Afternoon, I need to give my Ampeg SVP a bit of a wash and brushup and wanted to check something with you all. Its got a bit noisy - electrical hum at turn on, and our engineer says he can hear noise in the DI when I'm playing. I'm thinking it'll need a bit of a resolder (its a 1998 model if I recall) and I was going to revalve it whilst I'm at it. Watford valves has come up many times - but do they just sell you the valves or can you send it to them to overhaul your amp as well ? Failing that, are there any recommendations for someone who will do the full package in the London/North Surrey area? Thanks Nick

I loved it from day one, and prefer the tone/verstility to the SVT4 Pro head that I had before.

Never really had a problem without them. Well, I tell a lie, when I was using a cheap strap it used to pop off from time to time. But since I switched to Comfort Straps the whole 'double folded eyelets' seems to have held the straps in place well. Touch wood thats 6 years and counting. I tried installing straplocks on my first bass years ago but to be honest I didn't like the concept of fitting a different thread screw into the tophorn. It caused some cracking in the finish and I was glad it was just my P-bass copy and not anything more pricey.

Morning, I'm looking to update my octave pedal. I'm currently running a Boss OC2 pedal, and although it can create some very interesting sounds I'm looking for something a bit more regular. Basically I'm looking for an octave pedal for fretted bass that will track down to at least an open A string. The effect I'm looking for is to create 'big and deep and long', rather than anything more funky. Comments on here relating to the EBS Octabass and Micro POG have intrigued me and I wondered if anyone has run these back to back, or could explain what differences I might find between the two. The Micro POG's octave-up is on interest to me, but does it track as well as the octave down? Should I keep things simple and go for the EBS which (I believe to be) a very solid performer. Used it in pubs/clubs without PA support through to backline behind a 25kw PA. No problem. Sure, if you run it bridged then you are going to fracture the cab, but who puts 1200w through a 600w (1000w peak) cab!!??! The whole purpose of the HLF is that it goes lower in terms of response (28Hz?) from a single 4ohm cab. Therefore you can happily run one side of the SVT4 into a single 4x10 and get a lot of bang. You'll bet 600w at 4ohms there. If you want to run it bridged then you'll need to get some more cabs and link them together. It only runs bridged down to 4ohms so get 2 x 8ohm cabs and you're laughing. The key thing (IMO) regarding the SVT4 is not its phenomenal (rated) power output but its flexibility to drive different cab combinations. Anything from a single 410 to 2 x 115+410. In answer to the other post about the SVT2, you really can't compare the two. Yes, you'd be very silly to drive a single 410 at volume with an SVT2, but its a valve power stage. SVT4 really shouldn't give you problems. The 410HLF was revolutionary when it came out in 1998(?) in terms of its handling and range, but I have no doubt that more modern cabs (partic Schroeder) would be able to handle more juice if you were really concerned about the handling. Hi, Its that time of year where we play a public gig (as opposed to weddings and corporate functions) so if anyone would like to come and hear coasterbass play then you are more than welcome. We get to play the more indulgent tracks that we've learned (its all covers) rather than some more standard wedding tracks so I love it. I've also completely changed my rig (again) since last year - principally due to BassChat induced GAS so that should be something to come look at too. Seriously though, if any BC'ers fancy coming then drop me a line and I'll get you in at a discount rate (£5) rather than the fullprice (£10). Three bands and DJ 'til past our bedtime. Blimey!! Well, its got a three year Thomann warranty so thats pretty handy. Despite fears about the move to Korea I haven't actually heard any horror stories.
