what is essentially a cheap kit bass, I built a Fender Blacktop Jazz a few year ago and wanted a vintage amber tint to the neck and he wanted to charge more for that than what I`d paid for the body, I know he does a first class job but it`s not practical on a £150 kit.
  6. Updates........... 1, The kit is in the UK took no time at all to come from Australia, probably take 3 times as long to get it 300 miles up north! 2, I have a painter!! Mate of mine who is also a bassist has his own vehicle detailing business and has agreed to paint it for beer 🙂 3, I have just bought pickups and a bridge for a ridiculously low price. 2x Kent Armstrong humbuckers for £10 and a Gotoh bridge also for a tenner, will be paying a visit to Howard for scratchplate and routing. If anyone has any info or a clue on how to wire the pickups can you drop me a pm, previous owner is trying to get a pdf off the schematics but info is always good. Pups are these bad boys and the bridge.
  7. Natural as Im no painter and have nowhere to paint it anyway so its going to be oiled although I have several stains available. Although if there were anyone on here who would be able to do a decent paint job at a reasonable cost i`d be more than interested as I`ve always fancied a white RD with a black headstock. I inquired about not having it drilled for the 3 point bridge but it would knock the delivery back 3 months so I left it (its a birthday present to myself and that`s 2 weeks time) , I`m toying with 1/4 pounders, some Ghost pickups or even just some Warman but then again I have no idea how good or bad the supplied pickups will be.
  8. Just taken a punt on one of the RD kits on offer from Pit Bull, always wanted a Gibson RD but can`t afford one so i`m going to build my own, not too sure about having it with jazz pickups on as per kit so I might see what I can come up with. I might yet see my friend Wilf and get something custom made, anyway I got the email this morning to let me know it`s on it`s way. Can`t wait!
  9. Trust me, fan fret is quite natural, i would give one a go before you decide thats if you can find one of course. I would still have mine but singlecut doesn`t really look very metal, I should have got the Ibanez srff805
  10. Are any of the fan frets within your budget? Ive played one ff and it does make a difference.
  11. I had a Spector Q5 and it was decidedly average, average pickups, generic shaped neck, only nice part about it was the black cherry colour.
  12. Go on then, I`ll have it, pm me your Paypal details please. Jeff
  13. Always fancied a double bucker Jazz myself
  14. The Warman MM style pups are monsters, I`ve had several including 2 in my Westone Quantum and I`ve just put a 5 string version in a deco HB 5 string ray copy and it`s transformed it.
  15. I got the MM cracking bit of kit for the money, I personally would say theyre better value for money than the Entwistle Neo pups, wiring was the same colour as the original pup but different so it was a bit of a faff getting both coils wired up correctly to the separate vol controls (im no kiogon) but once sorted its full and loud with a good even volume across all the strings. Me likely! Im still thinking about a new bridge for it as the original is pants, still, it plays ok and sounds ok.
  16. Ive put one of those adjustable nuts on my HB 5 String Ray copy, its perfectly acceptable as it happens.

    YOB

Do what I did, get a custom builder to build you a bass and have the serial number as your birthdate.
  18. Bought some strings off Tony, excellent comms and very prompt delivery, would buy from him again no problem. Cheers Jeff
  19. Could you not just buy a fretless neck for what ever bass it is?
