1. One little point. Anybody else noticed that if you put a woodscrew into the nozzle of PVA based glue bottles, or No Nails tubes, they corrode quite badly. Even plated ones. I'm not sure if it will still happen with dried glue. Just a thought, but a corroded screw you cant get out, or that snaps off might cause problems.
 2.
Suede jacket, desert boots, originals..... Want to try again?
OK, Suede jacket, desert boots, originals, perhaps I Should have gone to specsavers. March 1970 ? I wore similar clothes to that around then. ,
 3.
Guess when this was taken.......................
Denim Jacket, Moccs, but not flares, Pork chop sideboards. . May 22nd 1971 ?
 4.
. If those guys could see us now eh, what a bunch of pussies we'd look. I wonder if, as we now live in a more materialistic world compared to then, there's not more of an obsession about the gear than the music itself? Perhaps it's less to do with age but more to do with the age we live in.
Yeah, beat up gear does seem to be a thing of the past, even with old gits. I can remember getting funny looks in Jones & Crossland - Who remembers them ? - years ago for trying to get a Marshall logo to replace the broken one on my SL100 even a few comments about do I want a tin of Pledge to go with it ? You have a point about it seeming to be more about the gear, at least with some people. Getting a bit like some of the Hi Fi nutters I used to have to deal with, I swear half of them listened more to the quality than to the music on the records they were playing..
 5. 1200mA rechargeable AAs are 2 for a quid at Poundland, and you can get holders from Maplins for not a lot.
 6.
No 6 Plain - haven't seen those since 1971 I think.
Yeah, well. Couldnt find a blue packet. you get my point though. Works with Marlboro packets as well....
 7.
I hope he means business card ... or credit card.
No, a torn off bit of one like this.
 8.
I'd call 2mm at 12th fret a low action, I prefer a bit higher, 3 to 4mm and about 5mm on my fretless acoustic bodied. I agree with the comment about better tone with higher action - couldn't prove it though.
Is it better tone cos of the string height, or just that you pull the strings harder I wonder. I doubt if I could even play a bass with 2mm. thats for widdly widdly guitar players.
 9.
Just checked mine at the 12th fret, £1 coin slides under just touching the string slightly as it goes.
Same here, £1 coin, and thickness of a fag packet relief. Can be a bit klanky though, especially with new strings.
 10. I think mostly, apart from the image thing already mentioned, its the re sale value. Where at one time if you bought new, which I couldnt afford to do, the old kit went back to a shop as a part ex, or just got sold cheap. So by the time the likes of me got it it was battered, stencilled, and horribly bodged inside as well usually. But now we have ebay for re sales, and it seems, at least to me, either young kids financed by doting parents, or old gits spending their redundancy buying new.. I dont mind my kit getting accidentally battered, or worn - long as its me that does the damage.
 11.
True, I meant just a regulator circuit. Another thing to consider is shielding of the signal wires.
+1 for a requlated supply, How about using two 12V batteries in series, regulated at say 15 or 18V. that way your battery volts can drop off a fair bit before you notice any ill effects. Or two batteries as above with a 24V to 12V converter like what truck drivers use. Have a mooch on ebay etc, loads of class D output boards and kits around last time I looked, simple pre amp from Velleman or copy something commercial using a couple of 741s or 4558s. Cant see screening being much of a problem, no mains on a beach / no AC = no hum problems, inverters, or DC-DC converters might radiate though.
 12. Not really an antique I know, but would somewhere like Christies help value it ? I would have thought it was a daft question as well, but I kid you not. i know somebody who approached them to value a late 90s japanese Strat, that had been signed by Brian Adams, and they werte more than helpful. What you got to lose ?
 13. One like this any good ? http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/product/CONCENTRIC_POT_500K_WITH_CHROME_KNOBS_CP500CR
 14. I'm self employed, run my own place and have for years, rarely take breaks, so it doesnt really apply. But when I worked for firms, I avoided taking a Bass or Guitar case to work whenever possible. theres always some wag who has to call out 'Give us a tune then' or some other wiity line they think you never heard before. Just gets tiresome after a bit.
 15.
I've never ever had to tweak an SGC Nanyo made Bass Collection ever, other than when changing string gauge or type (i.e. roundwounds that were on my fretless when I bought it were changed to nylonwounds). Or even have to retune one.
Yeah, its been great, Had it 20 years almost, and apart from replacing the crap pups its never been touched. Nothing I've ever owned in that time has come close. Just not right for the stuff I play nowadays, and I wish it would growl a bit more.
 16. These seem to sell well on Ebay, But Thought I'd try it on here first. Belonged to a friend who died recently, I am trying to sell it as a favour for his wife. It hasnt ben used for donkeys years. Has a Co Ax Plug on it, and a Co Ax to 1/4" Jack patch lead. I think he use a pre amp or a matching TX with it. Plugged into my Hartke Rig it seems fine as it is, but would be better with a matching tranny - I might have a 50 Ohm matching tranny if your stuck. On ebay they seem to fetch £80 - £100 ish, so feel free to PM with any questions or make her an offer.
 17. Thought this was goint to be a thread about a Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac number. Not something I've noticed before but my MIM Precision is buzzier than usual, too my Jazz/ P Bitza out of its case and the action is much higher at the 12th than it was, and its almost a quarter tone flat. Hope a truss rod tweek later cures it. or at least cures one of them, got Gigs tomorrow and Monday. My old Bass collection 301, which lives by the settee is still fine though.
 18. As been said. A precision, a lead, a Fender Bassman Head and a 2 X 15 Cab. The rest is in the fingers.
 19. Steve Gibbons, Eddie Vortex. Classic Rock n Roll circa 1976. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nb_NYVv2P7I Dave Edmunds, I knew the bride. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sms2ueBW5A8
 20.
Johnny Marr?
Definitely Johnny marr, the only really goood thing about the smiths tbh. How about The Pirates, Mick Green ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QEQCWAjXFI
 21.
I suppose there is a use but you can't really cut it to a smaller size.
Why not.?? Just needs a little imagination, and some side cutters, or if you prefer, a junior hacksaw. You can buy smaller sizes, you can also get it without the screw holes.
 22.
I dont mind the veroboard stuff, but that is some strange looking stuff in the ebay listing....
Its great with op amps, use it like vero, but no need to cut the tracks
 23. Somethink LIKE this. Run a small amp from a car / car battery. You can get inverters pretty easily, Maplins do a good one.. I keep one in the car for charging my drill or for my mains soldering iron. cheap and still useful afterwards. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300W-12V-DC-AC-220V-Car-Power-Inverter-USB-Adapter-/310315137996?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4840393bcc
 24. Mind if I stick my oar in and suggest using this stuff instead of Veroboard ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160499593193?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 You can get it at other places, the link is just a convenient example. Even perf board - the Vero type stuff without the copper - is better than Veroboard. I hate the stuff.
