  1. it's worked for me on the couple of occasions I've done it '64 Hofner violin bass for £1700
  2. I had a revelation on Friday/Saturday I've been struggling the past few weeks with my IEMs. I didn't realise they were the problem, I thought my hearing was to blame. Everything seemed too loud and my in ear mix wasn't working It dawned on me after Friday night's dep gig that the seal wasn't very good I changed the comply tips, I've had the same ones for over a year All of a sudden, Wham! Perfect seal and a near perfect mix at Saturday's gig I am so happy
  3. standing in for @spongebob band 'Heroes' tonight Dover to Aylesbury, Dartford tunnel on Friday afternoon Spent a lot of time in the band van tonight, love the guys, they're so easy going and apart from the guitarist (Liverpool fan,) we're all hammers fans) Great gig, mod/sks/new wave. The HW 4003shines on some of these songs I've been away from home for 11.5 hours, got 240 quid and had a blast not about the money for me these days, it's about the adventure But it's now 03.57 and I'm still wired, supping a bottle of Rioja Sometimes I love gigging and sometimes I hate it Tonight was a blast
  4. I've left a few bands politely. 'Sorry guys, I have reached the need to change. I've been thinking a lot about it (etc etc) but feel like I'm done Totally happy to give you 3 months to find a replacement And I've always gone back to help them out as a dep (but these were gigging bands) We're all still friends someone said about not burning bridges and i never have but they are a few Winkers that I've played with that I wouldn't p1ss on if they were on fire. Should they come calling, Sorry I'm not available Life circumstances change and it makes me change how I feel doing certain gigs with certain people. When I'm work stressed I don't need the grief but when I'm not work stressed I can deal with it Just tell them and be honest. If they take umbridge, that's their problem
  5. nicely done Steve. How is the Stinger (I like the retrovibe stuff, I have one of his in my HW 4003, sounds perfect)
  6. I discovered the perfect gigs for me, as we came out of lockdown. We play a lot of upbeat dancy 80s stuff in my duo. There was the curfew and everybody had to sit down, no dancing. Audiences loved it and no one fell into us or spilled their drinks everywhere Also the gigs finished early because of the said curfew I now love afternoon gigs at the weekend.
  7. I've identified you as Strax from Dr Who Do I get a prize🤣🤣
  8. I spent the first half of a gig getting shocks from the mic AND my behringer P2 as it was touching my skin. I finished the 1st set with no IEMs and no backing vocals I then plugged my bass amp into a diffferent socket with my extension lead, not the DJs and problem solved I then bought the mains tester and have since used it at every gig (and not had any problems either)
  9. I have basses strung with both. This Friday I'm depping with a new wave/ska/punk band. Taking the HW 4003 with rounds for the tangy grindy stuff and a P bass with flats for the Madness/ska stuff Last Sunday I did a rock/blues gig with my JMJ Mustang with Fender flats on it. The perfect thuddery thump for the said gig My Hofner CT500/1 is strung with La Bella deep talking flats, slightly heavier gauage (can't remember what but they are too high tension for a whole gig. That said it's tuned to E flat atm and it's fine
  10. get yourself a mains tester, the one you plug in and it lights up telling you it's safe you may have a dodgy extension lead. I dep in a band where the guitar player always got a tingle from his mic. He doesn't now, it was a dodgy extension lead
  11. This first one is a couple of weeks ago, a band called Heores, new wave, mod , ska and punk. I'm depping here, nearly 57 years old The 2nd one is from 1988. A band called Roadhouse, we did literally 4 gigs a week for 18 months till I left. I was 20 in this band
  12. you are dead right mate
  13. Apart from playing my Mustang these days (weight, sore shoulders etc etc) I'm a P bass guy. I have 2 US ones , my 73 and a P bass special and a coupe of bitsas. One with flats the rest with rounds They all sound like a good p bass should
  14. I don't do the falling out with people but I do ignore them. I was in a band with the drummer kid from BGT and his parents. It was a really good band. They're conspirancy theorists (well the dad is) and I just ignore them when I see them the band didn't end well, singer's ego etc Horrible horrible people Got sacked by a band and the bass player didnt even come to the meeting. I was pleased to be going though, bass player had been ignoring me on gigs for a few months. He was very jealous of me, no idea why though. I'm not special or anything like that I', still friends with the drummer and singer though. Always have a chat when we see each other
  15. I have atonerider in one of my bitsa P basses. Sounds incredible
  16. And it sounded fab with the Ashdown cab too. I have some Ampeg grill cloth that I'm going to put on the Ashdown cab to make it match
  17. no I had a black one with white dots on it. Came from Livewire in Cardiff. It's also been owned by two other basschatters
  18. sounds good I think
  19. This journey, into bass playing? What made you pick up that first bass at the start of this long and winding road? You drive me crazy by Shakin Stevens. No idea why but I'd played violin since the age of 6 and my brother and Dad played guitar so I'd always picked them up. My brother was very supportive and helped me a lot when I got my first bass aged 13 (1981) Do you still have the same fire and enthusiasm? Do you still love it? No. No fire left in me now. I play in a couple of really good tribute bands with my mates but I actually get more excited about singing these days What has changed along the way? Your taste in music, taste in basses? Discovered Fender P basses about 7 years into my playing. Swapped my Manson 335 for a late 70s black with maple board P bass. There was the sound I wanted. Always played rock and blues, The Police and The Jam and Duran Duean were my biggest influences on my playing, and still are What was the first bass? And what’s the latest First bass was a Tempest SG thing (a Kay with 2 pickups) Then a Fender Musicmaster, Then a Manson Explorer. I've had Musicman, Custom built stuff, Rickenbackers, Vintage Fenders, Gibsons and currently rocking 2 Warwicks in the U2 tribute, Harley Benton PB50 in the Police, HW built 4003 in the Jam and a JMJ Mustang for the blues/rock thing. And my 73 P bass that I had for 35 years now
  20. I went to the unveiling of his staue in Dublin, 20 years ago. We then saw a Gary Moore styled Lizzy tribute that evening. Brush Shields made an appearance, Wheatus IIRC, many former Lizzy band mates came on too Many pints of Guiness were had that weekend
  21. I've ordered some gel type stuff to try but thanks for that. I've never thought of a diffuser but it's a great idea
  22. I have a couple similar to these but they are blinding, so dont use them much. But a diffuser would sort that out but I don't know where to get one time for a search
  23. purple tortex 1.14mm for me been using these for over 30 years now
