1. It would fool me, but then I don't know much about such things.
2. Can you take a photo or photos of your signal chain and post it here? I can't think of what else could be wrong but a picture might help.
3. I've always been a one-bass-man but my range of effect pedals has grown and shrunk over the years. I subscribe to the "if-you-won't-use-it-sell-it" philosophy. I have never regretted selling something.
4. What I find most I interesting about music industry analyses is that the vast majority seem to use a point in the past as a reference point and imply that it was a steady state. The music industry has never settled into one particular model and has always evolved rapidly in response to commercial pressures and technological advances and I suspect that it always will. The only commonality between different eras is people bemoaning how it was better when they were younger. There was concern over the decline of public performance as gramophones and 78rpm discs became cheaper and more popular. Then there was the same when 45rpm singles. This reversed as technology made large scale public performances possible. Then the period of naval-gazing re singles/album sales. etc. etc. ad infinitum. One could track technological/social development in the popularity of bass playing, too. A relatively unpopular instrument in gramophone and radiophone days as speakers prevented bass from being easily heard. A huge boom in bass in the 60s and 70s when speaker and recording technology improved so bass was readily heard. A slump in 80s as tinny Walkman's were in vogue, then a boom again as micro speaker technology improved further. Plus ça change
5. Professional standard swimming plugs might be a solution as they are designed to stop any water getting in, even when breathing hard.
6.
In the outro of Dire Straits' Money for Nothing, Sting does some backing vocals, including "I want my, I want my, I want my MTV" to the melody of "Don't stand so close to me".
I never noticed that they were the same, even despite having had to sing Don't Stand So.... and the high part of Money for Nothing years ago.
7. I think that these are the only double albums that I have. They all work for me: 1- The Wall 2- Cats 3- Evita Disallowed, but an honourable mention 4- Now That's What I Call Music 1. It transports me back to the early 80s and I love every song, however naff.
8. But then what would we squabble about? Oh, wait......yeah. Lots of things!
9.
Ok, So if I've got this right : Behringer XR12 (Stereo Keys, 2xStereo Vocals, Bass DI, Mic'd Guitar) - £259 http://www.gak.co.uk...qe8FRoC7pLw_wcB 2x Gear4Music or similar 3 pack : £120 (£240 total) to allow for one vocal mix (2 people) / one band mix (4 people) Stereo out from XR12 goes to PA for if anyone doesn't want to use in ears or to a recording device Drums let in acoustically because initially we'll have cheapy headphones. Would that work ok?
That sounds correct.
10. I would be nervous about buying one as every scratch or scuff would show.
11.
Barefaced certainly have their fans on here.... but, on the other hand... Let's hope this thread doesn't end up like most of the others!
Let us know how that turns out for you.
12. I was afraid I might see something like this
13.
We are a 3 piece. Drummer and me and guitarist and we both share vocals. We currently use wedges but was thinking going iem. Thing is we only play pubs so only use backline and just put vocals through PA. If we went iem just so we could hear the vocals and therefore sing better, would having the ear pieces in block out too much of the guitars and drums?
I used to worry about that. If you buy super expensive ear buds then I suspect it will, but I use relatively cheap ones and don't push them in too far so background noise gets in a bit too.
14.
RHCPs - Californication "And Cobain can you hear the spheres Singing songs off Station to Station?"
I never knew what the lyrics were there. Now I do
15. @Bassjim: Not argumentative. Our current PA speakers are 8" ones and struggle to do justice to the bass sound. We are going to move to bigger PA speakers, don't know which size yet but NOT a four speaker system as that would be as pointless as you suggest. We are working to minimise the size of our kit in every way. Link for the G4M IEMs. £120 for kit and 3 receivers. http://www.gear4musi...-Receivers/164T
16.
thanks colgraff..................so are you saying you never take any backline to a gig?
The singer/guitarist and drummer (e-kit) go through the PA. I use my rig because the PA is a bit small to do bass justice but when that is upgraded we will not have any backline.
17. I say yes. I have the super cheap Gear 4 Music ones and the whole band use them. Much greater clarity of sound, much quieter so no hearing damage. No monitors to lug around and so fewer cables and clutter on stage. I'd possibly argue that a pub band's need is greater than a 'proper' band's as pub bands generally have less space hence poorer acoustic management and more noise pollution to contend with.
18. I was rehearsing Radar Love this morning and was thinking about "Brenda Lee's Coming on Strong." I then started wondering about which other songs refer different songs by name in their lyrics. Do you know any? Obscure and cryptic references don't count. It needs to be an explicit reference.
19. Make sure that you select "Use full editor" as then you can edit the title as well. It took me ages to figure that out.
20. No you don't. You only need to if a venue at which you are playing asks for your PAT certificate. I've only need to produce a certificate twice in 20+ years.
21.
Not my cup of tea, however I would play country with no problem if it's a oro level band with a lot of good paying high end gigs booked. Blue
I'd play anything on those terms!
22.
I don't know, there have been a few country & western inspired hits in the UK charts in recent months, I'm starting to wonder if it may be the coming 'thing'.
The UK C&W scene is a bit like the UK heavy metal scene, it's hiding in plain sight but you won't see it unless you know where to look. I know a fair few C&W players who have made respectable livings out of playing in C&W bands. As a rule, the clientele are quite well-heeled and prepared to pay for a good band.
23. I did functions for several years. It is a lot of money but a long day. As Muzz says, people are generally in the mood for a party although weddings can be changeable - sometimes they just want to catch up with each other and the band gets in the way. Personally, I prefer pubs these days but that is just because I don't want to get home at 3am anymore.
