1. Does the X3 have a small twiddle knob on the back for output level like the XT ? You could try this. Also you could run directly into the amp's FX return, bypassing the preamp stage, which might get a more balanced response.
2.
thanks for your input guys, lol i don't mind the back breaking, been use to that with my old peavey rig! and i shall remember grille ^_^ but if anyone does know or find a 8x10 RR for sale let me know please!
Did they make an 8x10 ? Haven't seen one of them.
3.
Yes - we've had to do the same. Our normally excellent drummer just couldn't get his head around it otherwise!
Ours failed at the first 1000+ attempts. This seems to be a common issue. I think its a case of accepting that there's a beat missing at the start. Takes a while for the head to get around it. It works fine now though.
4.
my heart sinks when we arrive at a venue and the guy points upwards (or downwards)!
And this is a man who has an SVT2 and Trace V-Type!?! Hardly the world's lightest heads! Despite all of the above I'm still contemplating adding a second Mesa RR 1x15 to my rig!
5.
What are you running it through dude? How are you finding it so far? Thinking of picking one up myself.
Ran mine through a 4x10HLF. It hold the bottom end much better than a standard 410. Stupid shape though which makes it a pain to transport. The ideal rig for the SVT though is a 1x15 + 4x10 stack... times two and run in stereo!! It really is quite a workhorse. You do need to let it breathe though... running it through my single cab never really grabbed me, even though its a 4ohm. But I took it along to a gig and borrowed another cab and it really gave it some. It really is a case of more = better with the SVT4.
6.
Now Sold at last........ blimey that was a long thread!!!!!
Wahay!!!!! I still cannot understand why this took sooooo long to sell. Congratulations though! And, if you sold it to Nik, then congrats to him too!
7.
The Boogie stuff is very robust but not very portable. You probably have loads of other options out there, if you're willing to do a bit of research.
+1 to that. I recently moved to Boogie cabs to fulfil a childhood ambition. However, at nigh on 100lbs a cab they are shockingly heavy. The 4x10s are particularly eyewatering. The wheels make a difference for sure, but the ballbreaker is the lift in/out of vehicles and god help you if you live in the 3rd floor flat, or even playing venues that aren't setup for easy access. As CK says, there are some other options out there and the weight of a/some decent modern cabs and a fullshell flightcase won't be dissimilar to the Boogie RR's. Don't try flightcasing a Mesa Diesel cab though as thats the worst of both worlds and you'll need a chiropractor on site everynight. They do sound the mutts though. Good luck with the search!
8. Didn't BG Magazine do a 1x12 shootout with Aggie, Berg, Mesa etc just over a year ago??
9.
+1 From the guidelines (which was pointed out by a mod in a thread yesterday): "5. If you believe the price of the item is too cheap/expensive, then please PM the seller as to why. Do not ridicule or undermine the seller by posting how much you think it's worth or how much it can be gotten for elsewhere, the laws of supply and demand will determine if the item sells at that price."
Good point. I probably should have read the guidelines before! £5 says you've tried to work out what the non-bargainous item is!
10. Just curious about this one... Looking on the 'for sale' thread I've noticed something for sale with a very ambitious price attached to it. I know that it can now be bought new for 25% less than the 2nd hand price that is being asked, just by googling the main UK dealers So whats the etiquette/form in these circumstances?? a) Stay out of it and stay quiet. Its not my concern. Mention that they may need to adjust the price if they ever want to sell it / do a public service to a potential buyer by pointing out the price of a new equivalent?
11. Glad the Ampeg is working out so well for you! I had the same experience. I had a Korg AX30B that I used to run all the time in to my Peavey amp. It added the compression and 'eq' that the amp couldn't deliver and made my tone more hi-fi and deeper. Then I sold my Peavey and bought an SVT4 and 410 HLF. Instantly the tone the Ampeg delivered made the Korg superfluous and I started using it less and less. It ended up just being used as a tuner, and then I bought a racktuner and consigned it to under my bed, where it remains until this day. I found the same thing happened when I bought my first decent bass. I used to hide behind a lot of fx as there was little sustain or tone. As soon as I bought my Stingray I needed to let it do its natural thing, so again reduced the fx I was using.
12.
I mean, as far as crap lead singles go, Human has to be one of the worst, but it was sadly the colon-stained peanut on top of mountainous turd of an album. I shudder with embarrassment every time I hear that weak chorus with those dire lyrics. And saying that about the latest effort from one of my favourite bands is pretty painful.
oh oh oh oh oh oh oooah x8
13. Just to say that Jamie is a top guy to deal with and he looks after his gear well. Good luck with the sale, I'm sure this will fly off the shelf!
14.
Credit should also go to the rest of the band who leave the sonic space for him to step up and claim such a big place in the mix. Alex
Well thats where I have an issue with the last two albums. My analysis is as follows... On HotFuss the melody and all of the 'movement' in the songs comes from bass and drums. The drumming is exceptional and every bar is different to the last. In contrast, the guitar parts on HotFuss are pretty simple and actually take on an 'underpinning' role to the bass part, which moves around all over the shop. Take 'Jenny' for example.... guitar part is straight 16ths in 8 bar pieces and the 'lead' is played on bass. Same for Somebody Told Me and All The Things. By contrast the second and third albums revert back to 'normal' arrangements, with the bass high in the mix - but reduced to root note plodding on most occasions. The drum parts are also simplified and, to quote our drummer, "dull". Guitars are layered up and take on their traditional role. So although I still like The Killers, they plain and simple don't write 'em like they used to.
15. Generally you'll be listening to a Geddy Lee signature Fender Jazz through an SVT or Hi-Watt head/cabs. You need to check out Hot Fuss if you like his playing. The last two albums aren't so hot bass-wise (in my opinion).
16. Its a 3u. Please note: Its also one heavy mothercrumble, so make sure you rack it in something with comfy handles. I do miss mine in some ways.... PS> Thats a bargain and a half though!!!!
17.
I've heard good things about them personally, not sure if its worth the hassle of importing it though!
Mmmm - would tend to agree. I think you need to be seeing a much greater saving for it to be truly worthwhile. If they ship in a hardcase (pretty much essential) then you'd be talking around £100 for shipping, then you have import duty which would be circa 20% of total value. So... back of envelope calculation: Bass = $275, which when paid for by credit card with crappy fx rate = £200. Shipping = £100 Customs = 20% of insurance value, which should include shipping cost, = £60 Total = £360 give or take for a factory blemished Schecter. UK New Price = £400, with room to haggle. I think there's better deals to be had on ebay.com
18. Come join us in the lefty market thread at the top of the 'basses for sale' topic. If you were to want to sell it then thats the place to put it. Sounds an AMAZING bass and I'd love to see it. Must weigh a tonne though!?
19. We play it in F# too Take a listen if you like: http://www.coaster-music.co.uk/page13.htm
20.
serial No L03417
In my humble opinion, I reckon that must be newer than a 94/95.... Mine is an August 1996 and is serial 0000116 Very lush, very nice - I wish I needed a second Stingray!!
21. Just sold Jake my cabinet All very smooth and pleasant. Paid by bank transfer to avoid those pesky paypal charges Highly recommended - thanks Jake!
22. Think this question came up before last year. I think that if the sound suits the guy on stage then fair play to him/her. But, my personal opinion is that they are poor amps. To me they sound like the engineer went 'well we make good guitar amps, so lets just put a 15" speaker in it and call it a bass amp'
23. DHL Bunch of useless runts. Failed to collect parcel, even after buying their most expensive overnight service. Price wasn't bad but thats not important when the thing is supposed to be at the other end of the country. Customer 'service' are useless bankers as well. Got passed aroudn the houses until they shut, at 18:00:01. Couldn't care less. Well annoyed.
24. Hi Jay, I've sent this to a guy I know, just in case you haven't found someone yet. Nick
25. That's the deal of the bloody century!!! Shouldn't this be in the 'drunk' thread?!?
