1. When it was mine, I played the first hour but included some of my personal fave songs (which we don't usually play) Then a bassist pal of mine took over and (as I am also the singer) individual friends (non musicians) joined the band and sang one each. Was all planned so everyone knew what they were singing, and I printed lyrics for them. Was absolutely ace, at the end was a bit of a free for all and I ended up singing the last couple as I was too razzled to play too. Despite their initial nerves, the guest singers wanted to do more once they'd had their turn. Great night.
2. I tried the Blackstar ID core Beam. Took it back as it was way too quiet and kinda tinny sounding to use in anything but a silent room. Had hoped to be able to use with band on acoustics and rehearse but was too quiet. Some nice features and looks cool though. Shame, I really wanted it.
3. I think he should pay. He agreed to the rehearsal slot. We don't know why he can't make it but he has done the right thing and offered to pay. I'd take him up on the offer. Like some of the posters, I've had experience of last minute cancellations due to all sorts of cataclysmic reasons and, unless people are going to pay, there's nothing stopping them from just deciding not to do it. I suspected that in many cases it was more likely that they couldn't be bothered, didn't want to pay, got a better offer OR had not learned their parts. Genuinely not suggesting that's the case with your guy of course. Take the money and run baby
4. I took advantage of Daves generosity and accepted his offer of some free Schaller strap buttons. Posted gratis the same day. A gent and a great Basschatter. Thanks again. Andy
5.
That looks like natural wear....
By a chainmail wearing bassist perhaps?
6. I would love them please Rumple. I will PM ya. Thank you old chap. Andy
7. I know it's a stupid idea but I quite like the "stealth" look on a guitar. The comments on this tired made me laugh though. What a div ha ha
8. Antics for me too. I always thought that Carlos D looked great too. I have seen them a few times and they are excellent live. Defoe worth a look if you're unfamiliar with them
9. The step button position is a pain. Its on the back of the neck heel and therefore the guitar leans forward and neck dives too. Would have preferred it on the upper body horn personally Andy
10. I watched it yesterday. Had been really looking forward to it and was a bit disappointed. It seemed like the singers (Almond and Mvula especially) struggled with the timing and phrasing. So did I in Life on Mars. Lady grinning soul was great as was Warzawa. Appeared as if the monitoring was a bit rubbish as timings seemed to ebb and flow with singers appearing to struggle. Liked the idea though and agree Bowie would likely have loved it based on his past collaborations. Also thought Neil Hannon did a good job.
11. Haha. Good luck with the build buddy.
12. Here's the original colour under the pickguard along with an original owners name and address scratched on it in 1974 Amazing colour change. Nice
13. Was made in '73. I only got it this year so dunno. Nice though
14. Here's mine for reference if that's any help. Was a deep red wine colour, now browner than brown (except under the pics guard Subscribed. Andy
15.
Here tis. You forgot to mention some blokes on the drums and guitar! Phil Collins and Pete Townsend. Some lovely footage of MK around the 2m05s mark.
Ah yeah - those two. I reckon if they keep practicing they'll do OK ha ha
16. Only yesterday saw the Midge Ure No Regrets performance with Mick on bass for the first time. The sound was amazing. Remember seeing him at Tiffany's in Leeds with Japan back in the day, he was completely mesmerising as he appeared to move back and forth as if on casters head wobbling furiously. Pioneer.
17. To echo many of the comments above - I agree the 8 x 10 is an amazing cab. Sounds great BUT there are lots of downsides depending on your circumstances: It's huge - takes up lots of room to store and play with, depends on your typical stage size - may be too big for stage and your car Its heavy - difficult to move on your own on anything but flat ground, stairs are more than a challenge without another pair of hands If none of those are issues for you, i'd go for it. Again, bargains are there to be had Good luck (I went from Ampeg 8 x 10 to Orange 2x12 - now that's almost polar opposites)
18. Nick Lowe quickly learned not to criticise Billy's guitar skills....
19.
Greetings also from Nottingham! One thing I’ve always found with these types of strap-locks (assuming that it’s the “Schaller” type that most Fenders come with these days) is that the hole in the strap needs to be wide enough to accommodate the enlarged threaded part of the strap lock. If it is just standard size, the strap creates too much friction and loosens the nut(s). This is why companies who make more expensive straps (like Heistercamp for example), give you the option of larger holes for use with this type of lock. A good hardware store (or even better, a “proper” saddlery) will usually have a large hole-punch to do this job and charge you pennies for doing it. I’ve also done it myself using an offcut of appropriately-sized copper pipe and hammered it through the leather onto a chopping board. I’ve also done it with a cordless drill but that tends to fray it a little. If your strap is only a very cheap one, the chances are that the ends of the strap won’t be proper leather and so won’t take the widening so you might need to replace your strap.
Agree - i bough a set of punches from EBay - cheap. I enlarge the holes in my straps before fitting the washer and nuts and they tighten properly - no more coming undone
20. I've just had another one. Perfect. They're quite close to where I live so I prefer to go in and see them. You defo get a better measurement PLUS, not only can you choose your options in terms of colours, thickness, pockets, straps, additional protection in the front for a cab/amp BUT you get to meet the boys. They are great fun and love to talk. As good as it gets. Now Silverstone!!!!!!!.......that's a different story ha ha
21. Bought some strings from Thunderbird. Easy, peasy. Good comms and swift delivery. Buy with confidence. Andy
