  1. Thanks - could be the perfect partner for the F2B....I'd given up looking...
  2. Show us a photo...very tempted. Fan? Noise?
  3. Must resist....
  4. Wouldn't think so....direct current can kill speakers, but you'd hear all about it...check plugs and cables first? Get waggling!
  5. I've still got some 1961 LS3/1 speakers here at BassBod towers....these are the early outside broadcast big grey boxes, with 15" paper cone speakers in. I understand they were used all the way through to the 1980's. The bass response is very generous and seems to come from nowhere (although they don't do loud)....nothing like the Spendors/Rogers and other bookshelf sized BBC designs I've heard. If you were listening to these as reference speakers I could see how the bass would easily be left low in the overall mix. Add some low end bleed form a loud live band and it could be a problem.
  6. I tried this bass briefly after a gig last year - and it persuaded me to invest in an old German bass, something I'd been avoiding for years. Its that good. Took about three notes.

Any of the EA 2x10 cabs would be a very good match to requirements, but they are heavy and in the boutique category. Sound wonderful..as long as you really like your bass sound naked, with little seasoning. I would dare to suggest the Ashdown Retrogilde 800 with an EA 2x10 would be quite the thing.....
  8. Depends on fit and what sort of conditions it will be travelling. Warwick rack bags are crap..just avoid. I've got a Gator 2U one which is pretty good, but its only done car travel/light use. SKB plastic rack cases always seem very pricey and aren't that durable, but could do the job fine if you are always shifting it, and its not bounced around or chucked too much. The one you linked to looks ok to me, but don't expect it to be very tough.
  9. Yes, of course...
  10. SWR Baby Blue or Electric Blue (head). Lovely stuff. Phil Jones CUB..but the one I owned had a bit of electrical fizz in the background (probably fixed a long time ago...but be aware).
  11. That should be fun...always enjoyed his fretless playing. I guess he plays the W'Wick acoustic these days.
  12. I've ended up (long story) with a TKS S112 - very similar to the G2 Midget, but with rear porting (!) and a less aggressive voicing in the mid range. Early days...but I'm very happy so far.
  13. I recently sold my G2 Midget, so would be very interested to hear what people think of the new version. I really like the G2 but found its middle emphasis hard to deal with (SWR amps don't help) esp. with double bass.
  14. One more Bump...looks like I'll keep it...
  15. Think I listed this way too cheap, will probably just enjoy playing it (Gallery has a fiver going for £1500) Last Bump...
  16. If you need small and great sound the Crazy 8 from Tricky Audio is a very good option, although it won't do very loud.
  17. I've got an old Levy's canvas double bag - not much bigger than the single version and works fine. But if both basses are a bit heavy it can be a bit much on the shoulders, so I just carry it in one hand. The only thing I'd add to previous comments is the extra weight makes it more important to buy a good quality version - straps and stiching all get a bit more strain, and the padding needs to be decent with more weight in the bag.
  18. Bump - another possible trade, early Warwick Streamer....
  19. Possibly - very few DI's have two inputs, yet alone any means of adjusting levels. It might be simpler for you to run two signals out of two DI's and balance them up elsewhere. Also, your Engineer may be happier with two separate feeds...or he might be a grumpy sod who thinks you're just making his life more complicated...
  20. There are some new cheaper Radials as well as the JDI - the passive Stage Bug looks like a good cost effective one and is pretty compact. The simple passive Pro DI is great ( I recently saw a lot of them at a very high end recording studio). Edit - it may be easier to use two small passive boxes, and send two lines, rather than trying to get two inputs to balance front of house.
  21. Another method is take the screw out...put a little superglue on, then let it dry for an hour before replacing it. Often this is enough to stop it undoing over time..but without glueing it in place.
  22. That made my brain hurt. I've never had noise issues with any Sansamp stuff, and find it very reliable and musical (as long as you don't use extreme eq..and have the magic blend knob). The VT Deluxe has no Blend? Look at the Fender amp version as well. One thing that does it all for me - Alembic F2B into a good passive DI. Ok, that's two things really...but look out for one. And an SWR Interstellar Overdrive thing. That would make you happy.
  23. I used Innovation Rockabillys for ages on my Clifton - helped make a softer acoustic type sound. I'm using Spiros now, so it plays more like my acoustic bass...but the sound is more "string" and less bass. One day I'll put Evah P's on, as I think they are the best compromise string I've found.
  24. The Crazy 8 is a great little cab, that provides real low end, not just lots of mid to make it seem loud. Its an American GreenBoy design, but Tricky Audio make it here in the UK. I had one without the tweeter and didn't miss it.
