1. Its all entertainment isnt it ? If you want perfection, then I guess rock n roll aint your thing. Mate of mine made a reasonable living for years playing accordian in a German oompah band, sometimes playing sets of stiuff like Knees up Mother Brown, he even dressed up in lederhosen and a little hat wth a feather in it. a good laugh, and it went down well. But you wouldnt go home and play the records would you ?
 2. Did a door money gig once at what used to be a large and popular pub gig. There was a fairly big stage, a really nice hired PA with an engineer, door security etc. What we didnt know at the time was the promoter had quit a few weeks before. The gig which was booked months and months before hadnt been advertised at all. Not even a poster in the pub, even though we had supplied them a month before the gig. There were two punters in, neither of who had paid as they were mated of the landlord. Didnt even bring a dog Most of the regulars thought they had stopped putting bands on. Just have to be philosophical about it and treat it as a rehearsal. Shyt happens.
 3. ebay will withdraw negative feedback if you threaten legal action and they think you mean it. Had it happen. Although 100% positive feedback doesnt actually mean there are no negatives. Theres a negative on my account, left by someone who tried to rip me off and failed a couple of years ago, ebay wouldnt remove it, but with a little over 100 feedbacks. it still says 100% positive next to my name. Personally, I dont set much store by feedback, and couldnt care less. How about we collectively bombard the listing with stupid questions about whether its been reliable, stuff like that. Only nuisance value I know , but gets a bit of your own back.
 4.
(plus some rather nasty 70s porn star 'tashes going on)
Nothing wrong with nasty porn star tashes, had mine since, well - the 70s... Probably right about there beins somethinge else going on that you aint been tolds. By blaming it on your weight, they must know theres nothing you can say, and by upsetting you theyre burning bridges as well probably.
 5. Theres all sorts of tribute acts, some good, some not so good. But tbh, theres not much difference between a tribut act and covers bands that all play the same stuff is there really. Personally I cant uderstand the attraction of seeing somebody dressed up as you hero's unless its done a bit tongue in cheek. Certainly not the all weekend camping out type mock festivals such as Glastonbudget etc. Loads of tribute acts, almost all of em doing it for nowt even though tickets are about £80 so i believe. Anybody around the black country next weekend gets the opportunity to go see this, free..
 6.
Simple reason - record company control freakery. They picked on an contentious issue to see how much the rest of the band wanted to 'bend over' if you'll pardon the expression. Now they know they'll conform to any and every demand, A&R will treat the entire band as their bitches and they will do whatever they like. They are utterly screwed.
Maybe not yet, but they probably will be. Finding some way to show that they have the upper hand early on is common practice isnt it ?
 7. Have you seen the deal they actually signed up to ? Just a thought, but one day you might be glad your out of it. Every cloud, when one door closes a window opens etc.
 8.
They told me when they kicked me out. No pussy footing around, they straight up admitted it.
Refreshingly honest. Not like the cobblers bands usually come out with, either to spare feelings or avoid a slap. I'd take it on board, but dont let it get you down mate. You are what you are.
 9.
I should keep an eye on PRS If I were you. It's not unknown for songs to be registered in someone's name without all the others who contributed to the process getting a credit. You can raise a dispute with PRS which will put any royalties on hold until the dispute is sorted out. Sorting out whether your contribution was significant is a whole different kettle of fish though.
Yeah, definitely. The hold up might even give you a bit of leverage at some point. Theres a line berween helping to write songs and being a co - writer though..
 10. Sounds like a deal to me, especially if they will let you store gear there as well. Had a similar deal with The Tardebigge out by Bromsgrove in the late 70s. I think they went off the idea when they realised we were a 'new wave rock n roll band' and not a covers band doing Tie a Yellow Ribbon They kept their side though, even though we rehearsed 3 times a week, I dont think we ever got round to doing the free gigs come to think of it.
 11.
Fiberglass insulation is a big scary because the vibration makes it shed fibers of glass, which fire out of the port, and are a bit unhealthy.

Stuffing is for sealed cabs, lining is for ported cabs. The only affect it should have on the top end is smoothing out the ugly bit where the reflection from the back cancels the output from the cone and gives notch, and a bump where the opposite happens. Marshall were historically big on cheaping out, so it would be more they wouldn't do it if they could get away with not doing it.
Yeah, see your point. The old coarse fibre glass stuff might be a bit dodgy. Didnt mean for ported cabs though.
 12. Dont laugh. No pleasin you by Chas and Dave. Just feeling the need to slow down, all I been playing lately has been fast rock n roll.
 13.
Haha just got it..
Hee Haw, Haw, Haw...
 14. what happened to using bits of loft insulation ? Seen carpet used as well, add weight but does the job. Just thought I's mention it for anybody who wants to experiment.
 15. Third World War II. I'd forgotten I had it but was looking through the old vynil. a bit dated but I still like the feel, especially Coshing Old Ladies Blues. Terry Stamp got a great Rock n Roll voice. Always sounds like his mouths watering http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjiArh7VPeI
 16.
A lead lead!
Thats just for Heavy metal.
 17.
Maurice Micklewhite anybody? Or Reg Dwight?

More Parnes: Tommy Steele (Tommy Hicks) Marty Wilde (Reg Patterson) Billy Fury (Ron Wycherley) Vince Eager (Roy Taylor) Dickie Pride (Richard Knellar) Lance Fortune (Chris Morris) Duffy Power (Ray Howard), Johnny Gentle (John Askew) Terry Dene (Terence Williams) Nelson Keene (Malcolm Holland) Georgie Fame (Clive Powell) Derek Bollocks (Danny Enthusiastic) (OK, I made the last one up.) .
I spose if you have got an ordinary sounding real name.its less memorable than something that rolls nicely off the tongue. And you do need people to remember you as something other than the bloke wiv a mustache out of the so and so band. Parnes was a clever bloke in his day. Didnt Derek Bollox present New Faces ?
 18. Only just noticed this thread. I spose it depends on the genre, and what your name is to start with. Dunno if anybody has mentioned Larry Parnes yet. he gave pretty much everybody in his stable a flashy 'exciting' name. Billy Fury. Tommy Steel etc. According to Joe Brown Parnes wanted to call him Elmer Twich... He wanted to rename Ray Davies as well I think. A cool stage name, like an image, is only any good if you can carry it off. You could end up looking like that guy in Fools and Horses that only sings song without R,s in them,
 19.
I was talking from UK experience - no idea what system they used or use here in CZ. 48V DC (or 50) is always present on the line. The 100+V AC (around 20Hz) was present only for ringing the bell. Don't know how it is now. I guess there aren't too many subscribers using old bakelite phones with electromagnetic bells so probably not necessary.
Thats how it was yonks ago when I worked on dial up CCTV kit, Old phones still work so I cant see it being any different now, Power, high ring voltage plus speech both ways on two very very long thin wires, Pretty clever cosidering it was designed at least 150 years ago.
 20.
Sell both, buy a decent combo.
Good advice. Messing about setting up at gigs is more trouble than its worth.
 21.
I agree with all that, though devices such as those you cite are unlikely to have IEC mains sockets but will have a UK fused plug directly connected. Also, that mains plug will be directly connected these days because it prevents laypeople from making understandable wiring mistakes when fitting their own plugs, which is fair enough, though it does nothing to prevent the same laypeople from fitting the wrong fuse. The UK ring-main thing is also a good reason for a fused plug, but it still means that most European mains outlets are capable of providing 15A into a connected device via an un-fused mains lead, and 15A represents a hell of a lot of power.
They were only examples, Kettle/Kettle lead, Lawnmower has a mains socket.... Agreed 16A is a lot, but still a reduced risk. a fuse will carry 70% over its rating before it blows, Picture this - the cable to a standard lamp in my house has a loop resistance of 10 ohms, so if the cable is shorted at the lamp end, it will draw 22 Amps, if there was no plug fuse, the ring main fuse wont blow till you draw 51Amps. In the UK, your house just burnt down. In Europe, you blew the trip. btw, you can feel a mild shock from a BT socket (about 50V) a wet finger across the wires is a good check to see if its connected.
 22. Not everything has an internal fuse. When did you last see one in a lawnmower or a vacuum cleaner or a kettle ? The plug fuse will protect against a short if you damage the cable, old type round pin ( 5A or 15A) plugs were fed from the same 5A or 15A fuse in the consumer unit, as they are in europe. In the UK, 13A sockets on the ring main is usually fed from a 30A fuse or trip. Thats a lot of current for a 0.5mm mains flex which would probably glow red hot long before it blows the ring main fuse..
 23. Is there an effects return socket on the Carlsbro ? That would be a better bet I'd have thought.
 24. Why bother... Do you really think anyone takes much notice ? Not unless theres a lot of negatives anyway. If it makes you feelbetter, carry on. But thats the only effect it will have.
