  1. To be fair to the lad. I don't think he was very old based on his texts. We get asked lots by pubs and clubs for their good old charity events. Means the bands play for free, the charity gets a donation (often unclear how much) the pub gets packed. The landlords earn a fortune. They honestly think they're doing us a favour by giving us exposure.
  2. Earlier today, I received a text from an unknown number. He said he'd seen us play recently and was asking if we could play at a forthcoming event. I asked for details of dates and fee and received this: "We didn't initially plan a fee as it is a charity event. The initial idea was that despite no fee involved it would be a great chance for your band to expand it's audience to people unaware of the band and increase purchases of tour tickets in future. This will lead to a rise in capital through more purchases and a higher profit margin. Just an idea to throw out there. If you do not wish to attend we were wondering if you could help market the event to get more people through the door and raise more money towards the charity" I politely declined.
  3. Yeah I heard that too. Good news. There was a lot of FB sharing too hopefully helped to make it toxic. A grim reminder to keep your eye on your gear at all times.
  4. I think he is a funny guy. Loved Oasis and like NGHFBs. Their performance on T in the park was great. Each to his own I guess. Didn't catch the Radio 4 show but am interested to hear what his choices were? assume The Smiths were included?
  5. Hi Ghost Bass. Have sorted it. Was the thread on the stem which had worn out. Ended up getting a new bit engineered. £80 though but will outlive me. Thx for trying to help buddy. Andy
  6. I have a problem with my beloved Mic Stand. I unscrew the base after each use and found that when I last used it - after coupling the two parts (cast iron base and stand), the thread was just spinning. Hardly catching at all. I had to pack with tape to get it to stay still. It had never, ever even been loose before then. It makes me wonder whether it may have had some kind of collar to make the grip tight which has dropped off. Anyone got one and can check for me? If not, I am stuck. I guess i'd need to get a threaded insert made and graft on to the bottom of the stem? God knows where and how.....any thoughts? Have been in touch with Atlas - not them. There is a company selling em new in the US have emailed them too. Help...Thx Andy
  7. I love em. Last Saturday we played an out door afternoon gig in the glorious sunshine then at night in a hot, sweaty and tiny pub. Anything other than shorts would he been hideous. Well........possibly Dick Venom's action slacks but that would have lead to multiple bouts of projectile vomiting from the audience so best avoided for my band I think.....
  8. Hi - am planning to swap the control plate on my Jazz. Have removed 2 of the control knobs BUT having loosened the S1 grub screw, can't see how to remove the whole knob. The outer part spins freely but the switch its self is still attached. Anyone know? Thx (probably being stupid but can't work it out) Andy
  9. Never mind Where's Wally - Where's Wayne? has he abandoned us?
  10. After much deliberating and speaking to other users, I have bought the Shure SE535s. Hoping the triple driver will manage the bass better then I can add the rest in. The shop reckoned you can get moulds made too at about £100 so remains an option. Saturday night will be the acid test
  11. Thx gents. I can see an across the board support for moulded sets but I'm nervous about relying on just the IEMs for all I can hear. This is mainly because I am also the singer and need that audience and band member rapport. Have so far only gigged 3 times with the system and only have vox in. The Shures I'm using let me hear the rest of the band (although a bit muffled) hence considering the 535s. I guess the challenge is, I could get the moulds, put the whole lot in and mic the audience then hope I can get on with it OR spend £300 on the Shures which should give a better experience than the ones I'm using now. Decisions, decisions.....Great thread though
  12. Anyone used the Shure SE535s? Having just bought an in ear system, I have borrowed some 215s they're great but the bass distorts. Wondering if the 535 triple drivers will improve that?
  13. So far had vocs only in. There is enough of the instruments audible to let me do just that. Tried bass in tonight. Was really distorted and I took it back out. Batteries lasted about 4 hours then failed. I now know how long to expect. To be honest, I'm really happy with the vocals in. Need to do some more playing to try different mixes but still thinking about whether to invest in proper fitted earphones which will cut out the back line stuff and will mean I need them in my ears.
  14. Opted for the T Bone IEM 200 system from Thomann. Arrived in just 2 days. So far so good - mounted in my rack. Read the manual - looks pretty straightforward. Tonight is the night though - I will see how it goes. Fingers crossed
  15. Glenn was the singer in Heaven 17. Can defo sing. Doesn't try and sound like Bowie which could have been hideous.
  16. I saw em last year in Sheffield. Really good. Especially the non MWSTW set. All old classic Bowie. You're in for a treat. Still may go to the leeds gig. Marc Almond joining em apparently
  17. I feel your pain brother. The drummer insists on setting up in the middle of whatever space we have. The guitarist/keys then gets in on the left. The other guitar is on the right. I go between drums n guitar/keys. Have to wait while drummers stands are all in then squeeze in. Am constantly trying to reduce my gear so in ears mean no monitor and second mic stand for it. Watch the "other musical items for sale" forum. They'll doubtless be on there soon ha ha
  18. I always struggle for space at gigs. I am last to get my gear in every time as drummer, keys, 2 guitarists set up. I then get the bit of space left. I hate cables around my feet so use a wireless system but have a Mackie personal monitor. This was knocked over twice recently at a gig by a drunken bint and is now kaput. Have therefore decided to go in ear. Have read the content here and, having discussed with other users, opted for a T Bone system. Our PA has a spare monitor output I can use so can have my own mix. As long as I can get on with them, I plan to get some Minerva ear phones but will try with the stock ones to begin with. My only concern is that I hear the audience sufficiently as I am the front man too so need to engage. I may end up micing the audience but will see how things go. Excited. Will letya know. Andy
  19. Steve was a lovely guy. I miss the old website. Always good to see the occasional fall out between posters/bands/Steve too ha ha ha RIP Steve
  20. Any band attempting Livin on s prayer. Cue "Whoa we're half way there......" Holds mic to audience. Even freakin Bon Jovi can't hit that note. Please guys, please
  21. The Killers was nicked from the New Order Crystal video
  22. I have been after a neck for a Musicmaster for bloomin ages. Bid on a few, always in the US, but so far not won. Finally one comes up, price ok, had a couple of exchanges with the seller and looks good so bid. 2 days to go, suddenly disappears - no longer available. Pisses me off. Either auction or don't. What is the point? I thought this was the one man, thought it was the one.....
