1. Hi, My band recently did a live recording and I volunteered to try and mix together the final product. I'll say at this stage that I have no experience of any DAW or of attempting this type of project previously. I picked Reaper as a DAW as it seemed comprehensive and cheap to get startted with. My problem is that once I've loaded the files into Reaper and try and listen to any of them I get a weird 'underwater' echo-type mishmash sound. Having spent 6hrs+ now trying to adjust every setting in Reaper and in my soundcard setup I'm still stumped so thought I'd turn to you guys for help! My assumption is that this is connected to the samplerate(?) but I don't really know what the problem is - The files I'm handling are 48Khz/24bit .AIFF files. - My Audio Device Settings are set to DirectSound; Output Device = Speakers (soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme); Sample format = 24bit; Samplerate 48000Hz; Buffers 8x1024. - Project Settings - Project Sample Rate = 48000Hz - On my computer I'm running a soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme card. The device management properties are set to 24bit, 48000Hz. What have I missed and what am I doing wrong?? Please help and stop me wasting another 6hrs fiddling around. Here's the killer... one evening last week I managed to get it working and I could listen to the tracks perfectly so I know it CAN work. But the next time I opened Reaper it was all wishywashy underwater echos again. Gutted. Thanks Nick
2. Tim Henman... he only stayed for the first set. A bit like his tennis career Henry Kelly, Maggie Philbin. At the same gig bizarrely. Marcus Miller in a guitar shop once. He asked me to play something for him so he could hear the amp I was trying. [plop]
3. Very easy to deal with and thoroughly pleasant chap! : ) Thanks!!
4.
Nice leftys like the Stingray
Cheers. That's definitely staying. My first 'proper' bass.
5. Thanks very much for all the PM's guys. To be honest the response has really taken me by surprise and I hadn't even started to think about prices. If you can stick with me whilst I do some research and I'll be back in touch very shortly. Is it just the Thumb that everyone wants??
6. And PM replied to.... thanks More closeups available on request.
7.
Any pics especially the Warwick
Will get the camera out tonight.
8. Afternoon, I've been clearing out some pedals and smaller stuff and, having expanded my collection with Wildus' awesome Streamer I'm contemplating selling a guitar. Maybe. If any of these appeal then please get in touch. Fender Jazz Mexican 4-string. £300 ONO. In deep red with white pickguard. Nice action and very hot pickups. I almost prefer it to... Fender Jazz Deluxe (US) 4-string. £750. Montego Black with gold pickguard. Again, lovely action and pretty much perfect condition. Complete with Fender hardcase and all the gubbins. Worth pointing out that the Deluxe Jazz's are smaller body and neck and so are lighter and suit smaller peeps. Warwick Thumb 5 string. £1100. Immaculate and very underused. I have a Pelican case to match it which is almost more amazing than the bass itself. I'm in Maidenhead for anyone that wants to come try one, and plan on attending the SE bass bash in September too. Cheers Nick
9. OC-2 and Muff now gone. Just some funky Auto-wah goodness left available.
10. Sorry, just cash thanks. Boss-OC2 has gone, but a lovely AW-2 Autowah and Big Muff remain. A couple of pics as requested in the PM's
11. Having a bit of a clearout and these pedals just aren't getting much use from me these days. Boss OC2 - A few small chips but in fully functional condition. The label inside reads 'Japan' so I'm guessing thats its origin. The label underneath has long since gone. SOLD posted Boss AW2 - Autowah. Good fun pedal. Again, a couple of chips but works great. This is a Taiwan version. £40 posted Electro Harmonix Big Muff - Made in Russia. Complete with wooden box. SOLD posted Any questions then please drop me a message. Cheers
12.
Still rocking the Boogie bass cabs I see Nick. You taking them to this gig? Cheers, Jon
Hi Jon Yep - still loving them! I think there's a few basschatters who can come and see their old gear in action. Transport is proving a bit of a pain for this gig as there is no parking at all (the venue recommend parking at Heston services down the M4!!) so I may have to travel light and just rely on foldback, which would be a big shame. I took them to Indigo2 at the o2 last year and they sounded awesome mic'd up. We'll see what I can fit in the taxi this year....
13. A while ago I posted on here asking if anyone fancied a support slot at Shepherds Bush Empire. Well, the time of the gig has finally come and next Friday we take to the stage along with Brighton's finest Mean Poppa Lean. Its a good fun party night and it would be great if any basschatters fancied popping in to see us. We're playing Muse/Killers/80's cheese covers, so nothing too obtuse or offensive. Mean Poppa Lean are, well, rather special. You gotta come see them! Tickets are on ticketmaster etc but just rock up on the day and they'll be plenty on the door. Thanks in advance to anyone that can make it! Nick
14. Any other lefties heading to the SE Bass Bash in September? Would be nice to see some other lefty guitars.... otherwise it'll feel like any other music store in the world - all the wrong way round with nothing to play.
15.
Just the amps?.....
But then I'd have nothing to play on everyone else's amps!
16. Count me in. I missed the last bash so will be good to see peeps and generate some new GAS. I hope some other lefties can make it otherwise I'll have no toys to try out Ummm, what shall I bring? Eden Navigator preamp and SVP-Pro, Mesa 1x15 RR, Warwick $$ Streamer (Lefty), Stingray (Lefty)
17. What size are you looking for? I've worked both as band and promoter with (in order of capacity): Bush Hall ULU Islington Academy o2 Indigo Shepherds Bush Empire All are great venues with very supportive staff and crew (which is a must IMO for organising one-off gigs like this) but with rapidly escalating hire costs. I'd happily talk you through the capacities/prices/pro's and con's if you want to PM me. I also have good connections to the Barfly world which includes Borderline, Camden Barfly, Highbury Garage, Kentish Town Forum. They are smaller capacity than many of the above which might suit (?). Nick
18. +1 for the Korgs. Amps, Cabs, FX and guitars have all come and gone but the Korg is still there in my rack and i wouldn't be without it. Possibly the safest 'investment' you can make in the land of GAS.
19. Love Muse and Chris' bassparts always work well. In terms of playing them myself its not the speed/notes he plays but the sheer stamina of the guy that amazes me!!
20. Wow - just saw this on the tin'ternet too. Very sad news. Dirt came out just as I picked up the bass, and then I was blown away when I discovered Facelift. Still two of my favourite albums.
21. And if you take digital photos then print them out or back them up so that when they steal your laptop/camera as well you still have your piccies
22. Sold pending the usual as of this morning. Thanks for your interest though
