Prices have been pushing up since Fender Japan disappeared, but you're looking around the £500 - £600 mark depending on condition. Some of the export models have basswood bodies which go for less also.

If anything the sim will roll off the really deep lows and give your sub an easier time.

There was no link in the email - just a request to reply to the @fender.com email address. I see zero cause for concern unless someone managed to hack that guy's fender.com email address and was asking you to click on dodgy links or send money transfers for P&P!

I've used a VT Bass for this in the past, but I prefer the way the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe colours the sound as an amp sim. I've yet to try the Aguilar Tone Hammer for this application, but it also has a high-end roll-off with the AGS engaged.

I found the Small Stone a bit too dark and switched to the standard Phase 90. Both are great options though, no low end loss with either!

Not sure of the exact specs of out but from another of his videos I saw it has an Aguilar OPB-1 pre.

If you have the wiring loom from the CV, can't you just transplant that into the new bass without having to solder anything? Depends if there is a channel routed for the pickup wires, some Precisions just have a hole drilled.

From your description it sound like you definitely want the Vintage Deluxe. The B7K can be made to sound warm, but it's definitely more at home as a bright / scooped / cutting kinda sound, whereas the Vintage is just vintage warm loveliness.

[/quote] Which Q-Tron did you try? The new ones aren't great, but the old big box one and the seemingly-mistitled-because-it's-massive old Mini Q-Tron are a different kettle of fish. I prefer my Mini Q-Tron to my TruTron 3X (which is widely regarded to be a pretty much bang on clone of the original Mutron 3 with extra features). The old Q-Trons were designed by Mike Beigel of Mutron too!

And unlike most 2-ohm amps that only put out their maximum power at 2 ohms, this one might put out the same max power at 4 ohms due to the Orange-Terror-Bass-style impedance switch on the back!

I would give the MXR M82 a go for this. Not dead on but can sound pretty vowel like, kinda like Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer! Just tried it for myself and it good enough to fool most of the audience!

My 415 had a satin finish and my 1025X has either a very thin finish or no finish at all, hard to tell!
