1. Worth bearing in mind - if something electrical goes phut soon after purchase, under the Sale of Goods act you are entitled to a full refund or a replacement item - which, at your option can be an 'upgrade' at no extra cost if the retailer is unable to get you the same model in a reasonable timespan - happened to me with a washing machine once - bought a 'second' which went wrong - got a brand new one (£200 dearer) for no more money - result...........if you accept an offer of a repair you have little in the way of rights left........
2. Thanks Tim - the shock might have been minimal (?) but the surprise was all it took...........
3. Back in the day (don't snore), I went through a number of gigs where some idiot thought it fun to pull the loudspeaker jacks out of my valve amp - I removed the casings on said plugs and watched as someone copped the full output voltage of my 240watt Orange up their right arm - seemed to do the trick.......
4. Having looked at 'the' website, I am somewhat underwhelmed by the lack of recent 'tests'. A cynic (moi ?) might conclude that they are only featuring their own stock (surely not....) I've used valve amps (some quite loud) on and off since the late sixties - I've never felt the need to hack about (polite, that) with my valves...but, what do I know ??
5. Back in the day, Bob was widely regarded as 'white man reggae' Beatles were the alternative to the Stones. end of......
6. ...bought a 100watt Marshall plexi for 100 quid at a second-hand shop in Fulham (!) - used it for a couple of years and went over to Orange Matamps......chipboard cabs screwed & glued (Resin W) - speakers from Celestion at Thames Ditton, 3 cell horns (with socks stuffed in two of the cells) from Vitavox (Queensbury).....and a glorious noise it all made .............
7. Back in the stone age, I had a portable dimmer pack hanging on the wall of a venue.....I found out very quickly that if I touched it whilst holding my microphone I got quite a kick - so I didn't, for the next five years......sorted.
8. I owned a couple of Celestion SR bass bins in the eighties - I think these were supposed to be a type of isobaric? - I know they were this side of useless.
9. Both of the above posts look right - it needs a direct connection (at low level) to the tweeter unit - this will only tell you if the beast is in general working order aside from the crossover - after that, you really do need a tech, imo.
10. IF it were mine, I'd connect the 8ohm brass unit (which is your tweeter, btw) to known working amp at almost nil volume....you need to get to where the problem lies (I'm not convinced it's with the 'new' amp, btw, but you might need a co-operative amp tech any second now).
11. You need to connect one side of the battery and then put the other side in contact by 'tapping' it - the cone should move. Just connecting both sides of the battery static will not prove a lot, imo.

13. Drifting away from my reggae, I've got Credence Clearwater on the 'small' Ormat system in the room next door - just the stuff for an early summer evening in the West Country !
14. If you are anywhere in South/East Devon, Steve Rowse is now set up & running in Axminster. He's been mentioned before on here, but I thought a reminder would do no harm - just done a smashing job on checking/modding my Ormat pile, would totally recommend (and he's a bloody nice bloke). Website - Steves Amps - take a look...........
15. Not quite the same I know, but I'm currently playing around with a couple of Mathias 300watt valves (KT120) into two BF Dubsters, withe the input from my deck mixer split by an active crossover, the high mid/top going to another 300 Matamp into a couple of Mackie C200 - it's very good.
16. Aah - I think you may find that breakers are capable of handling momentary power surge (hence my query)..........
17. I've got a Crown XLS2000 - two channels in mono mode with an internal electronic crossover - bass from left, mid/top from right - it's classD, so stupidly light...good bit of kit. You would need to preamp for your tones, of course.
18. I have Ormats - they terrify me and demolish small buildings at twelve feet. I also have a Crown 2k which is very loud,,,and house-trained. .
19. JPJ - that worries me - what mains fuse is in the amp - is it a slo-blow? (I would have expected the amp fuse to easily pop first)
20. Decimalisation was an excuse for an orgy of rounding up & price increases........ just sayin......
21. Most (all?) of my amps/kit seemed to have 3a internal fuses - I've always used 5 as a catch-all (works for me)
22. It's the 'often' that's got me worried...........
23. I, being mega-technical, tend to make sure that any gig leads have a 5amp fuse - its worked for fifty years, so I'm not stopping now.
24. Advice on the Skye gig - cost it properly & in full and request payment (in full) in advance.....failing to actually cost gigs in real-world money is why a lot of bands (and businesses) fail.
