1. Two new engines at $11-12,000,000 each. Yikes.
2. Which one-hit wonders that you love? You are welcome to interpret 'one-hit wonder' quite liberally:

A literal one-hit wonder such as Carl Douglas's Kung-Fu Fighting
A supernova type going from obscurity to heights of fame with a few hits and back to obscurity very quickly. Think Billie Piper.
A performer or band who were around for decades but are only really known for a song or two. Think The Proclaimers.
I'm going with Peter Schilling's 'Major Tom', I love both versions of it. A classical one: Blake/Parry 'Jerusalem'. Hubert Parry isn't a true one-hit wonder, but Jerusalem is virtually the only work of his that is still remembered and most of his output was roundly slated during his lifetime. Which one hit wonders do you like? Guilty pleasures or otherwise?
3.
All good experiences. I played in a band for many years which was mainly '90s stuff, some being a bit later but very much the same sort of sound. Most of the audiences we played to were of an age group of 30+ so Pulp, Blur, Radio Head etc. were very well received. Plus there's a massive amount of really good stuff to play from that decade so getting a great set list won't take long. As for bookings we had plenty. Pubs, weddings and even young farmers parties but could have played more (if certain members were more committed)!
What he said.
4. Would this be a good time to play Flight of Icarus?
5. That won't give them much Piece of Mind. Also sorry.
6. Private sales are tricky. I'm no expert, but I think that you have no recourse.
7. B 52s Rolling Stones Black Flag Guns n Roses Eagles Smashing Pumpkins White Zombie Led Zeppelin Scissor Sisters Alice in Chains That's 10 of them done.
8. There is very little that I really want aesthetics-wise in a bass, I know if I like one when I see it though. Otherwise my requirements are: Fan frets (I don't think that I can go back to perpendicular frets now) Active / passive switch Onboard EQ That's it.
9. I'm a huge Dingwall fan but am not enormously taken with the look of it. I might like it more if I see someone playing it, though. I bet it sounds amazing, though.
10. I am a very occasional pick player. I have to work very hard not to grip it too tightly, if I do my forefinger knuckle joint becomes painful. When pick playing, I mute the strings very slightly at the bridge to compensate for the fact that my fingers aren't free to do so. I sometimes play with my thumb instead of a pick to spread the load
11. It always amazed me that the metal scene, allegedly a bastion of heterosexuality, bought into the dress code of the Berlin gay scene. I understand that it was courtesy of Rob Halford. I would like to think that it was a huge practical joke.
12.
Our guitarist has the gear for music set that he seems quite pleased with except for the fact that when you give it a mono send, as out aux outs are, he only receives a signal in one ear. How would I go about fixing this? Could I rewire a stereo lead somehow?
This doesn't happen to me and I have the same kit. I don't have an suggestions, though.
13. I'm still in love with my The One, about 12 months after getting it. I've played a few other and nothing else has come anywhere near it in playability or sound.
14. I have the 2x10 model. It costs more (I think I paid £320) but it is a belter of an amp.
15.
This must be why you have three listed in your signature
Now, now. I have said elsewhere that I have recently moved to being a two bass man so I can keep one in the rehearsal studio. The four string is purely there for the convenience of conservative types at jam nights. Hence the rather broad price ratio between them of £10k:£1k:£40
16.
Is there a "cheap" valve amp that is worth looking at?
No. Nor an expensive one either. In my opinion they are best consigned to the past, but each to their own.
17. My father has no interest in any music outwith the romantic classical genre, which is fine. He is an excellent pianist who is aging fast and so his playing is suffering but his ability to sight-read is undiminished and is a constant source of amazement to me. Given the most impenetrable score which looks like black paper with a few white bits on, he can play it perfectly on first reading, albeit a little slowly. I really wish I had had proper music tuition as a child.
18. As I understand it, as we get older we have an increased probability of assorted things going wrong, deafness with or without tinnitus, cancer, joint problems, etc. How we live affects the probability of these ailments happening. I have very, very mild tinnitus in my forties and am taking all possible precautions against it getting worse any faster than is absolutely necessary.
19. It seems that Brian Johnson hasn't been looking after his hearing: http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-35751399 The band has a reputation as one of the loudest in the world. Guitar company Gibson said AC/DC's "Back in Black" tour reached 130 decibels, leading to complaints from promoters. According to Purdue, that's the volume of a military jet with an afterburner taking off of an aircraft carrier from just 50 feet away, and beyond the 120-decibel pain threshold. While the band's concerts are no longer quite that loud, they remain known for volume, even using cannons on stage for the song "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)." If Johnson doesn't perform again, his final show with the band will have been on Feb. 28 in Kansas City.
20.
Really interested in these mate. Do you put everything through them ? I know you're still carrying back line till you up your PA but do these things cope ok with kick drum and your bass ? We have enough PA not to carry back line if we went in ear but obviously they'd need to work with everything in the mix then. cheers Les
You would need to get decent earbuds as the ones they come with are a bit cheap and nasty, but once you have done that they'd take anything you throw at them. They are basically ipods, the hardware sends the signal and the headphones determine the quality.
21.
If your bass gets damaged in a gig bag, you've bought the wrong one. Cheap thin bags are not much better than a paper bag but get a proper one with full padded protection then it will take deliberate misuse to damage your bass.
+1. I have one of these: http://www.levysleat...bag-lm19pr-brn/ and my bass is completely immovable inside and the case is so squidgy that no knocks, toppling over, etc. can damage it. Serious damage occurs through shock waves / trauma so a hard case will not automatically protect your bass from anything more than relatively minor damage.
22. Bandmix can be good. Personally I get on quite well on Join My Band, too.
23. I recently saw a interview clip with Bruce Dickinson saying that in music you'll probably never make any money, so make sure that you enjoy yourself. (The wisdom of this advice was slightly undermined by him standing in front of a 747 in Iron Maiden livery which made me want to bash his smug brains in.)
24. A Jamhub can be so used to good effect.
25. For that money I could buy a 2005 Maserati. What to do, what to do....
