1.
Blimey, my ears are fuzzy. Some good ideas out there, thanks. Been doing the internet trawl and a couple of those mentioned above 'do it' for me. I did also stumble across DannyBuoy's review of the Behringer SF300, for £20 that caught my eye as a cheapy! Is it actually any good in a band?
Never actually used one, just posted a video I found on YouTube. But after lots of people rushed out and bought one, a few reported it had too much low end loss. There is a simple mids knob modification you can make to the EHX Bass Big Muff if you are handy with a soldering iron? It also needs a mod to tame the volume boost when using it set to dry mode. But it's a great cheap pedal with a few tweaks! http://www.talkbass.com/threads/bass-big-muff-mids-control-mod.1070352/
2. D'oh, meant to send that as a PM!
3. Cool, I'll take it then, let me know how to pay you. I'll dig those knobs out tomorrow as well and let you know what condition they're in!
4. The cheap Subs are great basses - my Ray4 is nice and light, great neck and smooth fretwork, very resonant and sounds great too. Only pain point is the preamp is rather hot which doesn't play well with some amps and most distortion pedals. It's not too difficult to mod though, and there is a thread somewhere on Talkbass posted by a company rep with instructions on how to do it.
5. Look out for a used Team Awesome Fuzz Machine, they pop up from time to time. My favourite fuzz of all time, and works really well with the Yamaha BB too.
6. If it's an always on tone shaper pedal though rather than an overdrive you will stomp on and off mid song, and you have a decent amp EQ, the standard one will do just fine. I went for the Deluxe as my Orange Terror Bass / Ampeg SVT210AV setup is pretty dark sounding as it is, the EQ is crap on the amp and I needed a bit more brightness from the pedal.
7.
Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian OR a Blackout Effectors Musket OR A Black Arts TOneWorks Pharaoh Supreme
I've had all three and for what it's worth, I reckon the TFR wipes the floor with the other two.
8. I would end up with the favourites from what I already have - Darkglass B7K & Vintage Deluxe Bearfoot Blueberry Mutron 3X Polytune Mini Noir That's not even all the ones I wanted to list - damn I didn't realise how much all my pedals were worth! If all those were sourced used and there was enough left over, a Team Awesome Fuzz Machine.
9. I bought a B3K when I had a Markbass rig - hated it and returned it same day. Now I have an Orange Terror into sealed tweeterless cabs, the B7K sounds great!
10. Oh go on then - I've been meaning to compare this to my B9! PM incoming...
11. All I can say is, I think there's a very good reason why it's so rare!
12. Depends, basses off even the same production line can vary by quite a bit. My old BB415 was really light and my BB1025X relatively heavy.
13. £239 / £269 with free delivery! http://www.gak.co.uk/en/yamaha-bb424-standard-bb-black/36228 http://www.gak.co.uk/en/yamaha-yamaha-bb425-standard-bb-(black/48077
14. If by any chance these get sold and anyone else is looking, I have two not being used!
15. So, some clever sods have miniaturised a charge pump / voltage regulator circuit that can clamp around a regular alkaline battery to keep its charge at a consistent 1.5v until it has depleted. Most batteries are considered dress when their charge drops to 1.2v, at which point 80% of the energy is still inside. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2928997/batteriser-is-a-250-gadget-that-extends-disposable-battery-life-by-800-percent.html I find it amazing that nobody had thought of this before - that's hindsight for you. I wonder if this circuitry will be built directly into batteries and/or devices in future. Certainly worth of note if your rely on batteries in pedals or active basses!
16. Nice! Where did you get it, anymore available?
17.
so would you say it would give a nice tubey/motown type of drive, the same way the solid gold beta drive does? I quite fancy one of these myself
I've not played one in person, but the demos suggest to me that Motown style is not it's forte. Best pedals for that (IMHO) are either a v1 Catalinbread SFT (older one with the white knobs) or a Bearfoot Blueberry. Both more expensive than the EHX though, granted!
18. My B9 tracks below A no problem - but for some reason it can't handle the actual open A!
19. There's an Epiphone Classic Pro Thunderbird out now though Blue, which has neck through construction and Gibson USA pickups, there's not much between that model and the Gibson. Unfortunately they don't have a Flying V equivalent though!
20. Ignore the preamp label, it's basically a bass friendly tubescreamer overdrive pedal!
21. I've not tried it with an aggressive active bass yet, so not entirely sure! In my hands the pedal sounds totally different - it is a very dark/warm/tubey sound, much like the Blueberry. I doubt I will be keeping both as they are so similar, after this weekend you might even see this in the classifieds!
22.
if that 10% is weight then worth it.
Good luck, my BB1025X is much heavier than my old BB415! I think it is purely luck of the draw, assuming they both use the same body wood it varies from tree to tree!
23. Wow, ordered from Tonefactor on Saturday night and it's here already! Just did a quick A/B with the Bearfoot Blueberry. They sound VERY close indeed, it's definitely a Honey Bee / Blueberry derivative rather than a screamer-type drive. I think the Blueberry just about edges it though. But only just!
24. I was just going to say - makes me want to get a TFR again! Studio monitors are rumbling!
