1.
So I feel guilty having them at home unplayed.. but they do look rather lovely hanging up on my wall. Well, I guess some people hang artwork on the wall.. I like people to come in and have a play on my basses.
I'm thinking about doing the same. I've got this gorgeous trans-era Musicman Stingray. Sh'es got the fantastic bird eye maple fretboard, and he generally just stunning. Problem is, I'm beginning to really dislike the 1.75" nut length and also I don't think it's tone is suitable for the current band and projects I'm in. But I'm reluctant to sell. Firstly, because she is easily the most stunning in my stable, but from past experiences Stingrays simply don't sell for what I think is a good price. So I end up just feeling guilty that it is not being played. I am thinking about hanging it, but I share my flat with my sister and I think she's against the idea. Hopefully I can find a good spot. I was thinking the toilet as I think the trans-teal would go great with the walls... lol. But I worry about rust and dust, etc.
 2.
I have done some gigs where people turned up expecting to use my amp and sometimes my bass. I've always dealt with it on a merit basis.
Wow... if someone did that, I'd tell them you'd better get a microphone and hum your parts. I did lend my bass once, quite recently, but the poor guy had electronic problems and I took pity. He was a top guy though, so I didn't mind doing it. Not like one time when I saw my mate's band. This other band had this really arrogant bassist. He broke a string, and then shouted to the audience "I need another bass now". I personally would have turned around and carried on with my pint and see the poor twat squeal until he said something along the lines of "please", but my friend picked up his bass and gave it to him.
 3. All I read was "leather over carbon fibre"... I knew it was pointless reading the rest. My wallet jumped away from me.
 4. Anyone know if it is possible to get the Live version on Jools Holland from somewhere. I've just bought Munia. Great album... much more diverse than I expected it would be. But I really prefered the version of Dina Lam on Jools.
 5.
Swap ya?
Okay then...
 6. If I had space... I'd release some serious amp GAS. The trouble is you can alway find a spot somewhere for a new bass.
 7.
I just want my flat to look like a bass store
That's precisely what I don't want... but I am failing miserably.

 9.
QI or not
lol... whoops! In my defence, that post was at nearly 2am.
 10.
... if that's yo thang on Joolz Holand right now on Dave.
Yeah... I saw it too. Absolutely fantastic! Dave is a fantastic channel. Top Gear, IQ, Have I Got News For You, Whose Line Is It Anyway... the list of great programmes is endless. I'm watching it right not.
 11. The band I'm currently in is the one where I cut my teeth on. It is an originals band, but the odd cover thrown in, but never done straight. It was really hard to begin with, though we're not a blues band per say the bandleader always insists on a jam for an hour at the beginning, usually a blues of some description. As I was never a blues bassist, I had to learn fast. I've really developed my sensitivity for dynamic, as he likes to vary things impulsively. Also, my relative pitch has improved. I have to pick up what he's playing pretty quickly when we're jamming. The bandleader and drummer are great musicians and have played together since they were 13 and 10 respectively. So I had to really up my game at the beginning. I feel that being in a bandleader-led original band, who is impulsive has given me a good edge when jamming. It has taught me to listen and be responsive to what's going on.
 12. I only thing I would recommend is getting a really nice screwdriver, especially one with the magnetic tips. Helps not wear away the thread of the screw heads. And obvious slacken the strings before you take off the neck. But I'm sure you would have done that anyway.
 13. I personally think it is a good idea. My guitarist uses a floating tremolo. When a string breaks, the tension changes meaning all the strings go out of tune. He then has to quickly change to his backup. With this self-tuning system, he can carry on after 3 seconds as opposed to a minute, which kind of disrupts the flow of the track. I do understand some people's thoughts that it is the lazy route to tuning... but to be honest, most guitarists who would invest in such an instrument would be able to tune normally. There are still a few people who say that using digital tuners is a lazy option. I mean, tuning by pitch fork is okay... but not in some circumstances, like a loud gig for instance. It has found its use. Just like that, this self-tuning system has its place. Say in a live gig, and you knock your tuners. It's much more preferable to auto-tune. If you play £100 to see a big band play, an out of tune instrument is simply unacceptable. Also, the alternate tunings do open up avenues that some guitarists may not have thought to explore due to practicalities. But the market decides a product's worth. I know it is an incredibly niche product, but the coming years will see whether or not the market sees a place for it. I personally would buy a bass version if I was gigging professionally.

http://www.answers.com/topic/bump-internet-1
To bump a thread on an Internet forum is to post a reply to it purely in order to raise the thread's profile. This will typically return it to the top of the list of active threads. Motivation Many Internet forums show as their first page a list of the 20-50 topics or "discussion threads" most recently posted to. Someone wishing to keep a thread on this first page, or bring an old thread back to it will post a reply to it purely to do this. If they are open about this, the post may simply be the word "bump". Netiquette Thread bumping is commonly considered a breach of netiquette and some moderated forums forbid it. Users may get around that by posting what is ostensibly a genuine reply. Sometimes this will mockingly contain the word "bump" in it, such as "Wandering the forum, he bumps into this thread...", or be a trivial question or response such as "Anyone?".
15.
Cheers s_u_y* that was very helpful. Monitoring was one of the reasons I thought about buying the kickback combo, LMII and small cabinet seems a better solution but more expensive. Ive heard good things about the Bull and Gate so thats definitely worth knowing about, thanks You have some lovely gear by the way, can I assume your not a student? Ive got an offer to study medicine which I am very pleased about
Medicine... nice! I do Biomedical Sciences with Physiology at UCL. 'Tis my last year, so I won't be seeing you around I'm afraid. My nice equipment comes from the many hours work I pull off by working during the holidays. Paid well. If you want some more advice, I'd be more than happy to give what I know.
 16.
I am hopefully going to UCL next year and was wondering what gear you need to bring to gig at uni? The university does have practice rooms and I am going to try and enquire as to whether you can hire backline, but particularly for gigs what do you all rely on? Ovbiously by HA3500 and 2x2x10s aren't going to fit in my room. Do most small venues in the capital have a PA capable of handling the bass? I'm tempted by a hartke kickback combo but a DI box would be perfect if I could get away with it. I would just be interested to hear what you guys take and do for gigs/practices. Thanks Chris
I believe there's rehearsal rooms in the student union. But I think it is more purpose built for the classical groups in the uni. Most venues have PAs. The purpose built ones usually can cope with a DI into PA. Venues which are effectively pubs with a 150W PA obviously can't. A bit of backline would be advisable though... the monitoring in a lot of venues is poor (even in one or two in the better venues I've played). A few of the more established venues and promotors supply backline and sometimes kit. I usually take just my EBS MicroBass II DI. But if I need to bring backline coz I know the monitoring is particularly bad, my Mark Bass LMII into my Epifani UL-110 cn be brought on the tube (tricky during rush hour though). Some of my favourite venues include the Bull and Gate in Kentish Town (great PA, and awesome monitoring), The Comedy Pub in Piccadilly Circus (great intimate atmosphere, and great PA for its size) and The Watershed in Wimbledon (Great PA and a very pretty venue as opposed to some of the crapholes I've played). What you studying at UCL btw?

 18. I have to say, even thought lead vocalist has an annoying look about him, I don't mind the Wombats. I quite like their tune Let's Dance to Joy Division.
 19. Quite interesting. The top on it looks really nice!
 20.
Any thoughts on such a choice or how to make such a decision?
I rolled a dice... thankfully it landed on 4.
 21. David bought my Hohner bass of me. A very quick and simple transaction. Paid soon after he said he would buy it. Good communication. Thanks again! Froilan
A Japanese Fender with basswood body. Much lighter in my experience. All my US Precisions come in between 9lbs and 9lbs 6.
+1. Really light.
 23.
If you're serious, I'd ask for advice on the dudepit. Only thing I know about them is that they aren't cheap ..
I got a quote from Fred Hammon, and I can stretch to the price including a quote for a routing job at The Gallery. I've heard numerous recordings on the Lakland site and www.basspickup.com, but I really want to try one out in person. I've been thinking about taking the plunge of this for a while... it is a big shame I missed the SE Bash Bash. I would have loved to try out obbm's Dark Star'd Lakland DD.
 24.
An example: we are about to release a product which is all passive and represents a combination of pickups and a 3 band passive EQ, with output about 3 times the volume of a P pickup.
I'm intrigued. How does a passive EQ work, or is it too early to ask about the product?
 25.
The band arent big really i should have asked them on the night but i forgot! www.myspace.com/zicochain www.zicochain.com If anybody wants to have a look!
They're on Kerrang and Scuzz quite frequently. The bassist has a seriously big sound! The music's quite good too.
