1. Another vote for an independent.........I had Marshall service an amp a short while back........nuff said, really.
2. Front panel is 'JTM 45' - you have to zoom the pics.
3. DON'T POWER IT UP !!!!!!! Give it to a proper tech......it needs tlc.......... I'd contact Steve Rowse in Axminster, he's a Marshall approved fixer and knows what he's doing...pm me for contact........
4. Aah - the back pic wasn't around when I replied - it's early, no doubt..... The very first Marshall® amp, made back in 1962, was the JTM45. It was an instant hit and launched a whole new generation of groundbreaking guitar players and sounds. Since then, connoisseurs of tone have sought out rare original JTM45s from the ’60s. 5. Yup it's a Marshall - looks like an early JTM45 - need care here, they did a re-issue. If it's original, it's worth loads of pennies.............
6. I wasn't looking for sympathy - I bought it, I'm a big boy and I dealt with it how I thought best - bearing in mind that I wasn't going to demand a refund, or return the thing to the tender care of whoever had serviced it before the sale & take the chance of 'damage in transit'. I have no issues with anyone who runs a business and aims for a profit (I do this every day). Caveat Emptor is, I believe, appropriate here - next time (?) I'll drive & look at something 'in the flesh'....my fault.....
7. I didn't bother, just sighed and got the thing (properly) sorted...... when I buy something as clean & serviced, I've got used to 'not being the whole story' and I have better things to do.... it's my blood pressure, after all. I think the t&cs at the bottom of their current advertising (which have had a seismic workover since I dealt with them) probably say it all...............
8. (no, I didn't bother shouting at them, I've been in 'no win' situations before)
9. After an exchange of pms, I'll offer this.......I bought an amp off this firm a year or so ago. It was described as serviced (as are all their stock)....it was somewhat overpriced, but it was a model that I really wanted, so I bit the bullet (gas)......... It arrived, filthy, inside and out...I mean like it had been stored by the side of the.M6 for a few years I put it straight to my tech (details available, pm me), who did recap work, commented that the output valves looked 'recent', and cleaned the thing properly before a pat test. So I paid about 50% more for a serviced amp, which was filthy and had not been properly 'benched' and then had to be professionally sorted........... This is not a rant...merely a statement of fact. (no, I didn't bother shouting at them, I've been in 'no win' situations before)
10. I think the 'problem' seems to lie in the 'serviced' part of their advertising (on every ad) - customers seem to hope that the object has actually been on a bench - lately..........from the Les Paul forum it would look unlikely..........if I buy off fleabay I tend to expect the object to be somewhat less than described - I also don't expect to pay top dollar for anything else......... http://www.vintageamps.com/plexiboard/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=112283 might shed a little more light.......?
11. What it says really, you make your own call........... http://www.lespaulforum.com/forum/showthread.php?202917-Do-not-buy-gear-from-The-Music-Locker-in-the-UK
12. Thanks Downdown - I should have made that clear(er) - my bad.
13. With written stuff it used to be that you sent it to yourself by registered post and DIDN'T OPEN IT unless it was needed by a court/solicitor. I'm musing that you could probably send a cd registered in the same way?
14. Solicitor, with a 'cease & desist' notice - won't cost much, but gives you solid ammunition if you need to get they guy sanctioned.
15. .........^ ^ ......... I think you have to be SERIOUSLY bad before the crowd starts noticing (!)
16. And if you get stuck across that rip in the cloth - it's your round...........
17. There is a school of thought that suggests that men 'of a certain age' who continually reference sex in 'conversations' ....ain't getting it.......
18. .............be reasonable, do it my way............
19. I've got a couple of 'specials' built for me by Matamp (both rated in the 300watt area) - they are awesome..........
20. ............They're essentially Orange amps aren't they? ............ Don't let anyone near Meltham hear you say that (!) Matamp are pure rock 'n' roll (and their wattage is what they say it is).
21. My mum assembled airplanes (but it was in 1940) - I've never worked for the Beeb I agree with Skank.......... (sigh)
22. Class D ? Look at Crown Drivecore XLS - I've got one, and I can carry it in one hand- loads of grunt and looks to be (fairly) indestructible...... (said he, a confirmed fanboi of Matamp valves.........)
23. I've forgotten the last time that I bought at the end of an Ebay auction........... most sellers are quite sensible & happy to negotiate.
