1. I thought it was quite useful on a Jazz, but it still didn't manage to get to a good enough thump. Though I did hear a few complaints about the button being "sticky". A push/pull pot would be a much better mechanism.
  2.
It’s the way the business is going now – lets hope that the Bass Gallery has better luck....
Let's hope so! TBH, I had good experiences at the Bass Centre. It is a shame, because between the Gallery and the Cellar (which IS pretty bad) I don't think there are other bass specialists in London. If there are... do let me know!
  3. Thanks again John. Left you a spot of feedback on your profile page so it's more public. A pleasure to meet you mate!
  4.
People look at you funny on the tube if you hum scales to yourself.
Just slightly OT, I was doing some rhythm exercises in my head on the tube, but must have been murmuring some of the beats. This couple gave me the most weirded out look anyone has ever given me. So I feel your pain.
  5.
Slightly off topic, does anyone else think that the Lakland Decade is one of the most attractive basses ever? I can't wait for the Skyline versions. I hope that's not just an unfounded rumour. Mark
I only reason I wouldn't buy it is that the front pup is too close to the neck of my taste. Apart from that, I remember being in absolute love when I first saw it. They didn't redesign the wheel, but they made it a hella a lot sexier.
  6. Like this... http://www.lakland.com/multimedia/ac_decade.htm Sound awesome!!! I'm still thinking about installing a pair of these onto my Jazz. A big risk, because it will involve routing.
  7.
See if you can borrow a bass with even more strings for the next time you play together!
That would be funny!
  8. Sliding thumbrest... what a nifty piece of design. I shall definately try one of these out when I see. Well written review mate!

    New Fenders
I know im being dumb here but can someone please point me in the direction of the P5. Cheers.
http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0190562706
  10.
The diary is king... first com, first served. Thankfully, both bands have a dep should there be a catastrophic clash...
Does dep short for deputy? Excuse me ignorance... just wanted to know.
  11.
For crying out loud - that's an ACM gig bag!! Is there no one on his course that could have a word
They don't make 'em like they used to. But that is ever so slightly embarassing considering the bass he's selling. Also... one more little thing. The picture seems to me that it has a Just-A-Nut II, but the seller must have just copied a recent description as it refers to the JAN III. But now I'm just being nit-picky. lol
  12.
That day's clear for me and no gig on the saturday either so I'll be less bog-eyed and knackered than usual. Room for a few more in my motor if anyone needs a lift. Will bring any of the following if anyone's interested but otherwise I won't bother. Lakland Darryl Jones 4 Bongo 5 HS Precision with Wizard Thumper EBS Classic V1 Pre = QSC PLX2 3102 Epifani 212 NYC
Oooooooh ooooooh! The Lakland DJ and the Precision + Wizard if you can manage both! Missed last years national and SE bashes. Nothing's gonna stop me this time!!!
  13. That sounds pretty tempting... would consider it mate but I'm off to see my former boss strip (well... burlesque really. But she does get her kit off. ) Do let us know when your next one is. btw... your stuff sounds great. Loving the groove in the bridge of Alien Nation especially.

  15. Thank God my other bands/project are all recording projects. I don't think I could survive 2 live acts. Actually I remember I was in two actively gigging bands for a few months. As well as working 9-5 at the time, this one week I had gigs for 4 evenings in one week. I was completely buggered. My boss remarked only on the Tuesday of the following week did I look anything resembling being awake. So my advice... unless you have a lot of free time... DON'T!
  16. EBS MultiBass II preamp DI box. Two seperate channels that can be run separately or together. Each channel has it's own gain setting. http://www.ebs.bass.se/2007/microbass.htm
  17.
Yeah, totally. I think it's areally good idea! There are so many things that are a lot easier to demonstrate visually than by writing on a forum. Maybe we should get a list together of useful topics or things that people would like covering?
Maybe quick lessons on techniques, and musical ideas or genres. And a pdf file to take home to boot. That would be awesome!
  18.
YAY! Bass Bash as the set-up masterclass was so popular last time, would anyone be up for doing one again? I'd find it useful to be setting up my own following the instructions as it happens.
That sounds like a really good idea. Surely other masterclasses could be held as well.

    New Fenders

The Fender website says the new maple necks have a gloss finish on the headstock and fingerboard, but have a satin finished neck. That sounds great!
  20. Hey there guys... just to even out the argument a little bit, by imposing a post limit you'll be limiting the choice available for basses. I believe the more items for sale, the better. The "well-stocked" marketplace we have is a strong selling point of the forum, i.e. 29 out of 48 said they used BC for trading. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10981 I mean, take Gumtree for example. It is a bog standard classifieds ad. If a guy posted an ad there like above, I would be a tad suspect. I think we have to remember that though this is a really friendly community down here, but at the end of the day we should treat the classifieds section here just like any other, i.e. friendly but with an air of caution. So in summary, what happened to this guy was not acceptable, but I do think that placing a limit like this is too strong a step and will limit the choice to innocent buyers as well as harming a large selling point to new members.
  21. I am a big fan of Whirlwind leads. Very well made. http://www.whirlwindusa.com/inst01.html http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll...ender+whirlwind This is a link to a guy in the US that sell Fender branded Whirlwinds. I've bought about 5 off him. These usually retail for about £25 over here, but I get them for about £11-15 inc p&p. They do take a little while to arrive (over a week usually), but it does represent a great bargain. If you are interested, bid about £10... no-one will bid over that.
  22. Damn, that looks gorgeous. Pity my New Year's Resolutions include no more new basses. Maybe I should stop going on BC for a while if basses like these continue to pop up.
  23. That is a bargain price! I used one before, and I was very pleased with it before I broke the damn thing (but only after a lot of abuse!) Have a bump on me.
  24. Just to let everyone know Alex, Martin and John are away at NAMM until about Wednesday or so. I saw a few poor sods who made the journey to get their basses looked at only to be dissapointed, and I didn't want any of you to be caught out. Luckily, I was only there to collect. It's still manned by a really nice chap whose name I didn't catch, so it is still open for business but the workshop is closed for the next few days.
  25. Sorry to hear about that mate... I've had nothing but great experiences trading on Basschat, but I guess it does lure you into a false sense of security.
