1. The doubler isolates your compressor. For the rest of them Gigrig do an Isolator. Isolated power supplies separate all the outputs of a supply so they are not all interfering with eachother. The distributors are basically daisy chains (although they are nice and neat). In my system i run my generator via a daisy chain into 3 isolators, a supernova, an evenflo adapters and a distributor (some pedals don't really like isolated outputs, but it's best to isolate if you can). I use a noisegate on my zoom ms60b to cut out the noise from my dirt pedals. How i set it was to set threshold to minimum (so it does nothing), engage all my pedals, and increase the threshold (without playing) until the background noise just stops.
2. Usually i would suggest an isolated power supply (might still help). The problem with diagnosing your specific pedals is: i) your compressor, compressors make the quite bits of a signal louder. This includes your noise floor (the background level of noise that is in every signal to varying degrees). If you have a particularly harsh compression settings then it is possible that the noise you are hearing is just the noise from the chain before it (even if its just from your guitar itself). ii) fuzz. fuzzes are loud, and famous for amplifying and distorting everything, including your noise floor. This is why alot of fuzz pedals include a noise gate after their fuzz circuit. This cuts out all the noise that is created when you arent playing. TLDR: So my advice is, try a less intense compression setting, try a noise gate after the fuzz, and try powering your pedals from an isolated supply.
3. Delay, reverb, bitcrusher, tremolo, compressor (ones designed for bass generally have better controls), noise gate, tuner.
4.
I never thought I'd say this, but I want a six string!
I was the same until I got a Deco 6er, thinking it would be a novelty. Edit: sorry for double posting, don't know how to multiquote on mobile.
5.
I really like the Jazzus, I reckon this would look great as a 6 string >> Eude
Wow that would be lovely as a 6string. Definitely something to consider.
6.
They've made loads! http://public-peace.de/index.php/bass-guitars/maruszczyk/elwood/6-string http://public-peace.de/index.php/bass-guitars/maruszczyk/elwood-absolution/6-string http://public-peace.de/index.php/bass-guitars/maruszczyk/elwood-europe/6-string http://public-peace.de/index.php/bass-guitars/maruszczyk/elwood-l/6-string I like this one in particular >> They've done at least one 6 string Jake too >> http://www.talkbass.com/threads/new-bass.966420/ Eude
I don't like the titled body on the elwood, but now I'm definitely going to look into asking about a 6 string Jake now when I get the cash together though.
7.
Brilliant thanks for that. I guess the synth & fuzz I can do on the B3 and have the Moog at the end of the chain, perhaps with eq after. I wonder is there any benefit to have my compressor at the start of the chain for a clean signal in? although I wouldn't use it all the time I guess. Also thinking of putting the eq at the end to control the overall mix. Also wondering if a crossover of some description is called for to send the subby sounds to FOH and not trash my speakers.
I do find that a compressor at the start of the chain helps tracking for synth/octave effects. A crossover is definitely worth playing with.
8. Ẁell the clasic (if there can be such a thing) synth sound from bass guitar is octave/synth pedal > fuzz > filter. use an expression/hothand to control the filter for sweeps. Alot of the fun in effects is in playing about with settings/order. Id use the example i gave above and work around from that.
9. Bitcrusher. Not sure what was the first bitcrusher pedal, maybe the Catalinbread Heliotrope or the Moth.
10.
Towel-rail GAS is a bitch!
It's always best to avoid bathroom related GAS if possible.
11. Just bought some festival tickets with paypal. Went through okay.
12.
We had a gig in a very small room where the band left enough room for about 5 people. I pointed that out but was ignored. Then the Landlord came up and laid down the law. We finally had about 20% of the original space, which was still OK. It was blindingly obvious to anyone with a brain. Unfortunately that band didn't have one!
well the IQ of a group is the lowest IQ divided by the number of people.
13. I guess if an artist didn't like a remix of a song, then PRS would probably be their only available port of call. I can't see how else they can stop someone remixing their song, the same way you can't really stop a band covering a song.
14. What about something like the NUX PML-2? This way you dont have to change your multiFX, you will still have to get a switch pedal, but you would have to get one of those anyway.
15.
Sorry for the delay. Still coming along - a few unexpected minor issues with MS pedals in the last little while. MIDI is definitely on the cards now. Can you give me an idea of your setup? The current midi mapping scheme can convert any incoming midi control message to any Zoom control sequence.
Currently i am using a Tech21 Midimouse for program change messages, then through my boss RC50 which sets master clock, after that i send to a midi splitter, and to my eventide timefactor, chase bliss pedals via modded empress midibox, and korg electribe. What im mainly looking for is patch change, and tempo sync of time based effects. I would also love to have a zoom unit at the start of my chain as dedicated looper if i could sync its tempo to midi. I would like to loop a short bassline, play about with effects and then record a longer loop on my RC50. Edit: im currently only have a ms60b (zoom pedals that is), but use 3 effects as always on tone shaping. With added midi support/extended utility, i would probably get a b1on as a dedicated looper, and either another ms60b or b1on for more effects.
16. How about something like this? http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/3mm-spiral-cable-wrap-10m-sj26d I had some that came with my gigrig isolators. They are a great job.
17. Try this guy out. He made me up a box for switching my RC50, just tell him what you want and hell build it for you. simple.
18.
Are you in a band? If not join one now!
This, or have you tried getting a tutor? And i would definitely keep going! I also had a slump 2-3 years into learning bass, it was about then when my progress started to slow. Keep at it though. I don't believe that 'bass not being for you' is really a thing. Playing bass is a skill, and like all other skills its something you have to learn and practice to master. sure, some people will find it easier than others (especially at the start), but everyone who is even an intermediately skilled player will have had to put work in to get where they are. so yeah, keep at it, remember that bass is awesome, and look into joining a band and/or getting a tutor.
19.
I got 5/10, but that's only because half the questions are about sh*tty new bands I've not heard of.
so metal bands? =P
20. 4/10 here by guessing. Statistically speaking you should get 3 or 4 if picking randomly.
21.
Are they single fx's?
Shouldn't matter. Unless the desired effect is to change volume temporarily (for solo etc.) all effects (both as part of a multieffect and single pedals) should really be set to unity gain (you can enable/bypass the effect and it should sound the same volume). Not keeping an eye on your gain structure like this can cause problems later on.
22. For those that have introductions/banter between songs, do you find this works better between every song, or should songs be grouped together in pairs (radio style)?
23. I would suggest a multieffects unit. That way you can try out different types of effects and learn what they do, and what you like. I'd suggest a zoom b3. For funk, the first type of effect I'd try is an envelope filter.
