1. Funny nobody has mentioned Keef Richards. Stuff like JJF & Midnight Rambler just wouldnt be the same done by anybody else.
 2.
How many bands have had their sound dominated by a single guitarist in an original way, obviously Hendrix etc but how about Dr Feelgood, Wilko is a great player with style and is still going strong, he is no great singer but his guitar speaks enough !
Have to agree, but a lot of Feelgoods songs were best live and with the original lineup cos of J B Sparkes Bass lines, nothing flash, but still underrated in my humble, Not so much with Shouldnt Call the Doctor but if you watch the rest of that concert video theres some great Bass lines on it...
 3.
Sorry if its too obvious, have you tried somewhere that mixes and sells car paint ? Jawel Paints for example.
4.
I used to use lighter fluid before the advent of switch cleaner.
lol. I remember trying meths once cos it was all I had at home, was working on an old valve tape recorder which was powered up and running at the time. Trickled a few drops onto the big long record slider switch, pressed the record button and the bloody thing burst into flames.
 5.
There are a few servisol products, not all have lubricant. Whichever of de-oxit or Peavey funkout the Subthumper uses does leaves a residue, as sprayed some in a cap for dipping, and it retained an oily film. I jsut looked, I have Servisol Super 10, says lubricant, but is doesn't leave much residue, I think the IPA100 or similar is the no lube one. ED40 does bad things to plastics, not sure if it is the oily part or the solvent part though, pretty bad news for your fingers either way.
Unless pots have changed since I last bothered to take one apart, they have silver plated contacts where the slider connects to the central slip ring type arrangement. If you dont put some sort of lubricant/coating on it the silver tarnishes and the pot crackles. Its not always the track. I started as an apprentice in the late 60s for a firm that would and did repair just about anything there were a lot of older engineers where I worked who still liked old methods, so silvered contacts were cleaned with metal polish and smeared with vaseline, The equivalent to servisol super 10 was around, and was use liberally by others to clean pots. Same with valvebases, older guys would use a penknife and scrape the pins on & valvebases, and tighten them with a needle as well, younger ones just squirt em. I was lucky, i aquired a few skills and learned to improvise with [s]bodges[/s] modifications that a lot of engineers my age, let alone younger ones, would never think of, or would certainly frown on, . btw, dont use servisol on slider pots, makes them stick and feel orrible to use.
 6.
Oil and WD40 have a real bad side affect. they attract dust and dirt and leave something nice for it all to stick too.
And the lubriant in Ambersil/Servisol/2GA/Maplins own brand etc doesnt ?? how about the lubricant thats put into the pots by the manufacturer, yknow, the stuff that dries out and makes the pot stiff to turn. Mineral oils might attach the plastics used these days though, older stuff didnt have so much plastic, pots were gunmetal and paxolin, with a cadmium plated back,
 7. One Christmas at a gig in Nuneaton, there was a 7 or 8' Christmas tree at the back of a fairly long stage. Guitarist in that band thought he was Wilko, right down th the Tele, long red curly lead liked charging about etc. You can guess the rest............,
 8.
We recently had a discussion in repairs and tech about fret finishing, regarding wire wool techniques, it is a valid one if you do it right. Oil in pots is always a no though, especially WD40. Putting WD40 into electronics is bad, and happens too often.
A little, very little, very light oil on pots was the old school way back in the days when switch cleaner was just that and didnt contain lubricant - more likely Trych , Might be meant as a figure of speech anyway, said it my self often enough. It is old school though, I've even seen older engineers rub a pencil over the track ( works a treat as a bodge for knackeredpots btw ) WD40 does have its uses in electronics as well, but not usually in amps. It does what it says, Displaces Moisture, thatsa what WD means..
 9. Dare I mention Short People by Randy Newman ?
 10.
We don't get any more requests for Anal **** on the wedding circuit anymore.
Perhaps your playing at the wrong kind of wedding do's..
 11.
Daily Mail readers - especially if you're of Eastern European stock as well.
Looked at that way, there are tose on here who would complain about Knees Up Mother Brown. And as for I've got a looverly bunch of Coco nuts....Well.
 12. Something. If you want something drippy with a good bassline to end the night / send the punters to sleep, depending on how well you do it. Not one you hear much nowadays. Went down well when we used to do it, even though I used to murder the bassline cos I couldnt quite pull it off. But that was about a hundred years ago now.
 13.
Anything by Gary Glitter, and Spasticus Autisticus by Ian Dury and the Blockheads. I was listening to that one last night and wondering the same thing.
Not many people qualified to sing that, but if you are - who's to complain ??
 14. Git Back. If only couse theres plenty of room to play around with it without changing the feel.
 15.
I was thinking about it today....and I'm almost certain my middle aged angst completly trumps teenage angst. I wanted to go out and write an EMO album entitle...Teenagers, you don't have a clue what life has in store for you.
Yep, would be great to be 18 again with all them worries wouldnt it ?
 16. Loads you woulnt sing, I wouldnt have sung whn they were new. Stones, Stray Cat Blues for nstance. Diferent times dont justify images like these .....
 17.
this disturbs me
Didnt sing it, didnt listen to lyrics. Same singist wouldnt sing Turning Japanese for some reason.
 18.
We were rehearsing 'Getting Better' by the Beatles this week. Lyrics; - "I used to be cruel to my woman I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved. Man I was mean but I'm changing my scene and I'm doing the best that I can" It was a different world then.
Wonder if Heather Mills would agree. At my age, theres loads of standards I wouldnt want to play for one reason and another. But they are just songs really arent they. Nobodys mentioned Memphis by Chuck Berry...Often wondered whether it was meant as a dig at Jerry Lee. And why Elvis never got slated in a similar way for moving 14 year old Priscilla in to live with him.
 19.
Did anyone actually play this anyway?
Yep.
I've always thought "Claire" by Gilbert O Sullivan and "Save your kisses for me" by Brotherhood of Man were a bit dodgy - "Even though you're only three" ???!!!
Aww C'mon they were, or seem to be meant innocently. Theres not a paedo on every corner you know.
 20. For a start I'd drill a hole at the end of the split to top it getting any worse. Airfix glue, but it depends on what type of plastic it is, its much like using solvent really, as from my youth I remember the plastic in Airfix kits used to melt a bit.If uts something that gets hot its unlikely to be the same type of plastic though I reckon.. Or if you can find some scrap bits of the same type plastic, weld it....Fumes can be a bit dody though, so I'd do it outside if I were you. Re inforce it by melting in bits of stiff wire, or a plate with holes in it.
 21. Depends on the plastic probably. Years and years ago i worked for Scrivens as a hearing aid engineer. The behind the ear and in ear aids were in sealed pink or flesh couloured plastic cases which we used to cut off, then after repairing the electronics or whatever, fit a new case which was in two halves, by painting the edges with a solvent then pressing them together and the polish off the excess plastic, Different models needed different solvents though, cant remember all of them, but one was Methyl Ethyl Keytone, one was just Acetone, another was ( I think) Tri clorethyline. Trouble with gluing plastics is that the glue need to flex, or not,in the same way as the plastic. There are firms around that repair car trim and bumpers, by welding the plastic, dunno how the process works but it does, and you cant see the join. Just wondering whether its worth you trying one of tese firms. Or could you use screws and nuts and fit a plate behind the crack ? The car repairers option seems like the best bet to me though.
 22.
Thanks, but which place?
Sorry, edited it out for some reason. http://www.accordioncentre.co.uk/ Might be worth trying Hobgoblin as well. Theyre in Digbeth, but have branches all over I think.
 23. This place is still going, Theres a price list to give you an idea of costs etc. They'll fit internal mics for you as well, or at least they used to. Mate of mine at the time used to play in those German Bier Kellars that caught on in the 70s, and as has been said they sure aint easy to mic up. For what its worth, he made a bloody good living playing Knees up Mother Brown and stuff like that. Made me wonder where I went wrong sometimes.
 24. Thanks, I'll give the Hockley one a try I think. I'm over that way now and again.
 25.
Can anybody recomend someone in the Birmingham-ish area to set /Tweak up a MIM Precision. I dont mind travelling a bit if i means it will be right. Always done my own , but just cant get this one so I'm happy with it now.
What -- - - Nobody ??
