  1. It's something I was going to learn do to. To see if I could play differently but in the end I couldn't really be bothered with it
  2. I would like t have less injuries. I did both shoulders playing cricket (diving after the ball) and my back went ping a few years ago and I have to be much more careful. I'm 55 soon and have no problem with my age, I only really play gigs that I want to play. I have recently been depping for @spongebob s band, Heroes. I have enjoyed every gig with them and I would play nearly all the venues again, they were nice places with great people. When I was younger I failed an audition to join Bernie Torme's group. I let that get to me and never bothered chasing the dream, I think I should have continued chasing it, but I don't really regret anything. Life moves on, you've just got to go with it and try and enjoy yourself
  3. Supposed to be very good. I bought a Fender custom shop 62 from @walshy and it is awesome
  4. This popped up locally on Facebook 200 quid including gator gig bag. These desks are 650 quid new. I'm really pleased. I have a 22FX and 10FX. the 22 is too big for my 3 piece.
  5. Here's my old V Amp for sale. Owned for just over 22 years. Gigged quite a lot back in the day. I've just done a factory reset and it all seems to be working OK. A bit scratched on the top but has always been cased. I dont have the original box but it'll be well packed. Can post for a fiver I reckon
  6. My 80s duo (and band) often get asked to do stuff not from the 80s and often I asked if we do any Whitney Houston!!
  7. I'd heard Iain was on BC but didn't know who he was. Small world!!
  8. similar to buying a van, lights etc. A bit of a mine field isn't it. I am lucky in that I own a quality QSC full system. But as a singer, shouldn't I have a decent PA?
  9. it went very well. About 3 weeks later I got the call again as te bass had just detached a retina. I've now done 2 to 3 a weekend with them and will be until the end of July. It's certainly got my chops back up to speed
  10. I had a 78. One of my first basses and my first Fender. I loved it. I felt like I was going up in the world, I had a Fender!! I loved mine
  11. I joined an established duo, 1989. I didn't know most of the set. I had to wing it. I listened very closely to the first verse in each song, knew the key. There could only be a few notes in the progression. I worked it out as I went along. I became quite good at busking and have done many gigs like this. (but not for a while now)
  12. when I bought my '73 with rosewood board back in 1990, I already had a '62. I had some gear to trade and traded it and 50 quid. Little did I know that '73 would still be with me 33 years later. It was a better sounding and playing bass than my '62, so that got sold (550 quid, would you believe it) I haven't played a better P bass since. I have a bitsa that sounds awesome but doesnt play like my old one
  13. I'm proud to be using Ashdown these days. Awesome company
  14. it is. very quick and easy. I am going to do this, I just need a reel. (oh, we use them at work, I'll get one monday!!)
  15. I'm depping in a band and the singer has a hose pipe like drum for the mic leads. When you put another lead of the drums, you just plug it in to the last lead on there and wind. It is utter genius. In fact I'm going to adopt this for my rig when I have to mic everyone up (it's only once a year this gig, but the mic cables would be safe coiled this way)
  16. did you get this from Lightin the box?
  17. I'll be honest, they did sound very similar. All sat nicely in the mix. Once I would have stuck my neck out and picked one but I can't really tell. I thought 3 might be, but I thought 1 and 2 were too. I dont own any basses with the pickup in the same position as a P bass, so I have nothing to go by. I did have a rickenfaker, made from basswood, rosewood board with the pickup in the same place, but it was a P bass pickup. It did sound like a P bass.
  18. cool, where from. Mine need changing. I have a few sets of spares but would be interesting if there were cheaper, just as good alternatves
  19. without looking back thru the thread, I use Comply tips. You squash them down and they expand in your ear. Great isolation and they don't fall out (not yet anyway)
  20. yep it's all about the audience for me. My job is to entertain and if they're enjoying it, dancing etc The job's a goodun
  21. Where was Chris Stein?
