1. Not sure about what the Bass bodies were made of but mid 70s Antorias played and sounded great to me, Only one I ever had apart was solid orangey coloured wood, similar to my old Eros, I did have a Bitsa guitar for a while that had a really really nice Antoria Tele neck that was made of laminated pieces of maple, looked like really thick ply from the back. So you never know.
2.
The neck is straight right up to the nut on adjustment. The headstock itself is angled forwards - on mine the A string doesnt seat properly - not helped by the fact that at some point someone has done a hatchet job on the nut so the strings are sitting way too low. Looking like "they" may be VERY early Ibanez P copies - closest I can currently find is one called a "Kopy Kat". Only difference with mine is it has a "Wheel of Fortune" truss rod adjuster

The neck is straight right up to the nut on adjustment. Just hooked the old neck out of the loft and yeah, its got a forward tilt, Wonder why. Hadnt noticed that before I do remember Kopy Kat copies being around, little round badge/logo. thought they were a Woolies or catalogue brand.
3.
Thanks for the concern brancini, but actually one of the guys i was thinking of is head sparks at the theatre, so we should be ok... (and it would have to be checked over by him and PAT tested anyway)
I understand your point, but I think you'll find said sparkie is obliged to only use certified equipment. So dont forget to ask the insurance company and the fire officer if they are happy with you using a non CE certified power supply, built by the local sparkie, and connected to the mains, just so long as he puts a PAT label on it.... . For the sake of the cost of two 'Battery Eliminators' it just aint, imho, worth the risk.
4. Probably easiest to use two 9V PSUs with PP3 type connectors on them. Theyre cheap and you wont have any worries about safety. Last thing you want in a 2500 seat theatre is smoke setting off the fire alarm, or worse.... And then if it turns out to be home made or modified, you wouldnt be very popular !
5. Have a ring around some local re upholsterers. Comes in different grades stiffnesses and thicknesses. you'll probably find a small friendly firm that will help you out with some offcuts for a couple of quids.
6.
oddly enough yes it does! Did you're original neck have an odd forwards angle? Trying to find out if mine has just warped near the nut.
Not sure what you mean by forwards angle. Just got the neck out of the loft to have a look. Heres some pics of the Bass as it is now, and of the neck.
7. All the way from memphis, contraband version to please your 6 string bloke, or mott if you prefer. You wont like this, but, once pissed, everybody likes participating so they can shout out the chorus . So old rockers done up, such as great balls of fire - Feelgoodxs style, or Wooly Bully, Blockbuster, Cum on feel the noise, that sort of thing are always crowd pleasers late on.
8. I got a similar one, extra screw in the middle of the scratchplate, holes for a pickup cover and and a thumbrest, same bridge, same tuners, same hole in the heel of the neck - which I've replaced with a Mighty Mite Jazz one now. A good hefty (very hefty) Bass that plays well, Pups werent great, but I replaced them with Kent Armstrong vintages, Made a hell of a difference btw. I love it, but I've been trying to find out who made it for years. I thought it was a Hondo as well. If you ever do find out for sure, could you let me know ? Never heard of Musima myself. Edit.. Just a thought, but does it have a sort of plastic bung on the back of the body behind the bridge ?
9. Dont the square fret markers date it to early or mid 70s then ? Didnt know they made hollow bodied ones.
10. Anybody who remembers 70s Antorias would probably agree. This might be nice if the price stays snsible..Certainly as good as some of the Fenders were at the time. http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1438.l2649 Didnt put it in Japcrap thread, Not sure where they were made.
11.
We've got an old copycat somewhere, and had some fun dealing with Charlie Watkins in the 90s, he was a great character!
Yeah, thoroughly nice guy, couldnt help but like him.
12. Bought my MIM P unseen, MIM hadnt been around long back then, Still got it 20 twenty or so years on. Perhaps I was just lucky though.
13. Finally got around to refurbing my old Bassman. Trouble is, last 2 and next 2 gigs are miles away with back line already there. I'll get round to using it eventually. Sounds great here.
14.
Thanks for replies all. There were two hotels at that location, both had cctv which is good, but neither would let us access any recordings at the time. They insisted we wait until normal working hours,(Monday).
Seems to happen a lot, usually citing the DPA, which is bullsh*te. And with the M6 only being just up the road, it could be anywhere in the country whithin hours. If you noticed it quickly amd got a description of what they were driving you'd have at least been in with a chance,, Old bill might have been more interested as well. I wonder if the tyre getting slashed might have been to prevent you following them if they were disturbed. Sickener, just the thought of losing that much gear...........
15. If your still after some, I reckon you might get it for the best price at an upholsterers, or a carpet shop. Failing that, screwfix or Toolstation do it for about 4 or 5 quids. Places like B&Q are just too expensive.
16.
Aqualung and quite few other Tull songs.
Wasnt that about molesting little girls ?
17.
Excellent, thanks very much for clarifying this guys. I am buying a 4 ohm cab, as it's lovely, great price and a good size for small to medium gigs, but as it's only a 1x12 there may be times when I'd prefer to add a second cab, but my amp doesn't go down to 2 ohms.
Well, If the second cab was a 4 ohm 1X12, you could add it in series, total would then be 8 ohms. I woulnt expect to notice a huge difference in volume, though.
18. Make sure you know up front where the money is going, ie is it an even split, or more for whoever books it / owns the PA etc.Even if its just a pub band doing one gig a month. A mistake I've made twice, once cos I was a bit green and hadnt made sure, - one a local band where the one guitarist and the singer thought they were the stars, and the singer owned the PA, the drum kit, transit and we used his factory unit to rehearse. We seemed to do a hell of a lot of freebies or very cheap gigs on his 'turf'. Two whole years of 2 or 3 gigs a week before I accidentally collected the dough myself at a regular gig. Turned out I wasnt the only one who had been kept in the dark Since then i always make sure.
19. I lean min against my cab, biggest worry is that the strap button slides across the floor of its not on carpet. Another use for one of the bar towels I seem to collect.
20.
Or one disgruntled ex-guitarist. You don't need an expensive accountant, they don't want to see a box file of receipts in April! If you don't have the time, which is unlikely, you can always use a bookeeper. Set up a simple Excel document to record income and outgoings. Claim for everything and that's the beauty. Do you spend 3 hours a day rehearsing in a bedroom? Electricity, heating, water, rent etc are all expenses related to your music business. Not to mention the strings and petrol.
Not sure if you can do this with a part time occupation. I'm sure sombody on here will know more. If your wifes not working, she can do all your books polish your Basses, and answer the phone etc. And you can claim for her wages. long as you dont pay her enough to have to but a stamp theres little or no paperwork, and no checks to make sure you actually give her the cash..
21.
Nice one! I've been sorting out various fuse ratings for conversion of USA to UK running (different bit of kit) and I know that the voltage had a direct relationship with the amperes required for the fuse rating so wondered if there was anything in the actual power output figures (you know what sellers are like at quoting the best figures that they can ).
Only the mains fuse rating will be different. Any fuses on the secondary side of the transformer, or DC fuses will be the same. As a guide, halve the mains voltage = double the current & vice versa.
22. All the way from Memphis would be nice, theres a good cover version on youtube with a female Bass player, cant remember who they are now though. and some really great Mott the hoople live versions on there of course. Been playing with tribute type bands and Rock n Roll bands the last few years though, so seem unlikely I'll get to do it, at least not for a while.
23.
I've always wanted to play Mustang Sally, but none of the bands I've been in would do it. In fact, when I mentioned the possibility I was the victim of a torrent of abuse
I used to get that with Brown Eted Girl and Akight Now.... Not.....
24. Blockbuster, I reckon it would make a great opener or closer. Werewolves of London, but never managed to find anybody who would sing it. and this. Although I have played it years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzgDz04bv38
